Chapter 15: Examining Lin Wentao with Medical Skills
“Da’er, it’s pitch dark now. Can you see?” Lin Dayu looked around the room, which was filled with darkness, and added a comment.
“It’s fine, Third Brother is lying with his head near the edge of the bed, and the moonlight is coming through the window. It’s still relatively bright,” Lin Luoxi replied, glancing outside at the moonlight that illuminated everything as brightly as daylight. She couldn’t help but sigh, marveling at how beautiful the moon was in ancient times.
Moreover, her medical skills were already so refined that even if she couldn’t see clearly, she could feel around with her hands and get a general idea. The only downside was that this might cause her to touch Lin Wentao’s wounds, which could increase his pain.
Lin Luoxi didn’t waste any time with words. She walked to Lin Wentao’s bedside and gently placed her slender hands on his forehead, starting to feel around.
Although Lin Wentao was unconscious, it seemed that Lin Luoxi’s touch caused him to frown in pain, and tears streamed from the corners of his eyes.
Lin Luoxi noticed this, and her heart eased.
The fact that he could feel pain and shed tears meant that his brain hadn’t suffered permanent damage. There was still a high chance he could wake up.
“Father, Mother, Third Brother’s condition isn’t as serious as Dr. Yang said. You see, he still has sensation and can feel pain. That means the blood vessels and nerves in his brain are obstructed, causing blood to pool…”
Lin Luoxi, completely immersed in her field of expertise, didn’t notice that Lin Dayu and his wife were completely confused. She spoke confidently and explained what she had discovered.
“Da’er, we don’t understand what you’re saying. But what I do understand is that you’re saying Third Brother still has a good chance of waking up, right?” Lin Dayu waited for Lin Luoxi to finish speaking before grabbing onto the key point and asking for clarification.
“Yes, but it will take some time,” Lin Luoxi said with a smile, realizing that she had gotten too technical with her explanation.
“Alright, as long as Third Brother has a chance to wake up, we’re willing to wait as long as it takes.” Lin Dayu said, though it sounded like they didn’t have any other options, and they were trusting Lin Luoxi completely.
Even if they had other methods, money was the biggest obstacle.
Without money, their only hope for Lin Wentao’s recovery was Lin Luoxi. Although Dr. Yang had said he was willing to try, he also stated that he wasn’t confident in his ability to wake Lin Wentao up. Lin Luoxi, however, had a much better chance.
Anyone who was smart would know that they had to put their trust in her.
After explaining everything to her parents, Lin Luoxi asked for a needle from Lin Wangshi. She disinfected it using the flame from a candle, then walked over to Lin Wentao’s bedside.
Even without needing to feel for acupuncture points with her hands, the positions of the points she needed to needle appeared clearly in her mind. Her movements were swift and decisive, never hesitating or wasting time.
To Lin Dayu and his wife, it looked as though Lin Luoxi’s speed in administering the needles could rival that of seasoned doctors with decades of experience.
The moonlight illuminated the room, casting a soft glow around Lin Luoxi, making her look almost mysterious and sacred.
She had to needle many points, and these were the most dangerous ones. Her pace slowed as she moved from the first to the last acupuncture point, and soon a thin layer of sweat formed on her forehead.
Once she had finished needling all the points in her mind, Lin Luoxi almost staggered, her body swaying as if she might lose her balance.
“Be careful,” someone in the room called out. It seemed the others had been so focused on Lin Luoxi’s serious and mysterious work that they hadn’t noticed when Lin Wenqian entered.
This was Lin Wenqian’s first time seeing his sister work so intently and mysteriously. He stood there, watching her for a while without speaking.
Just as Lin Luoxi was about to lose her balance, Lin Wenqian quickly reached out and supported her from falling.
“Thank you, Big Brother.” Lin Luoxi felt her body was so weak. After just performing acupuncture, she felt completely drained, relying on Lin Wenqian’s support to stay upright.
“No need to be so polite with me, little sister.” Lin Wenqian noticed that after Lin Luoxi’s soul had returned, she had become much more polite toward him, not like before when she would cling to him and act spoiled.
“Hehe, I’ll pay attention in the future.” Lin Luoxi couldn’t help but sigh inwardly, thinking how perceptive her younger brother was!
Lin Wenqian also understood that Lin Luoxi’s soul had previously lived in another place and likely had a difficult time there, which was why she was being so polite and reserved with her family.
He didn’t say anything else, just supported Lin Luoxi as they made their way to the room where she and Lin Lokeng slept.
He couldn’t help but think to himself: *My little sister has become so distant from the family. In the future, I need to treat her even better so she can feel the love and care from her family.*
Lin Luoxi didn’t know what Lin Wenqian was thinking. When they left Lin Dayu’s room, she only left one more piece of advice: “Father, Mother, in addition to acupuncture, Third Brother will need some external herbal ointment.”
“Da’er, how much money do we need for the herbal ointment for your third brother?” Lin Dayu, hearing Lin Luoxi’s words, began to calculate in his head, wondering if the money from the village chief and Big Uncle would be enough. He also thought about whether he could borrow from someone else.
“Father, I know some medical skills myself. I can go up the mountain tomorrow and gather the herbs, so we don’t need to spend any silver.” Lin Luoxi glanced around the house, which was in dire straits. It looked so run-down that even rats wouldn’t bother coming in. She could tell that Lin Dayu’s purse was extremely thin.
“Ah, you’ve really suffered, Da’er.” Lin Dayu spoke to Lin Luoxi with a dry, heartbroken expression.
As a mother, seeing her child being nearly killed, yet not being able to seek justice, and now not even having money to pay for medical treatment, she felt the weight of failure deeply.
“It’s alright, Father. As long as our family works together, we’ll get better and better.” Lin Luoxi said with confidence, believing that the family could gradually improve.
“Father, Mother, you should rest now. Little sister is also tired and needs to go back to sleep,” Lin Luoxi said, trying to change the subject so her parents could get some rest.
Lin Wenqian didn’t like hearing this kind of sentimental talk. He was afraid he might get emotional, so he quickly diverted the conversation.
“Alright, you take your sister back to rest. Tomorrow we’ll get up early, and you and your sister will go up the mountain to help,” Lin Dayu said, nodding and giving Lin Wenqian a few more instructions before falling silent.
“Mm!” Whether Lin Dayu heard him or not, Lin Wenqian nodded and helped Lin Luoxi back to their room.
“Tomorrow, I’ll go up the mountain with you,” Lin Wenqian said as he closed the door, then turned and left.
After lying down on her bed, Lin Luoxi listened to Lin Lokeng’s steady breathing, but for some reason, she couldn’t fall asleep. She stared at the thatched roof above her, with small patches of moonlight filtering through the cracks.
Her mind was full of thoughts—thinking about her medical facility back home and the jade pendant that had brought her to this place.
It seemed like she had been thinking for too long, as suddenly, the scene before her shifted. She felt herself moving from the bed to a completely different place, a brightly lit area that seemed to have nothing around it.
Lin Luoxi blinked, surprised at the sudden change in her surroundings, feeling a bit confused.
