”Got it.” Xiaotian nodded, holding the empty bowl and walked out. After walking two steps, he turned back and whispered, “Brother Zhou Zhou, can you help my father?”
”What’s wrong? What happened to your father?”
Xiaotian’s eyes were red, and tears as big as beans rolled down. He wiped his tears with the back of his hand and said, “My father’s leg was injured. That man kicked him. My father said it was no big deal, but it’s been two days and it hurts when he works. All the money in the family has been taken away, and grandpa and grandma won’t let me buy medicine, saying it’s inconvenient to go to town because of the heavy snow.”
”Got it. It’s dark and the snow is slippery. Be careful on your way back.”
Xiaotian wiped his tears, not knowing what else to say. No one in the village helped them. If it weren’t for his father protecting him, he wouldn’t have been kicked.
Li Zhouzhou went home only after seeing Xiaotian walking away.
At dinner, Li Zhouzhou thought and thought, not knowing how to start. Gu Zhao saw that Zhouzhou had just withdrawn money for Xiaotian and was in a state of anxiety, so he asked, “What happened to Uncle Wang?”
”Husband, how did you know?” Li Zhouzhou put down the bowl and repeated what Xiaotian said. At the end, he whispered, “I want to go to town tomorrow to buy a bottle of medicinal oil.”
Li Zhouzhou looked at his father again, “The medicinal oil is not expensive. I bought cheap ones and used the money from selling eggs.”
Li Da had been eating his porridge without saying anything. He glanced at Zhou Zhou and said, “It’s snowing so hard. How dare you go out alone? I’ll go tomorrow. I’m out of peanuts. I’ll buy some.”
There are still peanuts at home.
Gu Zhao could tell that his father loved Zhou Zhou very much, and he didn’t foolishly say that there were still more peanuts.
”Are there no peanuts left? I remember there are still some in the kitchen cabinet.” said Li Zhouzhou.
Gu Zhao: …My wife, you are so sincere.
”The Lantern Festival is coming soon. Shall we make Lantern Festival dumplings at home? Do we need to use glutinous rice flour? I’ll have to make a trip tomorrow to buy some glutinous rice flour.” Gu Zhao came to his father’s rescue.
Li Da nodded and said, “We still have peanuts, so we won’t buy any more. Let’s buy glutinous rice flour instead.”
The matter is settled.
After washing up and going back to their rooms, Li Zhouzhou asked about his husband’s dinner and asked, “Dad, do you want to help me run a trip?”
”Have you figured it out?”
”I didn’t think clearly at the time. I was just thinking about Uncle Wang and blurted it out.”
”We have a kind heart, Zhou Zhou. We have known each other for a long time and everyone loves you. They even give you an extra penny when buying a piece of tofu.” After teasing his wife, Gu Zhao became serious again and said, “Of course Dad loves you. Just like you said that when Xing’er was a child, he fell into the water and got sick. You two secretly boiled medicine without Dad’s knowledge. How could Dad not know?”
The smell of medicine was so strong, but I just pretended not to see it and acquiesced.
Li Zhouzhou knew that his father cared about him, otherwise he would not have spent money to find a son-in-law for him. No matter how he put it, the father and son had never talked about these things or brought them up in public. Now that he heard his husband say this, he felt warm in his heart.
Feel happy.
”No, I’ll let the dough rise, then get up early tomorrow to steam a pot of buns for Dad and eat them first, then go.” After saying that, Li Zhouzhou got up, got dressed, and went to the kitchen.
His Zhou Zhou is just like his father, he treats you well without words, he just does it with his actions. Gu Zhao got up, Li Zhou Zhou told his husband to lie down and sleep, he would be fine in a while.
”I can’t sleep, so I just want Zhou Zhou to talk to me.” Gu Zhao acted coquettishly.
Li Zhouzhou laughed, he could tell that his husband was teasing him.
The two went to the kitchen, and Li Zhouzhou kneaded the dough skillfully. It was cold and the dough would not rise in the basin in the kitchen, so he washed his hands, took the basin and placed it on the kang in the inner room, and put a basin on it.
After all this busy work, I went to bed early.
The next day, before the rooster crowed, Li Zhouzhou woke up in the dark, lit the oil lamp, and went to the kitchen with a basin. The stuffing was easy to mix, cabbage, tofu, and meat, mixed in a bowl, and some lard was poured in. The dough was well-fermented, and soon it was rolled out and the buns were placed on the steamer.
When the buns were out of the pot, Li Da also got dressed and came out. He saw the fire in the kitchen was on and knew that Zhou Zhou had gotten up early to cook. He said, “Why are you getting up so early? I’ll go to town and have something to eat.”
”Dad, buns.” Li Zhouzhou picked up a few buns and put them in a bowl and handed them to his father, then poured hot water, “Dad, these are stuffed with meat, eat them while they’re hot.”
