Chapter 31: The Relationship Has Ruptured
“Little sister, about those wild chickens you mentioned! I hid them in the back!” Lin Wencheng, seeing Lin Luoxi searching for the chickens, gave a mysterious smile and led the way ahead.
“So that’s why when the Lin family’s matriarch came earlier, big brother ran to the back to hide something!” Lin Linyin realized this as she followed behind Lin Luoxi.
“What? Those shameless folks from the old Lin family actually came back?” Lin Luoxi frowned at Lin Linyin’s words.
“Of course! It seems they came to our house looking for something, rushing right in without greeting us. They even took the fish you had pickled!” Lin Linyin pouted, her tone full of disdain, clearly disliking talking about such people who ruined her mood.
“Hmph, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” Lin Luoxi scoffed upon hearing that her fish had been taken.
First, she went to the back of the house with Lin Wencheng to check on the three wild chickens.
Seeing the three chickens sitting pitifully in the corner, looking weak and dejected, Lin Luoxi immediately instructed, “Big brother, little sister, while it’s still dark, quickly kill these three chickens and pluck their feathers. When I get back, I’ll cook!”
“Second sister, it’s so late. Where are you planning to go?” Lin Wencheng stood up, noticing the urgency in Lin Luoxi’s tone.
“Hmph, the old Lin family keeps coming to our house to take advantage. In the past, we let it slide, but now that we’ve severed ties, there’s no relationship anymore. If we don’t stand on our own feet, situations like this will keep happening.”
After saying this, she reminded Lin Wencheng to handle things properly in the back and not to tell their parents about it.
Seeing Lin Wencheng obey her and getting busy with Lin Linyin, a cold smirk appeared on her lips. She changed into a bloody shirt she hadn’t had time to wash yet.
After coming out, she wandered around the house before finally entering the kitchen to grab a kitchen knife.
“Where are you going with that knife, Da Ya?” Lin Wang saw Lin Luoxi heading out with the knife and quickly followed her.
“Da Ya, what are you doing dressed like that at this hour?”
Lin Dayou, who was drying herbs in the yard, noticed Lin Luoxi’s attire and the kitchen knife in her hand. His heart sank in apprehension as he asked.
“Mom and Dad, let me ask you, did the old Lin family come by today?” Lin Luoxi coldly looked at Lin Dayou and Lin Wang.
Seeing her icy demeanor, Lin Dayou felt an unexplainable fear toward his daughter.
Under her cold gaze, he could only stiffly nod, “Yes.”
Lin Wang, noticing her daughter’s frosty eyes, felt a mix of emotions inside her, turning her face away and no longer looking at Lin Dayou.
“Did they also take something from our house?” Lin Luoxi’s heart sank further as she observed her father’s demeanor.
“Yes,” Lin Dayou nodded again, feeling as if he had disappointed his daughter.
“Dad, you didn’t sever ties with the old Lin family because we encouraged you, right?” Lin Luoxi relentlessly dug into Lin Dayou’s soul, bringing his hidden pain into the open.
“No,” Lin Dayou felt somewhat embarrassed but also a bit angry at being confronted this way.
“Dad, since it wasn’t our encouragement, do you know what severing ties means?”
“It means severing all ties. Since the old Lin family has nothing to do with us anymore, why did they come to our house to take things? Why didn’t you stop them?”
“Do you know how hard it has been for our family? I saw that we didn’t have enough food. You, your mother, and your brother all need nourishment to recover, which is why I went with big brother to fish in the middle of the night.”
“But instead of stopping them from taking the fish meant for your brother’s health, you acted as if nothing happened! What on earth were you thinking…”
“If you’re so attached to them, then Dad, you might as well go back and live with them!” Lin Luoxi initially spoke with great emotion, but seeing the annoyance in Lin Dayou’s eyes made her anger dissipate, leaving her feeling powerless.
“And you, Mom. We’ve already severed ties with the old Lin family. They can’t pressure you with the filial piety issues anymore. Why are you so afraid to resist?”
What truly disappointed Lin Luoxi was not just her parents allowing the old Lin family to take their fish, but that they didn’t even think to fight back against the oppression. It would only leave her and her siblings to suffer.
“Fine, they’ve taken what they want; does that justify your words against me and your mother? You’ve already given things to the village chief; giving to others is no different.” Lin Dayou couldn’t help but retort.
“You two may be dutiful, but I refuse to accept that,” Lin Luoxi’s passionate resolve flared up, and at that moment, Lin Dayou’s words snapped her back to reality.
Fueled by anger, she charged out with the kitchen knife in hand.
“Da Ya, where are you going?” Seeing the disappointment in his daughter’s eyes, Lin Dayou’s heart raced with fear, regretting what he had just said.
He worried that Lin Luoxi might do something irrational, so he quickly stepped in front of her.
“I don’t care who you want to give things to, but please don’t use my things to give away.” At that moment, Lin Luoxi’s tone toward her parents became distant yet polite.
“Step aside. Just because you’re willing to be a soft target doesn’t mean everyone else is going to be!” The more she looked at Lin Dayou, the more frustrated she felt, her gaze cold enough to freeze.
Seeing Lin Dayou still standing in her way, she raised the knife and swung it down in a mock attack.
Lin Dayou, fearing for his life, quickly dodged to the side.
After watching her father evade her, Lin Luoxi smirked bitterly and strode confidently outside.
“Mother, hurry and catch up! We can’t let Da Ya do anything rash!” Lin Dayou called anxiously to Lin Wang, wanting to follow.
But he tugged at Lin Wang, who remained still. When he turned back, he was surprised to see a relieved smile on her face.
“Dear, you’re really disappointing us. I support our daughter’s decision. Since you can’t sever ties with the old Lin family, you might as well pack your things and go live with your parents!”
Seeing Lin Luoxi’s strong stance, Lin Wang knew that better days were coming for them. In this family, if their daughter could stand up for herself and no longer let those bloodsucking vampires interfere, it was what she had always wanted to see.
She may not be able to confront the old Lin family, but her daughter could. Therefore, she wouldn’t hold Lin Luoxi back.
“What’s wrong with you today, dear? Da Ya must be making a scene at big brother’s house.” Lin Dayou furrowed his brow at the unusual behavior of Lin Wang.
