“Young master…” The doctor hesitated, “Last time, I gave you a simple check-up and already told you…”
“Check again.” Guan Ciyan interrupted the doctor’s words and said to Jian Yang, “The previous check-up wasn’t detailed enough. The equipment downstairs is not as advanced as here. Let’s check again so the doctor can make a proper judgment.”
Jian Yang took a couple of breaths and swallowed, but didn’t speak, only nodding.
He knew this was just his inner struggle, but a little struggle was good—just in case.
The doctor exchanged glances with the attendant, and the attendant immediately came over. “Young master, this way please.”
Jian Yang stiffly stood up, and after a two-second pause, Guan Ciyan stood up as well, holding his hand without letting go. “I’ll go with you.”
“It’s fine, I can go by myself…”
“I’ve said, I’ll stay with you today.”
Guan Ciyan accompanied him, and naturally, the doctor did as well. Only one person, Jian Yang, could enter the examination room, and Guan Ciyan squeezed his hand. “I’ll wait outside.”
“You go rest. I’ll find you after the check-up is done.” Jian Yang said this, but he didn’t let go of Guan Ciyan’s hand.
Guan Ciyan slowly pulled his hand out. “Call me if you need anything. I’ll hear you.”
Before entering the examination room, Jian Yang looked back at Guan Ciyan.
Guan Ciyan smiled at him, mouthing, “Don’t worry.”
The doctor was puzzled. What is their relationship???
Suddenly, Guan Ciyan’s expression darkened, his brows furrowing slightly in a menacing way. His sharp, narrow eyes, with their pointed corners, gave off a strong sense of danger. “What’s going on? What were you about to say?”
The doctor thought to himself: I was about to speak the truth.
“Does Mr. Guan still remember when I treated the young master’s whip wounds for the first time? I told you then that the young master’s body is weak, but he can endure a lot. It’s probably due to his physical condition—his immune system is weak, and he’s used to being sick all the time. His pain tolerance is higher than average.”
Guan Ciyan heard this with one ear, but at that time, Jian Yang was just a spy sent by Guan Jingyu, so he didn’t pay much attention. Later, Jian Yang didn’t show much discomfort, so he didn’t think about the issue further.
“Just answer my question directly, doctor. His eyes, what’s wrong?” Guan Ciyan never let anyone lead him off track, except for Jian Yang.
The doctor cursed inwardly. This is bad. He had to stay composed. “I’ve already reviewed the young master’s previous check-up records. There’s nothing wrong with his body.”
The doctor spoke gently, as if calming a critical patient, “The young master has a weak constitution, but his body is healthy. His eyes are naturally like this. When he was born, his liver was damaged, but his body has self-healed now. It’s just weaker than normal. It’s not considered a disease.”
Guan Ciyan tapped his watch with his fingertips. “So, what you mean is, it can’t be treated?”
The doctor slowly said, “Mr. Guan, the young master doesn’t have a disease.”
“Are we not waiting for the test results?”
“Although the equipment downstairs isn’t as advanced as upstairs, the results won’t be wrong.”
Guan Ciyan tapped his watch, and the doctor dared not breathe. Guan Ciyan wouldn’t go crazy or scream, demanding them to fix Jian Yang’s eyes. It was even more terrifying that he didn’t mention such unreasonable demands.
The doctor was nervous, afraid that Guan Ciyan would spend a fortune to form a special research group to find a way to treat Jian Yang’s eyes.
If he had to spend his whole life researching a problem with no solution, it would be better for Guan Ciyan to go crazy and fire him. That way, he could at least get compensation and find another job without problems.
But Jian Yang probably wouldn’t get the same treatment as Guan Ciyan’s mother, right? He probably wouldn’t have a special research team.
The doctor didn’t dare to look at Guan Ciyan, and every time the watch beeped, his heart trembled. The waiting process was long and torturous. The doctor used the excuse of going to the restroom to take two pills to calm his anxiety. Being Guan Ciyan’s private doctor required regular psychological counseling.
Not daring to delay any longer, the doctor took his medicine and quickly returned to the treatment room to wait with Guan Ciyan.
Jian Yang, wearing an eye mask, was led out by the attendant.
“Sister, how long do I need to wear this eye mask?”
Guan Ciyan’s gaze fell on the hands that were holding each other. When Jian Yang called her “sister,” the attendant’s face softened with a gentle smile. Looking at Jian Yang with affection, she spoke softly, “You only need to wear it for an hour. There’s an electromagnetic pad inside, which will make your eyes feel better.”
Jian Yang’s hand groped in the air, suddenly deprived of vision. Even though he knew it was a normal check-up, he still felt uneasy during the action.
Guan Ciyan stepped in front of Jian Yang, catching his hand that was groping in the air and pulling him into his embrace. Jian Yang was startled for a moment, but when he smelled the familiar scent, he softly called out, “Sir.”
Just like when he called “sister,” it was polite, with a touch of dependence.
Even though Guan Ciyan’s face was not pleasant, he patiently softened his voice, replying, “Hmm.”
With the response, Jian Yang naturally relaxed and stood closer to Guan Ciyan. His tense hand loosened, and Guan Ciyan took the attendant’s hand into his embrace as well.
“Sir, where is the doctor?”
“Over there.”
“Young master, I’m here.” The doctor immediately guided Jian Yang’s direction, “Is there any discomfort?”
“I’m fine, it just hurts a little here,” Jian Yang pointed to the area around his eyes. “But it’s okay, the attendant said this is a sign of improvement. I can endure it. What should I do next?”
All the treatments were just to relieve symptoms. The doctor didn’t have any real treatment plan.
The doctor answered, “Your eye function is normal, no need to…”
Guan Ciyan’s gaze intensified, and the doctor stopped, interpreting his expression. Word by word, he said, “Don’t worry, just continue with the treatment, there’s hope for recovery.”
Guan Ciyan lifted his chin.
The doctor immediately added, “There’s a very good chance!”
“Really?” Jian Yang, excited, smiled, but the movement caused pain around his eyes, and he gasped. He asked again, “Really? Can it recover?”
“Of course,” the doctor swallowed nervously under Guan Ciyan’s intense stare.
“But you haven’t seen the test results yet,” Jian Yang hesitated, “I’m not questioning you, it’s just… does the result not matter?”
“Ah…” The doctor turned his head, thinking for a moment, “This… it’s because I just reviewed your previous records and suddenly thought of something.”
“Oh, so do you need to think about it again?”
Guan Ciyan spoke from the side, “Are you planning to stand here and talk?”
“Alright, let’s go back to the treatment room,” the doctor led them back.
Jian Yang grabbed Guan Ciyan’s sleeve and took small steps forward. “Sir, can you stop teasing me now? I can’t see.”
His plea was so simple, his eyes covered by a white medical eye mask, his head tilted up as if he could still see.
Guan Ciyan always thought of Jian Yang as frail. Now, looking carefully, his cheeks had no flesh, his fingers were long and delicate, his shoulder bones broad, and although he seemed about 185 cm tall, he was only about 178 cm. His arms were limp, his waist was slender, showing no signs of exercise.
Not only frail, but his body didn’t even resemble that of an adult man.
Considering what the doctor had said about his congenital weakness, with extremely poor physical health, one could imagine the kind of life he must have lived in the Jian family.
Guan Ciyan gently pulled him closer. “When did I ever tease you?”
Jian Yang walked to the side of the wall, leaned against Guan Ciyan, one hand resting on the wall, and grew a bit stubborn. “You should ask when you haven’t teased me.”
His tone was complaining, but not really angry, as if it were the tantrum of a child, one that would pass after a nap.
Guan Ciyan took hold of the hand Jian Yang had placed on the wall and pulled him into an embrace, making Jian Yang lean fully against him. “Jian Yang, how old are you?”
“19, Sir.”
Guan Ciyan squeezed his arm. It was thin and soft, not yet fully developed. He sighed, “You’re still so young.”
Jian Yang had been particular about his body in his past life, and when he saw this elementary school-like body after crossing over, he was also dissatisfied. He stubbornly said, “I will grow taller!”
Guan Ciyan gently touched his scalp, his expression unreadable but amused, “No rush, you’ll grow slowly.”
Jian Yang couldn’t see his expression, not knowing whether Guan Ciyan was mocking him again. His tone sounded like he was comforting him.
In the treatment room, the doctor was busy fiddling with things, too afraid to look at Jian Yang, let alone at Guan Ciyan. Since they entered, Guan Ciyan had sat silently on the sofa, his face cold, holding Jian Yang’s hand.
The doctor felt a surge of nervousness: Please don’t tell me to come up with a treatment plan, I don’t have one, I really don’t!
Jian Yang had just gotten a reassuring answer from the doctor and felt more at ease, straining to listen to the sounds around him, afraid to rush or ask questions, quietly waiting for the doctor to finish his examination. After a while, he secretly asked Guan Ciyan, “Has the doctor finished looking at the test results?”
The doctor froze and looked up in panic.
Guan Ciyan glanced at the doctor and said softly, “He’s still thinking.”
“Weren’t you just saying it was easy to treat? Why is it taking so long?”
…The doctor was now wishing he had already decided where to bury himself.
Guan Ciyan continued, “They won’t take the little young master’s case lightly. It might need more time.”
The doctor quickly picked up the conversation, “Young master, there are still two test results pending. Once they’re ready, I’ll gather the other doctors for a meeting to discuss. Don’t worry.”
“Oh, thank you so much, I’m really grateful,” Jian Yang stood up and bowed deeply to the doctor. “I’ve seen many doctors before, but no one was willing to treat me.”
The doctor was so shocked he almost slipped off his chair, repeatedly glancing at Guan Ciyan. “It’s my honor, young master, you’re too, too polite.”
Guan Ciyan pulled Jian Yang back, and as Jian Yang half-bowed, he unexpectedly leaned into Guan Ciyan’s arms. He was immediately enveloped by the scent of the man, his entire breath system taken over by it. Jian Yang tried to stand straight, but Guan Ciyan’s hand circled the back of his neck and rested on his shoulder. His voice brushed past his ear. “Why are you bowing to him?”
“Get ready. In a few days, we’ll come back to see the treatment plan.”
This was directed at the doctor, and Jian Yang tugged at Guan Ciyan’s clothes. “Can you be a little more polite?”
Guan Ciyan’s high-end suit couldn’t be washed or ironed, and each one could only be worn once. Yet Jian Yang had already wrinkled it in three places within half a day.
The doctor sighed in relief, grateful that this formidable figure was leaving, at least for now.
Being supported by Guan Ciyan as they left, Jian Yang still felt the warmth of the eye mask, which was quite comfortable. “Sir, the doctor just said it can be treated, right? I didn’t misunderstand, did I?”
His tone was filled with doubt, but his face was full of hope.
“That’s right, it can be treated.”
Jian Yang happily let out a small sound of joy. “Sir, can we get into the car from the ground? I want to breathe the air right now.”
What was that sound? Guan Ciyan felt a twinge of dislike in his heart but quickly thought, He’s only 19, so it’s normal for him to be childish.
