Chapter 29: Working Is Impossible

Wang Dafu suddenly asked a question. He meant to show concern for Yanchun, but it made her feel even worse.

“What can I do? I’m a woman whose husband is dead. What can I do? Dafu, if you marry Yanchun, it’ll be easier for her!”

Yanchun was also blunt, staring intently at Wang Dafu, her eyes almost devouring him!

Wang Dafu smiled helplessly. His mind was in turmoil. He liked Yanchun, and he liked Wu Xianhua, but he couldn’t really have two women, could he?

“Didn’t Yanchun eat you?”

Wu Xianhua teased him playfully. Wang Dafu chuckled, “Sister-in-law, why do you say that about Yanchun? I just helped her get her land subsidy!”

Wu Xianhua fanned herself, “Women understand women best. She even confessed to you at dinner last night. Sister-in-law knows what’s going on in that woman’s mind better than you, you fool!”

Wang Dafu still didn’t think so. He sat down beside Wu Xianhua and whispered, “Sister-in-law, Yanchun is so pitiful. She got three thousand yuan tonight and said she’s going to work in a few days. What do you think she’s thinking?”

“Working?”

Wu Xianhua sat up, thought for a moment, and snorted, “You fool, she’s lying!”

Wang Dafu shook his head, “Sister-in-law, I’ve thought about it. In the future, when we work and make money, should we give Yanchun a share? She’s a woman with no income!”

Wu Xianhua looked at Wang Dafu, neither confirming nor denying. Her expression was unreadable. She smiled, “You fool, did you already tell her about this?”

Wang Dafu nodded.

Wu Xianhua sighed, stood up, and said, “We’ll talk about it later!”

Then, she went straight to bed.

Leaving Wang Dafu alone, sitting in the yard, lost in thought.

After a while, Wang Dafu got up and prepared to go to bed. He had to go buy a car tomorrow, and he had to choose carefully.

“Dafu, come to Sister-in-law’s room!”

Wang Dafu nodded and went back to his room. He found the gourd, pulled off the lid, and poured a drop of liquid into a cup. A strange fragrance filled the room. He added some water to the cup, then carried it to Wu Xianhua’s room.

Wu Xianhua’s face was pained. She was lying in bed, clutching her stomach, breathing heavily, and her face was flushed. Every month, Wu Xianhua had to go through this. Sometimes she thought that she didn’t want to be a woman in her next life. It was too hard to be a woman.

“Sister-in-law, when did the pain start?”

Wu Xianhua gritted her teeth and glanced at Wang Dafu, “Just now!”

Wang Dafu could have directly given Wu Xianhua the water in the cup, but that would be too dramatic. He had to act the part.

Then, he asked Wu Xianhua to lie down and rest. He went back to his room.
