The Secret Behind the Veil
The Secret Behind the Veil Chapter 18

Chapter 18: “Yan Kui was so sad to see her for the first time”

The man in front of her was dark and handsome, with every feature of his face is extremely perfect. He had sharp eyebrows, bright eyes, and a straight nose, making his facial lines smooth and attractive.

He wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses that made him appear exceptionally composed.

However, his cold gaze, filtered through the thin lenses, aimed sharply at her, revealing a merciless intensity.

When Tang Zhishu accidentally bumped into him, her eyes flashed with a tremor.

The man looked to be about her age, tall and slender, though a bit lean, which didn’t make him seem weak. Instead, the gloomy aura he emitted made people hesitant to approach him.

But what shocked Tang Zhishu was how this person resembled the boy in the photo she had kept for twenty years.

Others might not see any similarity, but for Tang Zhishu, who had gazed at that photo daily, the resemblance was striking.

At first sight, her heart raced uncontrollably.

In that moment, she felt a strong connection to him…

While Tang Zhishu was stunned, the young man merely shot her a cold glance before stepping aside and walking away.

Tang Zhishu turned around, her thick, trembling eyelashes framing bright eyes as she closely watched his retreating figure.

Could he be her brother…?

After leaving the restroom, Tang Zhishu instinctively searched for the man she had bumped into.

But after searching for a long time, she couldn’t find him.

Feeling lost, she lowered her head, her eyes reddening uncontrollably.

Where was her brother…?

Tang Zhishu felt guilty and useless; despite all these years, she still hadn’t found her brother.

She had no idea how much he had suffered.

He wasn’t just her brother; they were siblings who had shared the same womb for over nine months.

As Tang Zhishu stood there, lost in her thoughts and sadness, she was unaware that, since the moment she had come out of the restroom looking for her brother, the man in the distance had been watching her.

Yan Kui noticed her sadness for the first time, his brows furrowing as he focused his probing gaze on her.

What was she sad about?

Yan Kui frowned deeply, his thin, red lips pressed tightly together.

Soon, the party came to an end.

Guests gradually said their goodbyes to Old Man Tang and began to leave the mansion.

At that time, Tang Zhishu walked to the door with Jiang Jinyan and Mo Jinhan.

“Yanyan, it’s so late. Why don’t you stay here for the night and head back tomorrow?” Tang Zhishu reluctantly held her best friend’s hand.

Jiang Jinyan smiled gently, patting Tang Zhishu’s hand. “I’m worried about Xiao Kui. After thinking it over, I decided to go back. We’ll have a proper reunion when we all have time.”

Tang Zhishu could only nod regretfully. “Okay, when you get back, tell Xiao Kui that I miss her a lot.”

Jiang Jinyan nodded with a smile. “I will. Jinhang and I will head back now; take care of yourself, okay?”

“Ah, I know, I know! You guys hurry and go!” Tang Zhishu pushed Jiang Jinyan toward Mo Jinhan beside her.

After watching the two leave, Tang Zhishu turned to walk back.

But just after a few steps, she felt a painful rubbing on her foot.

There were still some guests around, so she had to endure the pain and walked inside.

Just as Tang Zhishu was about to look for Butler Liu, she ran into Yan Kui.

Her instinct was to turn around and run away.

But before she could take two steps, the man’s warm hand firmly yet lightly grabbed the back of her neck.

The sudden touch made Tang Zhishu shiver.

Then, Yan Kui’s unique, seductive voice came to her ear.

“Are you a cat? Why do you run away as soon as you see me?”

With his grip on her neck, Tang Zhishu wanted to move but couldn’t. The sensitive spot on her neck being touched sent a tingling sensation through her body.

Tang Zhishu instinctively licked her lips and retorted, “So, are you a dog? Cats run away from dogs.”

Hearing her clear insult, Yan Kui raised an eyebrow and smirked lazily. “No, I’m a wolf, the kind of wolf that eats people.”

Tang Zhishu: “…”

“Shameless old thief! You just want my body!”

“…”

A few seconds later, Tang Zhishu suddenly heard his deep, pleasant chuckle above her head.

“I’m curious, what are you thinking in that head of yours?”

Tang Zhishu tried to suppress the strange feeling on her neck and replied impatiently, “None of your business.”

Yan Kui frowned. “Speak properly.”

“Tsk, Young Master Yan, do you have any business? If not, please let go of me. Don’t go around touching people,” Tang Zhishu said, frowning.

Seeing this, Yan Kui stared at her profile for two seconds before releasing his grip.

As soon as Yan Kui let go, Tang Zhishu quickly slipped away.

She wasn’t foolish; she didn’t want to stick around any longer.

Yan Kui watched her escape with a strange look in his dark eyes.

Tang Zhishu finally see butler Liu.

Butler Liu was instructing the servants to clean up.

“Uncle Liu, do you have a moment?”

Butler Liu turned when he heard her voice.

Seeing it was Tang Zhishu, he smiled kindly. “Third Miss, what can I do for you?”

Tang Zhishu smiled sweetly. “It’s nothing much. I just ran into someone earlier who looked familiar, so I wanted to ask you for the guest list from tonight’s banquet, if it’s convenient.”

Butler Liu replied with a smile, “Of course, Third Miss. Just wait a moment, and I’ll get the list for you.”

“Okay.”

In no time, Butler Liu returned with the guest list.

As Tang Zhishu flipped through the list, she suddenly asked, “Uncle Liu, do you remember if there was a young man at the banquet tonight, about my age, around 1.88 meters tall, wearing a black suit? Oh, and he had a pair of gold-rimmed glasses.”

Butler Liu immediately recalled who she was talking about.

As he flipped through the list, he scanned the names.

Although Butler Liu was older, he had been working at the Tang estate since he was thirty.

He had handled many matters, whether its big or small situation.

So, in terms of memory, Butler Liu was even better than many young people.

Before long, his finger stopped on one of the names.

“Third Miss, the person you mentioned should be this one.”
