Chapter 36: Let Go, You Bastard
Yanchun Jie usually kept her door closed, wanting to avoid trouble and gossip from the villagers.
The gossipmongers in Jiangliu Village, once they got hold of someone, wouldn’t let go until they reached the Yellow River.
“Yanchun Jie, open the door.”
Yanchun Jie had just finished dinner alone and was lost in thought when she heard the voice. Knowing it was Wang Dafu, she was delighted and ran to open the door.
“Oh, Dafu, are you going to catch loaches?”
Yanchun Jie perked up. She was so bored and lonely alone. The weather was hot, and she had no one to keep her company. She was going crazy.
“Yanchun Jie, are you coming? Hold the bucket and shine the light for me.”
Yanchun Jie immediately nodded, “Yes! Wait for me, Sister will change clothes.”
Wang Dafu hated waiting for women to change clothes. After a long time, Yanchun Jie finally changed into a pair of shorts and wore flip-flops.
“That won’t do, Yanchun Jie. You can’t wear flip-flops!”
“Why?”
Wang Dafu smiled, “You’re not afraid of snakes, but I am. Go change into a pair of rain boots. It’s safer!”
Yanchun Jie went back under the eaves and pulled out a pair of rain boots that her husband used to wear from the shoe rack. Although they didn’t fit perfectly, at least they would protect her from snakes.
They were ready and went out together. The sky was already getting dark. Looking out over Jiangliu Village, the rolling fields were beautiful. Wang Dafu was in a good mood. He had Yanchun Jie by his side, and his steps were light.
Many people were out walking and enjoying the cool breeze. When they saw Wang Dafu going to catch loaches, they all came over to greet him with a smile, with a hint of mockery. Wang Dafu didn’t care at all.
At that moment, not far ahead, Zhang Hao suddenly appeared. He glanced at Wang Dafu and Yanchun Jie and immediately understood what was going on. He was furious!
“Damn it, this Wang Fool is even taking Yanchun Jie to the fields. They’re having a blast. I’m going to make sure you don’t catch any loaches today!”
He sneered. Last time, he had brought a few people to find trouble with Wang Dafu, but Wang Dafu had beaten them up. He couldn’t forget that grudge. Although he was a little afraid of Wang Dafu’s strength, he still wanted revenge.
Since he couldn’t beat him, he would play dirty.
Wang Dafu pulled Yanchun Jie and went down to the fields to start looking for loaches and eels. Zhang Hao called two people and started stirring the water in the paddy fields with branches in front of them.
Before Wang Dafu even got there, the loaches, eels, and frogs in the paddy fields were scared and fled. There was nothing left to catch.
At first, Wang Dafu didn’t know what was going on. He walked along the paddy field for a long time and didn’t catch a single one. He was a little discouraged.
“Yanchun Jie, what’s going on? We’re having bad luck tonight!”
Yanchun Jie was carrying the bucket, and Wang Dafu was holding the clamps and flashlight, standing by the paddy field.
“Dafu, maybe there aren’t any here? Let’s try another place?”
Wang Dafu nodded. It was already dark, and it was hard to see in the distance. He could vaguely see other people’s flashlights. They must also be catching wild food from the fields. After they changed locations, they still didn’t catch anything!
Suddenly, Wang Dafu sat down on his bottom, ready to rest for a while.
“Yanchun Jie, you sit down too. It’s clean here!”
Yanchun Jie sat beside Wang Dafu. Her thighs itched, as if she had been bitten by mosquitoes.
“Yanchun Jie, have you been busy at home these past two days?”
Wang Dafu wondered if he should go help Yanchun Jie. Farm work in the countryside was always heavy.
Yanchun Jie smiled, “What? You want to come help Yanchun Jie? No need. When I’m done with things at home, Sister is going out!”
“Yanchun Jie, are you really going out?”
Wang Dafu turned his head. In the darkness, in the fields, the woman beside him felt like a warm breeze.
“You think Sister is joking with you? Didn’t I tell you?”
Yanchun Jie’s eyes were burning, and they both felt the heat.
“You fool, what if Sister misses you later?”
Yanchun Jie smiled ambiguously, her voice low.
The surroundings were pitch black, with only the croaking of frogs, no other sound.
“Then don’t go. I can help Yanchun Jie make money.”
Wang Dafu wasn’t joking. He was serious. He had mentioned this to his Sister-in-law before, and Wu Xianhua hadn’t agreed, but she hadn’t objected either.
But Yanchun Jie didn’t believe him. She just thought he was being silly and trying to comfort her.
“You fool, let Sister hug you now, okay?”
Yanchun Jie was moved. Taking advantage of the quiet and deserted surroundings, she couldn’t contain her feelings. Her love for Wang Dafu surged forth. She didn’t care even if they were in the fields.
Wang Dafu hesitated and nodded. He put down his things. Yanchun Jie smiled slightly, a little embarrassed. Thankfully, it was dark and her face couldn’t be seen clearly.
She gently hugged Wang Dafu, feeling his warmth and strength, her heart racing.
Wang Dafu smelled the woman’s fragrance and felt a little dizzy.
Yanchun Jie’s straps were too tight. He wanted to help loosen them.
“Yanchun Jie, your clothes are too tight…”
“You fool, you’re so bad. Sister likes it!”
“Yanchun Jie, it’s the middle of nowhere. There are mosquitoes…”
“You fool, you…”
Wang Dafu’s mouth was dry. He was about to say something when he heard footsteps coming from ahead.
Then, a flashlight shone on him and Yanchun Jie.
“Wang Fool, let go, you bastard!”
The person was Zhang Hao. He had just used branches to drive away the loaches and eels. When he turned around, he saw that Wang Dafu and Yanchun Jie weren’t moving. Zhang Hao was puzzled and secretly walked back. When he saw that Wang Dafu and Yanchun Jie were already getting close, he was about to attack!
Zhang Hao couldn’t stand it. He charged forward without hesitation.
Wang Dafu was stunned. He looked at him and said softly, “Zhang Hao? Why is it you again? What are you doing here?”
Yanchun Jie’s face turned red. She hid behind Wang Dafu.
“Wang Dafu, you’re shameless. Yanchun Jie has a man. What are you trying to do?”
Wang Dafu sneered, “I haven’t done anything. Don’t talk nonsense.”
Zhang Hao was furious. He knew he couldn’t beat Wang Dafu, but he wasn’t willing to give up. He pointed at Wang Dafu’s nose and was about to scold him.
“I’m going to expose you two dogs to the whole village!”
Wang Dafu walked over and stared at him coldly.
“You have no proof. Try it. I’ll beat the crap out of you today!”
