Saving the children is important.
Gu Zhao and Zhou Zhou hurried to the entrance of the alley. Fortunately, the lanterns on the main street were bright today and the light was very good. They saw a man holding a child stealthily in the alley at a glance. As the two walked over, the man holding the child also quickened his pace.
Something was clearly not right.
At a time like this, it would be better to apologize and make amends after a misunderstanding than to relax. Gu Zhao and Li Zhouzhou ran as fast as they could, shouting “Kidnapper, kidnapper, someone there is kidnapper.” as they ran. However, this alley was filled with deep courtyards and either the owners had gone out to watch the fun, or the people in the backyard couldn’t hear them, and the doorman didn’t want to meddle in other people’s business.
Fortunately, Gu Zhao and Li Zhouzhou were both strong and when the traffickers ran deeper into the fork in the road, they pushed the man to the ground. The child in their arms also rolled on the ground, but was quiet and didn’t cry.
”Zhou Zhou, go and see the child.” Gu Zhao held the human trafficker tightly and did not let go.
The man lying on the ground cried out, “You’re stealing my child!”
Gu Zhao didn’t believe it. “Your child? Your child, then why are you sneaking around like that?”
”I saw you two men following me secretly at night. It was obvious that you wanted to steal my child. How could I not run?” The man cried pitifully, “If this wasn’t my child, why didn’t he cry while holding him?”
Li Zhouzhou came over with the child in his arms. The child was still young, about four or five years old. It was dark and he couldn’t see his appearance clearly, but he touched the cloak on his body and found it was made of fur. He had made rabbit fur for Fubao, and this one was softer and smoother than rabbit fur. He said, “Husband, the child’s clothes look noble.”
”Isn’t it okay for a father to love his child?”
”How dare you tell lies? Since you are his father, we can just report to the police.” Gu Zhao remembered that the child had fallen from this man’s hands and rolled on the ground without crying. It was probably because there was something wrong with his throat, so he was picked up by the human trafficker because it was easy to take advantage of him if he didn’t cry.
When the man heard this, he immediately said that it was all a misunderstanding. After watching the lanterns, the father and son had to go back for dinner. The family was waiting for them. If they didn’t come back soon, their mother would be getting anxious. Besides, it was dark and the government office was not open. Please don’t delay our reunion.
”You don’t have to bother making up a lie. I’m a reviewer at the Imperial Academy. I’m not a judge, but can an official blackmail you into taking your child away? Come with me and find the patrol officer. If the child is really yours, I’ll pay you money to apologize for hurting you due to my misunderstanding today.”
Before Gu Zhao finished speaking, the thief who had just cried out in grievance became afraid and knelt down to beg for mercy, saying that he was possessed by a ghost and had an idea only after seeing the child lost and wandering around the street. He begged the master to let him go this time…
Gu Zhao dragged the man to the main street. No matter how the thief cried and complained about his grievances, he remained unmoved. Instead, the people on the main street looked at him sideways. Gu Zhao said, “I am the reviewer of the Hanlin Academy. This man just kidnapped a child and was caught by my wife and me. Now he is begging for mercy.”
When everyone heard this, they originally felt sympathy for him, but now they all glared at the beggar angrily.
“It’s really abominable.”
”spit!”
”How dare you come and beg for mercy? Fortunately, the reviewer saw it, otherwise the child would have suffered.”
”Thank goodness, thank goodness.”
Gu Zhao asked where the Jinwu Guards patrolling the streets were, and the people enthusiastically pointed the way.
There are still patrol soldiers in the capital after the curfew. These are naturally different from the yamen runners in the prefectures and counties. They carry swords and wear armor. They are soldiers trained in the barracks and are responsible for defending the capital.
Gu Zhao quickly found the Jinwu Guards with the cripple[1]referring to the kidnapper who was dragged, not really cripple in his hand. The cripple’s legs went limp when he saw the Jinwu Guards and he sat on the ground and urinated. Gu Zhao let go of his hand. Even if the cripple had a hundred guts, he would not dare to run away in front of the Jinwu Guards.
He first reported his identity and explained his purpose.
The captain of the Jinwu Guard waved his hand and asked his men to take the cripple away from the ground, while he bowed and thanked, “Thank you, Mr. Reviewer, for your help.” Gu Zhao was naturally polite and said that he just happened to see it.
”The child is here.” Li Zhouzhou came over holding the child’s hand.
When the Jinwu Guards saw what the child was wearing, they knew at first sight that he was from a noble family, so they immediately ordered their men to spread the word at each patrol post, and if anyone came to inquire about the missing child, they were to report immediately, and also to ask the child’s name, surname, and where he lived.
The child didn’t say anything and hid behind Li Zhouzhou.
Gu Zhao, the captain of the Jinwu Guard, said: “When we were chasing him just now, he fell to the ground but didn’t cry.”
This is a difficult situation. Jinwu Guard understood what Lord Gu meant. This child was probably unable to speak. He wanted to approach him, but the child was afraid of him. He was in a dilemma.
”To be honest, kidnappings like this happened frequently during the Lantern Festival in previous years. Now there are so many people looking for children. Even if I spread the news, there are four streets in the east, south, west and north with so many people, so it’s really hard to deal with it in a short time.”
Seeing that the captain of the Jinwu Guard was in a dilemma and seeing Zhou Zhou touching the child’s head, Gu Zhao took the job, borrowed a pen and paper and wrote down the child’s characteristics, including what he was wearing, what he looked like, how old he was, where he was found, and his home address. He told them to take him back for the time being, and if the child’s family could be contacted, they should come to his home as soon as possible to pick him up.
”…Keep him at my house for now, but I’d like to trouble the captain to find the child’s family as soon as possible.” Gu Zhao said.
The captain of the Jinwu Guard immediately expressed his gratitude and agreed.
They came out to see the lanterns, didn’t eat, and picked up a child out of nowhere. Gu Zhao and Zhou Zhou took the child to meet his father. The child walked slowly, so Gu Zhao picked him up and said, “Oh, it’s quite heavy.”
”How about I hold him?” Li Zhouzhou replied.
Gu Zhao: “No, you carried him all the way, your arms must be sore, let me do it.”
As the two were talking, the child looked around at them. Seeing this, Gu Zhao asked, “Can you understand what we are saying?”
The child nodded slowly.
Gu Zhaoben wanted to ask where your home was, but then he remembered that the child couldn’t tell him, so he gave up and decided to go back and talk about it later.
Arriving at the food store, the family met. Li Da held Fu Bao in his arms and sat on a stool, ordering a pot of tea and a plate of peanuts. Lan Mama was also sitting next to them, feeling awkward. When she saw the master and his wife coming back, she immediately stood up and stood aside.
”It’s ok, just sit down.” Li Zhouzhou said.
Mother Lan said that the old man was kind and let her rest. She said she would not sit down no matter what.
Li Da looked at the child in Gu Zhao’s arms, “Why did you bring him back? Where are his family members?”
Li Zhouzhou told him everything. Gu Zhao put the child on a stool, poured hot water over him and asked his father, “Is Fubao asleep?”
”It was fun watching the fun today. As soon as you two left, Fubao looked around everywhere. He just fell asleep because he was tired. I’m afraid he would be cold, so hold him tight.” Li Da saw that the kidnapper kidnapped the child, so as soon as the couple left, he would hold Fubao in his arms and even hold him when he fell asleep. Now he lifted the hood that covered half of his face, revealing Fubao’s little face, with rosy cheeks and sweet sleep.
Gu Zhao and Li Zhouzhou both had smiles on their faces.
”Let’s stop looking and go back.” Gu Zhao said.
Li Da and Li Zhouzhou were naturally happy about it, and hurried back so that Fubao could sleep soundly on the bed in the room.
The family walked back and arrived at the entrance of the mule cart alley. Fang Liu drove the cart out and saw that there was an extra child but did not ask much. It was not the servant’s turn to ask about the master’s family’s affairs.
The Li family watched the excitement and got on the mule cart and were almost home. In the imperial city, the Lin family, whose child was lost, was almost going crazy. Gu Zhao didn’t know that if he hadn’t come here in his previous life, the Lin family’s child and grandson would have been lost, but he was saved by the fifth prince by chance…
After the child was returned, the Lin family was naturally very grateful to the Fifth Prince, and even the current emperor praised him. Why? This child has a great background, and his mother is the only legitimate daughter of the deceased eldest prince.
The eldest prince got married at the age of sixteen. Just half a month after he went on the expedition, the eldest prince’s wife was found to be three months pregnant. After Kang Jing won the first victory, the eldest prince’s wife gave birth to a daughter. Empress Yuan even wrote a letter and sent it to the front. After reading it, Emperor Kang Jing was very happy and named the child himself.
…This is the only blood and flesh left by the eldest prince. Although she is a girl, Emperor Kang Jing and Empress Yuan love her like a treasure. Empress Yuan even raised her personally in the palace. Unfortunately, she was in poor health and did not forget to worry about Fu Yue before she died.
Among all the daughters of Emperor Kang Jing, except for a few who were married off to distant places, none of the others were given the title of princess. When it came to this granddaughter, she was given a name at birth, and was given the title of a county princess at the age of eight, and a princess at the age of fourteen. She was also given the title – Princess Changtai.
The marriage she sought was also arranged by Emperor Kang Jing, who was his first wife’s family, the Lin family. In terms of relationship, he was Princess Changtai’s cousin. After they got married their first child was a daughter, and the second child was the child that Gu Zhao and Li Zhou Zhou picked up.
Lin Kangan.
It was actually normal for Lin Kangan to cry when he was born. He could speak when he was a child, but gradually, don’t know when he started to become less talkative and became a quiet person.
