Chapter 3: Reminded of Someone by an Object
Chutian Restaurant, a fairly large eatery within Haining University, had been chosen as the venue for the freshman welcome party for Li Chen’s class. It was dinner time, and the restaurant was bustling with people coming and going.
“Hey! Li Chen! Are you even listening to me?” Xu Yao pestered Li Chen, who was in front of her, her pretty face frosting over.
Throughout the walk from the rooftop, Xu Yao had been fixated on one issue: the cracking noises that had emanated from Li Chen on the rooftop. Clearly, Li Chen had had no intention of clarifying the matter for her. His dismissive attitude had left her seething with frustration.
Li Chen glanced at Xu Yao, shook his head subtly, and without a word, ascended the steps leading to the restaurant’s entrance.
“Hey!” Stamping her foot in irritation, Xu Yao clenched her fist in the air behind Li Chen.
Inside the restaurant’s Guanlan Hall, the atmosphere was lively. Nearly everyone’s eyes were focused on the stage at the front of the banquet hall. A handsome young man named Lin Shaofeng, holding a guitar, stood center stage. He was not just a first-year student but also the champion of last year’s popular talent show “Voice of China.”
Amidst a crescendo of adoring screams from the audience, Lin Shaofeng felt a surge of pride. Just as he was about to speak into the microphone, a harsh creaking noise interrupted him.
All eyes turned toward the side door of the hall, which had just been forcibly pushed open. Without a doubt, the newcomers were Li Chen and Xu Yao. Their entrance instantly drew the attention of everyone in the hall.
“Am I dreaming? What am I seeing?”
“Am I blind, or is the campus beauty blind?”
“If I’d known that Xu Yao had such a taste for the ‘common man,’ I would’ve confessed to her at lunch!”
A murmur of speculation rose from the crowd. Although it was only the first day of university, Xu Yao had already garnered a reputation. Many recognized her immediately as the campus beauty. Realizing the atmosphere was amiss, Xu Yao didn’t even bother with Li Chen. She hurriedly lowered her head, found an empty seat at a nearby table, and sat down.
Li Chen, unfazed, took a cursory look around and followed suit. Without giving it much thought, he sat down right next to Xu Yao, as if he were completely unaware of the stir they had caused.

Meanwhile, Lin Shaofeng’s face had turned extremely unpleasant. His words had been interrupted midway, akin to marching forward and suddenly hitting a wall—utterly frustrating. What infuriated him even more was that the interrupters were none other than Xu Yao, the girl he had sworn to win over that day, and her so-called boyfriend.
As he saw the two sitting side by side, Lin Shaofeng had been filled with a smoldering rage. He had ground his teeth in silent fury. Who was he? The rising “Little God of Songs,” a future superstar! And who was this Li Chen in comparison?
Moreover, from childhood to now, there had never been anything he desired and hadn’t gotten.
“Shaofeng, start already! Everyone is waiting!” The announcer standing at the edge of the stage had reminded Lin Shaofeng, who had momentarily spaced out.
The reminder had sparked an idea in Lin Shaofeng’s mind. Yes, why not seize this opportunity to embarrass that boy in front of everyone? It would perfectly demonstrate to Xu Yao how unfit her little boyfriend was and how excellent he, Lin Shaofeng, was.
Embracing this thought, Lin Shaofeng’s face had instantly brightened into a charming smile. “My fellow students, singing alone isn’t that interesting. Those who know me should be aware that I’m a competitive singer. I perform best when I’m in a contest with someone else,” he had paused before continuing, “So, I would like to take this opportunity to invite one of you to join me on stage for a little friendly competition.”
A murmur had gone through the hall. Anyone with even a slight interest in the entertainment industry knew that Lin Shaofeng had recently become the disciple of the evergreen singing legend, Liu Tianwang. Competing against him in singing would be like asking for humiliation. Some quick-thinking individuals had already turned their gaze towards Li Chen, intuiting that Lin Shaofeng’s challenge was likely aimed at teaching this lucky lad, who had captured the school beauty, a lesson.
Sure enough, after speaking, Lin Shaofeng’s eyes had fallen on Li Chen. However, Li Chen hadn’t been listening to Lin Shaofeng. He had been engrossed in staring at an ancient zither behind Lin Shaofeng on the stage.
Over the past five centuries, Li Chen’s travels hadn’t been limited to the Tianyu Continent alone. He had visited worlds dominated by technological civilizations like Earth multiple times.
In fact, Earth’s level of advancement had been nothing but bottom-tier in his experience. Whether it was worlds of cultivation, technological worlds, or other types of civilizations, there had always existed people known as singers and musicians.

Curiously, Li Chen had once spent nearly sixty years in another world where he had worked as a musician. In the realm of musical theory, he had already achieved master status, and his instrument of choice had been the ancient zither.
Gazing at the zither, a vivid figure had involuntarily surfaced in Li Chen’s mind.
Was she… doing well?
“Hey! Shaofeng is calling you! What are you daydreaming about? You’re like a block of wood!” A female classmate sitting on Li Chen’s other side had nudged him, seemingly unhappy with his distraction.
“Block of wood…” Li Chen had murmured to himself.
She had once called him that too, hadn’t she? But where was she now?
A deeply buried emotion had been stirred within him. Li Chen had exhaled softly, a sigh that seemed to relieve a heavy burden.
Li Chen had come here primarily to relive the atmosphere of a gathering; he had not planned on staying long or revealing anything about himself. However, now, if he didn’t do something, the suppressed emotions within him would be hard to vent.
With that thought, Li Chen had abruptly stood up and walked directly toward the stage.
“Damn! He’s actually going up there?”
“Seriously? How shameless! He thinks too highly of himself!”
“Kid, you dare to go up there? Believe it or not, I’ll make you regret it!”
Various voices of discussion and cursing had filled the banquet hall, but Li Chen had paid them no mind. In his eyes, there had only been that ancient zither and the fleeting images in his mind.
Mount Tianjing, Qingfeng Platform, one zither, one song, two people…
In the blink of an eye, Li Chen had reached the edge of the stage. With a light jump, he had leaped onto the stage and walked to the zither, completely ignoring Lin Shaofeng.
