The Secret Behind the Veil
The Secret Behind the Veil Chapter 34

Chapter 34: “Time to Start”

Thirty minutes later.

Director Chen looked at everyone and began to explain the content and requirements for this episode’s filming.

“Dear guests, let me explain the details of our first escape room episode.”

“As you all know, something happened in this hotel five years ago, so we need you to escape from the eighth floor to the basement with the hotel manager, just like the fifteen people did back then.”

“We’ve also hired twenty volunteers to play the ‘criminals.’ I need to clarify that, for the sake of the show, you cannot let the ‘criminals’ catch you. If you do, that person will have to leave the recording of this episode.”

Looking at them, Director Chen continued, “Of course, to ensure fairness, these twenty volunteers don’t know the layout of the hotel. They are here for the first time, just like you. Our production team has already obtained the escape route the hotel manager used with the fifteen people.”

“We’ve also installed cameras along these escape routes, and there are cameras in every room on each floor, so everything you do will be recorded.”

As Director Chen explained, everyone understood the rules of the episode.

At that moment, Yan Luo raised her hand and smiled at Director Chen, asking, “Director Chen, if all ten of us get caught by the ‘criminals,’ do we still need to record this episode?”

Director Chen: “…”

The production staff: “…”

Director Chen awkwardly chuckled and replied, “That won’t happen. I still believe in your reasoning and escaping abilities. Besides, you don’t need to worry too much; we’ve left clues in every room on each floor. But you’ll need to use your brains to find them.”

At this point, Director Chen added, “We’ve also prepared food in every room on each floor, but you need to find clues first to access the food.”

Yan Luo suddenly realized, “Oh, I get it now! By the way, Director Chen, do you have any snacks? What if I can’t find food and starve?”

Everyone: “…”

It was hard to blame her for being overly cute; in the end, the production team gave Yan Luo some snacks.

After everyone understood the rules, Director Chen instructed them to blindfold their eyes and have the staff lead them up to the eighth floor.

The purpose was to prevent them from memorizing the hotel’s layout and routes.

However, Director Chen didn’t know that for Yan Kui and Tang Zhishu, even with their eyes covered, they could easily remember every route they took.

“Ding—”

The elevator doors opened slowly on the eighth floor.

Two staff members led everyone into one of the rooms on the eighth floor.

Once all ten guests entered the room, the staff quickly left.

At the same time, the twenty volunteers playing the “criminals” entered the lobby on the first floor from the hotel entrance.

The recording officially began.

In the room.

Everyone took off their blindfolds.

They looked at each other, unsure of what to do next.

At that moment, Tang Zhishu lazily said, “The ‘criminals’ will search from the first floor to the eighth floor, probably in about fifteen minutes. If you don’t want to get caught, everyone should hurry and look for clues.”

After saying that, Tang Zhishu began to wander around the room.

She checked everything in the room.

Hearing Tang Zhishu’s words, although the others didn’t know how she figured it would only take fifteen minutes, they were all eager to participate in the show and certainly didn’t want to be caught in the first episode.

Especially Lin Xiaoxiao and Liang Xiaoya, as artists, they didn’t want to be forced to leave the recording in the first episode; otherwise, they would be ridiculed by netizens.

What they thought would be a simple variety show recording unexpectedly turned into a life-threatening situation…
