The Spoiled Military Wife Reigns Supreme, Her Officer Husband Can’t Take It Chapter 37

Chapter 37 – Xiao Rong, You Lucky Kid!

“Alright,” Rong Jingchen nodded and agreed. After clearing the dishes, he went to wash them.

Ye Muqi touched her round belly after the meal and just stayed sitting by the table. Instead of going to take a bath, she picked up the small accessories still lying at the edge of the table and started trying them on.

Besides a few hair clips, she had also bought two bracelets. They looked very pretty on her wrist and made her skin look even fairer.

Ye Muqi held her hand up under the light to inspect them closely. Her taste really was excellent—this bracelet suited her perfectly!

“What a shame. It’s not convenient to cook while wearing this,” Ye Muqi murmured, appreciating it for a moment before taking the bracelet off and returning to her room with the accessories.

The next morning, Rong Jingchen still got up early. After stepping out of his room and glancing at the quiet house, he walked to Ye Muqi’s door and knocked.

“Ye Muqi, time to get up.” With yesterday’s experience in mind, he knocked louder this time.

After all, a light knock wouldn’t wake her.

He didn’t want to go through another visual “shock” again—otherwise, he could forget about training the troops properly today.

He knocked for a while before stopping to listen for any movement inside.

It was dead silent. Even that loud knocking hadn’t woken Ye Muqi.

Rong Jingchen: “…”

Is his wife a pig?

Still not awake?

He sighed helplessly while standing at the door. He had never met anyone who slept as deeply as Ye Muqi.

But after what happened yesterday morning, he didn’t dare barge in again.

“Ye Muqi?” Rong Jingchen continued knocking.

The knocking persisted. Inside the room, Ye Muqi finally heard it in her sleep. She frowned, turned over, and was clearly annoyed at the early morning disturbance.

So noisy!

But the knocking didn’t stop. Eventually, Ye Muqi sat up, still groggy and with a bit of a temper from just waking up.

After a few seconds, she finally responded lazily, “I’m up, I’m up.”

Hearing her voice from inside, Rong Jingchen was relieved. Getting Ye Muqi out of bed was no easy task—and he couldn’t treat her the way he treated his soldiers…

Ye Muqi quickly got dressed and came out. After washing up, she went straight into the kitchen.

Prepping side dishes takes time, and Ye Muqi didn’t want Rong Jingchen to be late for the base. So, she just made a simple breakfast: an egg pancake, some fried dough sticks (youtiao), and took out some milk from her space.

Looking at the breakfast combo, Ye Muqi pondered the possibility of adding this to her breakfast shop menu. She wasn’t sure if people in this era would be used to it.

She had everything she needed in her space, and preparing these items was easier than dealing with noodles or flour. If she could handle the workload in the future, things like egg pancakes and youtiao, which could be packed and taken to-go, might be a good addition.

After thinking it over, she cooked a bowl of mini wontons too—Rong Jingchen had a big appetite, and this should be enough to fill him up!

“Here, see if this is enough,” Ye Muqi said. “If not, I’ll make you more.”

“It’s enough, it’s enough.”

Honestly, it was almost like feeding a pig.

Ye Muqi had a piece of the egg pancake herself and drank half a cup of milk before starting to prepare more side dishes.

In addition to the three dishes she made yesterday, she added braised beef today. It would be priced 20 cents higher since beef was more expensive, but it tasted better than pork.

She also stewed a pot of braised eggs to sell at the shop, unsure how well they would do.

“I’ll clean up. Let’s wash everything together after I’m done.” Ye Muqi said as Rong Jingchen came in to wash the dishes. She pointed to the side.

The kitchen was filled with mouth-watering smells. Rong Jingchen couldn’t help but glance around several times.

“Take some braised eggs with you. If the food at the canteen isn’t good at noon, you can have them as a snack.” Ye Muqi packed six braised eggs and handed them to Rong Jingchen.

Braised eggs could be eaten cold, unlike the side dishes that needed reheating—otherwise, she would’ve let him bring those too.

“Alright.” Rong Jingchen accepted the eggs and headed out.

As soon as he arrived at the base, he ran into Yu Jianguo.

“Political Commissar Yu,” Rong Jingchen nodded and greeted him.

He was about to go train the troops but was stopped by Yu Jianguo.

“Xiao Rong, you lucky kid! You found yourself such a great wife—beautiful and a great cook!” Yu Jianguo said with envy. “The food she made was absolutely delicious.”

Even after a day had passed, Yu Jianguo still missed the taste from yesterday. While speaking, his eyes kept drifting toward the braised eggs Rong Jingchen was holding.

This must’ve been prepared by that pretty little lady, right?

He had already eaten breakfast, but the smell was making him hungry again.

“How do you know?” Rong Jingchen asked, puzzled.

People like Lin Zihua and Yin Daquan had seen Ye Muqi and probably spread the word about her looks, but no one should know about her cooking yet.

“Well, I went into town yesterday morning on business and happened to run into your wife. I ate breakfast at her shop… Tsk, the taste was amazing,” Yu Jianguo said. “With a wife like that, what were you thinking, only bringing her over now?”

If it were him and his wife could cook like that, he would’ve brought her to the base’s family quarters ages ago—eating delicious food every day!

“…” Rong Jingchen didn’t want to talk about family matters. “Family reasons.”

Yu Jianguo gave him a look but didn’t press further since he clearly didn’t want to explain.

Before leaving, Yu Jianguo shamelessly asked for one of the braised eggs, which he happily took away.

Rong Jingchen: “…”

Since when did the commissar become such a foodie?

“Captain, I heard our sister-in-law opened a breakfast shop in town?” Just as Yu Jianguo left, Chen Hong appeared.

The moment he saw Rong Jingchen, he rushed over, curious.

He also caught a whiff of the fragrance around Rong Jingchen and subconsciously glanced at what he was holding.

Having just lost one braised egg to Yu Jianguo, Rong Jingchen immediately hid the remaining ones behind his back.

This guy better not be eyeing his eggs too!

These were from his little wife!

He had just found out from Yu Jianguo that he’d eaten breakfast at Ye Muqi’s shop—but from Chen Hong’s question, it seemed Chen had known even earlier?

“I heard sister-in-law’s cooking is amazing. Why didn’t you tell us about the breakfast shop? We could’ve gone to support her too, right?” Chen Hong said excitedly, noticing Rong Jingchen’s displeased expression.

Lin Zihua was right—Rong Jingchen really was stingy. He saw clearly there were just a few eggs, but the guy still had to hide them?

But it really did smell amazing. Chen Hong now believed the rumors—his wife truly had a gift for cooking.

Since Rong Jingchen didn’t want to share, now that they knew where she worked, they could just visit the breakfast shop themselves and try those supposedly incredible noodles.

Best of both worlds!

Rong Jingchen shot Chen Hong a cold look. After so many years in the army, this was the first time he realized just how noisy and gossipy Chen Hong was.

“You want extra drills?” Rong Jingchen didn’t answer, just narrowed his eyes and asked.

“N-no, not at all…”

Captain, you’re really hard to talk to!
