Chapter 6: Who Hired These Extras?
Having surveyed both of them, Li Chen shook his head dismissively. “There’s no need to take me as your master. I don’t have that much time to waste. Besides, with your aptitudes, it’s better for you to remain ordinary people.”
With that, Li Chen turned away, not sparing them another glance. In his previous life, where he had traversed countless realms for five hundred years, he had only taken twenty-one disciples. Each was an extraordinary talent. Becoming his disciple was not so simple.
Upon hearing his words, a flash of disappointment crossed Liang Keyun’s face. However, it was quickly replaced by determination, and she clenched her fists. She knew that Li Chen represented an opportunity for her, perhaps the most important opportunity of her life. She couldn’t give up now!
Xu Yao, on the other hand, felt insulted. “Li Chen! You bastard! Stop right there! Am I that bad?” she shouted at Li Chen, who was walking away.
“Silence! Show some respect for the Master!” Liang Keyun rebuked, her icy gaze fixed on Xu Yao as if ready to tear her apart for one more word.
Caught off guard, Xu Yao was momentarily stunned. When she came to her senses, she was both embarrassed and annoyed. “What are you pretending for, you fox! You just want to get close to Li Chen under the guise of learning the ancient zither!”
Liang Keyun looked down on Xu Yao disdainfully. She had grander ambitions; how could she be so shallow? But now was not the time to squabble with Xu Yao. Liang Keyun’s priority was to listen to the ancient zither music she had just recorded.
Meanwhile, when Li Chen returned to his dormitory, his roommate Ma Fancong was engrossed in a mobile game. Due to a shortage of dorms, the new archaeology freshmen at Haining University were housed in graduate student dormitories, which were double rooms and much more comfortable.
In theory, this should have been a cause for celebration. However, there were always exceptions, like Li Chen. Although more comfortable, the double rooms were also more expensive, which became an unexpected burden for Li Chen, who was already not well-off.
“You’re back? Was it boring?” Ma Fancong asked, without looking up from his game.
“It was fine,” Li Chen responded indifferently, sitting down on his own bed.
“Whatever,” Ma Fan Cong snorted, his focus still on his phone.
Ma Fancong had skipped the welcoming party, claiming that wasting precious time on trivial matters was a great loss. In his opinion, most things, other than playing games, were trivial.
After a moment of silence, Ma Fancong spoke up again, “So, you met both the campus beauties, Xu Yao and Liang Keyun. How was it?”

Upon hearing Ma Fancong’s question, Li Chen rolled his eyes and lay back, turning away to ignore him further.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Ma Fan Cong called out irritably. Seeing that Li Chen was ignoring him, he grumbled, “Look at you, with no ambitions. I’m really worried you’ll remain single throughout these four years of university.”
As he spoke, Ma Fancong shifted his focus back to his phone, plunging into another round of gaming. Tomorrow was Saturday, and he planned to indulge himself fully over the weekend. After all, a grueling month of military training was awaiting him after this weekend.
“Knock, knock, knock!” A soft knocking sound echoed at the door.
“Who is it? Come in!” Ma Fan Cong yelled without lifting his head, his attention still fixed on his mobile game.
However, there was no response from outside the door, as if someone was playing a prank.
“Who the hell is this bored…” Ma Fancong muttered under his breath, not giving it much thought.
“Knock, knock, knock!” A few minutes later, the knocking resumed.
Ma Fancong glanced at the door and shouted again, “Come in!”
But once more, there was no movement from outside.
After several such occurrences, Ma Fancong could no longer contain his annoyance. The next time someone knocked, he leapt off his bed and flung the door open.
“Who the hell is—” His words were cut off abruptly.
At the doorway, he found a pile of letters stacked up, almost as tall as a person. From the pink and yellow envelopes, it was evident that these letters were from female students. Ma Fan Cong examined them closely and discovered that all the visible envelopes had Li Chen’s name written on them, each in different handwriting.
“Li Chen, where did you hire all these extras?” Ma Fan Cong turned back and asked incredulously, not for a moment believing that these letters were genuine.
Li Chen, who was lying on his bed, couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Although Ma Fancong was unaware, he knew very well that these letters were clearly from admirers who had just heard his ancient zither performance.
They certainly acted quickly.
Looking at the stack of letters at the door and contemplating his past life, Li Chen felt a wave of melancholy.
On the first night after his rebirth, Li Chen didn’t use his time to cultivate; instead, he lay in bed, restless, contemplating this new life.
A night passed without words. Early the next morning, while Ma Fancong was still deep in sleep, Li Chen had already reached the romantic sanctuary of Haining University—the lakeside of Yangui Lake.
Yangui Lake was man-made but expansive. Standing by its shores in the early morning, looking at the misty water, felt incredibly refreshing.
Li Chen had come here primarily to find a quiet spot to practice his martial arts and loosen up his muscles. After all, his current body had many shortcomings.

Looking around, Li Chen had initially intended to find a secluded spot. However, he noticed a relatively spacious plaza not far away, where a group of older men and women had been practicing Tai Chi.
Li Chen found himself momentarily stunned; his thoughts had drifted to his master from his previous life. Before his transmigration in that former existence, Li Chen had taken on a master and had spent some time learning Tai Chi.
Of course, the Tai Chi that Li Chen had learned was not the legendary martial arts skill that allowed for leaping across rooftops and flicking leaves as lethal projectiles. However, it also wasn’t the leisurely, health-focused exercise that the older men and women were performing nearby.
The man who had taught Li Chen Tai Chi was named Qin Changhui. In that past life, Li Chen had only chanced upon taking Qin Changhui as his master during his sophomore year in university.
Had it not been for Qin Changhui, Li Chen might have lived an entirely ordinary life, much like the majority of people. Even now, having been reborn, Li Chen felt a deep sense of gratitude when he thought of Qin Changhui.
Li Chen had actually been an orphan, living in an orphanage since childhood until he was adopted by a couple at the age of six.
Although his adoptive parents had always been fairly good to him, their jobs were incredibly demanding, limiting the time they could spend with him.
In Li Chen’s memories, his impression of his adoptive parents was rather faint; after all, the days they had spent together were not numerous.
In contrast, Qin Changhui felt more like family to Li Chen.
