Chapter 44: The Man with Hidden Talents
In the dimly lit room, a translucent jade bracelet hung from Wan’s wrist, resting against Nanchuan’s body.
As they were both lost in their thoughts, the jade bracelet swayed, emitting a faint glow.
It was like a white light, yet it held a dazzling array of colors.
Meanwhile, in the Lingbao Space, a vibrant rainbow appeared in the normally cloudless sky, where spring reigned eternal.
Xiao Tuanzi, who had been happily munching on a juicy peach, suddenly felt the fluctuations of spiritual energy in the space. It was like a powerful gust of wind, violently impacting the space, causing the once stable magnetic field to crumble and collapse.
Xiao Tuanzi was completely caught off guard. The peach in her hand dropped to the ground with a soft thud, its sweet juice spilling out.
She had been in this Lingbao Space for thousands of years, and this was the first time she had encountered such a phenomenon. It was a change she had never witnessed before.
Frowning in contemplation, she looked up and saw the rainbow hovering in the air.
It was a real rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. All seven colors were present.
It was so beautiful! Truly beautiful!
Xiao Tuanzi had only read about rainbows in books, described as beautiful, dazzling, and uplifting. She had never seen one in person.
Now, a semicircular rainbow hung in the sky, adorned with wispy white clouds. It was so beautiful that it was almost impossible to look away.
This scene was truly magical!
Xiao Tuanzi was too engrossed in the beauty before her to even think about why the Lingbao Space was undergoing such a change.
She was completely captivated.
She gently moved her hand, and without getting up, a string of red cherries, plucked from a branch, appeared in her palm.
Each one was a deep, mature red, round and adorable, with sparkling, crystal-clear water droplets clinging to their surface.
Xiao Tuanzi ate the cherries while admiring the beautiful scenery. She would definitely tell her master about this when she saw her next.
As she was enjoying herself, she suddenly heard voices from outside the world entering the Lingbao Space.
It was a man’s voice, filled with intense disbelief, as if he had discovered an incredible secret.
A woman’s voice replied. Xiao Tuanzi recognized it instantly. It was her master, Wan’s voice.
But unlike her usual gentle and soothing voice, which made people feel like they were bathed in spring breezes, today her voice sounded urgent, as if she had just run an 800-meter race.
They seemed to be talking about something, but it was muffled, and Xiao Tuanzi couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Soon, the voices faded away. Xiao Tuanzi didn’t pay much attention because she couldn’t understand what was being said.
The Lingbao Space became serene and peaceful once again. The sound of the Spirit Spring Creek flowing gently, the rustling of leaves in the breeze… and now, the beautiful and dazzling rainbow.
Xiao Tuanzi took a bite of a sweet cherry with a satisfying crunch. It was delicious!
…
Wan had been sleeping for a long, long time. So long that she was a bit disoriented, losing track of time and the passage of day and night.
She only felt a warm, comfortable sensation throughout her body.
It was a long, restful sleep. One she didn’t want to wake up from.
After a long time, her thick, long eyelashes fluttered gently. Wan slowly opened her eyes, adjusting to the surrounding light. Her gaze fell on the familiar objects in the corner of the room.
Suddenly, all the events that had transpired flooded back into her mind like a tide.
Her normally fair cheeks flushed a deep red. She really had been incredibly bold.
She hadn’t been tricked or set up, but from the moment she saw Nanchuan, she knew he was worried about her. Yet, she played along, pretending to be tricked, leading to all the events that followed.
But at this moment, the sparkle in Wan’s eyes revealed that she had never regretted doing so.
Along with her memories, Wan felt a sense of incongruity throughout her body.
She was so tired. Even lying still, she felt exhausted. Let alone moving her limbs.
She couldn’t imagine having the strength to get out of bed at this moment.
Under these circumstances, she couldn’t help but sigh again.
He truly was the male lead of a novel.
His standards were beyond those of ordinary people. Even if something defied logic, it could still exist in this world.
It was just her who was suffering…
Wan’s mind raced with thoughts, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Just then, she heard a familiar, magnetic voice.
“You’re awake?”
Nanchuan had been in the room the whole time, as if he had been waiting for Wan to wake up. He had been busy with something, working in a corner of the room with a light on and a flashlight.
The strong light had disturbed Wan’s sleep, so he had been facing away from her. But the man seemed to have eyes in the back of his head, because even though Wan had made no sound, he knew she was awake.
Nanchuan put down the tools in his hand and walked towards the bed, his tall figure approaching.
Wan watched him draw nearer, her blush lingering, but her eyes shining brighter.
“You’ve been asleep for so long. You must be hungry. I’ll go make you something to eat.”
Nanchuan said with concern.
Wan shook her head. She beckoned with her finger and whispered, “Ah Chuan, come closer.”
It was the first time she spoke after waking up. Her voice was a little hoarse, but her tone was cheerful and lively.
Nanchuan leaned forward slightly, moving closer to Wan.
Inch by inch.
He kept leaning closer until Wan nodded.
The distance between them shortened. Their shadows merged on the wall.
Finally, Wan reached out and hugged Nanchuan.
“Ah Chuan, let me hug you.”
As they embraced, Wan rubbed her cheek against the man’s strong chest, like a small animal seeking security.
She loved this feeling.
Nanchuan’s chest was always broad and warm, a place to lean on, a place to cuddle, a place to… be weak and act spoiled.
And for the man, how could he not love this small gesture from Wan?
Nanchuan stretched out his arms and pulled Wan into his embrace.
No words were needed.
At this moment, an atmosphere of intimacy enveloped them. It was sweeter than honey.
Wan and Nanchuan held each other for a few minutes, savoring this rare moment of warmth and sweetness.
Then,
Grrr…
Wan’s stomach rumbled with hunger. She hadn’t eaten all day, and she had used up so much energy. Her stomach was growling.
Nanchuan reluctantly released her.
“You lie down and rest. I’ll go make you a bowl of noodles and bring it in.”
“No, it’s uncomfortable lying down for so long. I want to get up and move around. I’ll go with you.”
Wan endured the discomfort and got out of bed to put on her clothes.
The room was filled with the sound of her dressing. Wan was lowering her head to button her clothes, her slender white fingers moving gently.
Just then, she heard a faint sound.
Tick-tock. Tick-tock.
It was a very soft sound. Even with Wan’s enhanced hearing, she could only barely hear it. This showed how quiet the sound was.
The tick-tock continued, like the sound of a pointer gently swaying.
But Nanchuan’s home was poor and bare. They didn’t even have a clock. They relied on the sunlight to tell time.
How could there be this sound?
Wan raised her head, her gaze filled with confusion, and followed the sound to where Nanchuan had been working.
It was…
It was a watch!
Or rather, it was a collection of old watches and disassembled watch parts. There were pointers, compasses, and many other things Wan had never seen before.
This scene felt like a replay of the old courtyard in the town, where Nanchuan had been repairing broken bicycles.
But now, Nanchuan was repairing and reassembling watches, meticulously processing them piece by piece, potentially creating a brand-new watch.
Wan suddenly remembered that when they left the courtyard, Zheng Kui had given Nanchuan a small bag. It wasn’t very big.
Now that she thought about it, those things must have been these watches.
“How do you know how to do this?!”
Wan’s eyes widened in astonishment, her disbelief evident.
This man was truly hiding his talents. He could actually repair intricate watches?!
