Chapter 175: Why Are You Provoking Her?
Jiang Mi and Mr. Fu’s first keyword on their task card was “purple stone.”
Mr. Fu suggested, “We could start by asking the villagers where the purple stone is…”
“No need, I know,” Jiang Mi said, stepping forward with long strides.
Thanks to the meal she had invited the villagers to, Jiang Mi was quite popular in the village. The children, in particular, loved the pretty sister and often came over to her with flushed faces, chattering excitedly.
The children knew all sorts of village legends and gossip, including the story of the “purple stone” and a tale of a life-saving promise of love.
Legend has it that the ancestors of Shanyao Village saved a beautiful girl by the creek. The girl promised herself to the man, and they lived in love and devotion. One day, when the man learned that the girl was a sea fairy, he remained devoted. The girl was so touched that she cried, and her tears turned into the purple stone by the creek.
The villagers said that couples who made wishes in front of the purple stone would have lasting and unchanging love.
Jiang Mi found it interesting and had visited it with Gu Chuan before.
Since she had been there before, Jiang Mi knew the way. There was a main road leading straight to the purple stone, but it circled around half the mountain and was far.
Another path was a steep mountain trail, rough and uneven, but closer.
Comparing the two, Jiang Mi decisively chose the shorter mountain path.
After all, with limited time for tasks, the quicker, the better.
Jiang Mi turned back and looked at Mr. Fu, who was sitting in a wheelchair. “The mountain path is difficult. Mr. Fu, please wait here. I’ll go complete the task myself.”
Mr. Fu suppressed the gloom in his eyes and smiled gently. “Alright, thank you for your hard work.”
Jiang Mi didn’t respond to him and briskly started up the mountain, reaching the creek and finding the purple stone quickly.
The purple stone was smooth and shiny, likely from being touched by many hands. Reflected by the clear creek and lush trees, the purple color looked even deeper and more elegant.
Jiang Mi took a photo with it and found a new task card hidden behind it. This time, it didn’t have a keyword but a line of classical poetry—“The lush leaves show far-reaching grace, the affectionate wide leaves chase the autumn wind. The phoenix has long lost its resting place, and the horse still dreams of yesterday.”
Jiang Mi thought for a moment and then her eyes lit up. The phoenix roosts on the phoenix tree, and Shanyao Village had a century-old phoenix tree.
“I also know where the phoenix tree is. It’s in the deep forest. Mr. Fu…” Jiang Mi said, pretending to be troubled as she sighed, “It’s not convenient for him to go up the mountain. It’s better for him to wait here.”
Not quite reassured, the director, who had been following and observing Jiang Mi, weakly reminded her, “Sister Mi, this is a duo task. Is it okay to leave your partner behind?”
Jiang Mi raised an eyebrow and asked, “So, you want Mr. Fu to drag his disabled legs up the mountain?”
The director was taken aback, “Uh, um, what?”
Jiang Mi, from the perspective of a teammate, criticized him.
“Director, this is your fault. We all know Mr. Fu is disabled and should be given more care!”
“The mountain path is so rough, with loose stones and muddy ditches. If something goes wrong and Mr. Fu and his wheelchair roll down the mountain, the production team wouldn’t be able to compensate!”
“How can you only care about the show’s ratings and ignore the guests’ safety? We need to be a conscientious production team, a show with positive energy!”
“Caring for the disabled starts with me, understand?”
The director, overwhelmed by the criticisms, nodded quickly, “Understood, understood.”
Jiang Mi smiled, “Then why are you still standing there? Make way.”
“Oh, okay,” the director moved aside, and Jiang Mi continued up the mountain with the task card in hand.
[Sister Mi’s back radiates the brilliance of caring for the disabled!]
[Wow, the idea of climbing the mountain suddenly feels vivid.]
[So that’s why Sister Mi agreed so quickly to the grouping. Was she waiting here for this?]
[Haha, Mr. Fu is still waiting alone over there. Someone should tell him that his good teammate is carrying the whole team’s flag. Quite impressive.]
[Haha, as long as you sit still, the task can be perfectly completed. Mr. Fu is enjoying this too much, haha. I’m not gloating.]
[But Sister Mi is right. Mr. Fu can’t climb the mountain, should he really climb up?]
[The word ‘climb’ summarizes Mr. Fu’s entire life.]
As Jiang Mi happily completed her task alone, Mr. Fu finally grew impatient waiting.
Since the tasks were paired, they only had one camera person. Because Mr. Fu was sitting still and Jiang Mi was out completing the task, the camera naturally followed Jiang Mi.
As a result, Mr. Fu waited alone for half an hour with no one showing up.
Jiang Mi didn’t come back.
The production staff didn’t appear, and even the villagers didn’t pass by.
In the end, it was Gu Chuan and Chen Wanruo who happened to pass by while doing their task, and they discovered Mr. Fu.
When the couples were separated, the dynamics changed:
Seeing Gu Chuan and Chen Wanruo approach, Mr. Fu’s face darkened.
Gu Chuan looked around and, seeing Jiang Mi was absent, smirked and walked over, asking, “Just you?”
Mr. Fu forced a calm smile. “She went to the creek for the task. She was worried I might get hurt, so she asked me to wait here.”
Gu Chuan casually asked, “I remember your task keyword was purple stone.”
Mr. Fu remained silent.
Gu Chuan continued, “We went there a couple of days ago, taking the flat road on the east side of the mountain.”
Instantly, Mr. Fu’s expression darkened further, with veins bulging on the back of his hand resting on the wheelchair.
[Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen Gu Chuan so blatantly petty.]
[Mr. Fu’s face has been slapped hard. I almost feel sorry for him, haha.]
[Seriously, if you didn’t laugh so loudly, I might believe you.]
[So, Jiang Mi knew there was a flat road but deliberately didn’t take it, choosing the mountain path and leaving Mr. Fu behind. She even criticized Mr. Fu for being disabled. Isn’t Jiang Mi going too far!]
[If Mr. Fu hadn’t played games with the votes, Jiang Mi wouldn’t have deliberately abandoned him. Just saying, karma catches up with everyone.]
[The disabled comment is true. Mr. Fu’s legs are broken, and he can’t walk for life. If that’s not a disability, what is it?]
At this moment, the production staff also arrived and explained that Jiang Mi had gone up the mountain to find the phoenix tree.
Meanwhile, Jiang Mi had found the second keyword, the phoenix tree, and after taking a photo, she received the third task card—“bass fish” to the creek—and just happened to run into Gu Chuan and Chen Wanruo.
Chen Wanruo spotted Jiang Mi first and exclaimed, “Mi Mi!”
Gu Chuan turned at the sound and saw Jiang Mi coming down the mountain. He walked over and deliberately asked, “Why are you alone? Where’s your partner?”
Jiang Mi, unaware that Gu Chuan and Mr. Fu had met on the way, honestly replied, “His legs can’t handle climbing the mountain or crossing the creek, so I did the task alone.”
Gu Chuan asked naturally, “Hmm, that’s tough.”
Jiang Mi smiled a little happily, “Not tough, just unfortunate.”
Gu Chuan shrugged with a resigned smile.
Jiang Mi completed the third task, said goodbye to Gu Chuan and Chen Wanruo, and set off for the fourth task location.
On the way, she saw Mr. Fu waiting for her halfway.
Jiang Mi glanced at the director.
The director, feeling guilty, didn’t want to offend the main sponsor, but it was a duo task, with one part completed by Jiang Mi alone and another with a different male guest. In the end, they needed to include Mr. Fu, or it would be hard to justify.
When Mr. Fu saw Jiang Mi, his cold face showed a hint of a warm smile.
Jiang Mi said nothing and calmly said, “Let’s go.”
Mr. Fu followed in his wheelchair, and the two were silent for a while until Mr. Fu suddenly spoke, “You’ve changed a lot compared to before.”
Jiang Mi couldn’t be bothered to respond.
But Mr. Fu seemed nostalgic and continued.
“You used to be so soft, and you would tug on my sleeve and call me ‘big brother,’ always asking me to take you around…”
Mr. Fu said a lot and finally asked, “Mi Mi, are you planning to ignore me forever?”
Jiang Mi turned around, surprised. “You’re talking to me? Sorry, I had amnesia before and can’t remember things from when I was young.”
Actually, Jiang Mi wasn’t lying. After all, the past was the original host’s, and now she was Jiang Mi. She had no obligation to deal with the original host’s romantic entanglements from over a decade ago.
Mr. Fu’s words: “……..”
[Hahahahahaha. I’m really about to laugh myself crazy.]
[This is the ultimate level of amnesia—forgetting whatever you want whenever you want, and forgetting however you want.]
[I almost feel sorry for Mr. Fu. Why provoke her?]
With her amnesia, Jiang Mi enjoyed a quiet moment. Arriving at the task location, she quickly solved the puzzle and completed the task, wrapping up and heading home!
As Jiang Mi was about to leave, Mr. Fu called out to her again.
“Jiang Mi, there’s no need to be so defensive. I mean you no harm. The reason I used underhanded methods to team up with you this time is simply because I like you.”
His voice was deep and gentle.
Combined with his slightly fragile, handsome face, it really made one feel a twinge of sympathy, even wondering if Jiang Mi was being too heartless.
But Jiang Mi turned around, her gaze calm, cold, and even a bit disgusted.
“When you conspired with Bai Ruoruo to suppress me, you meant no harm?”
“When you deliberately bribed the Jiang family servants to spy on my privacy, you meant no harm?”
“When you tried to sabotage the show’s data and forced me to team up with you, you meant no harm?”
“Oh, maybe you really didn’t mean any harm, but we don’t know each other well. Don’t come to bother me.”
Mr. Fu’s face lowered slightly, his eyes darkened. “If I pursued you in the right way, would you fall in love with me?”
“No.” Jiang Mi’s voice was icy, and when she saw Gu Chuan, her tone brightened, “Gu Chuan, you’ve finished the task too!”
Gu Chuan responded with a “Mm,” and said, “Let’s go.”
“Okay.” Jiang Mi cheerfully walked over, completely putting Mr. Fu out of her mind.
Gu Chuan looked back at Mr. Fu, realizing he had overthought things. His Mi Mi would always love him and no one else.
The teams of Gu Chuan, Chen Wanruo, Jiang Mi, and Mr. Fu, due to the assistance from the big shots, managed to finish a full day’s worth of tasks in just an hour.
Thus, while the remaining three teams were still asking villagers for directions, struggling with puzzles, and going up and down the mountain and creek, the completed teams had nothing left to do.
Finally, with the director’s early hint, they returned to choose outfits, get styled, and wait for the evening’s confession night.
At seven in the evening, the guests arrived one by one.
By the time they arrived, many curious villagers had already gathered, invited by the show’s production to witness the confession night.
The square was decorated with beautiful wildflowers, with sporadic red roses in the center. A round confession stage was set up in the middle, with a flower-adorned archway behind it and colorful balloons surrounding it.
It was warm and romantic.
[Here it comes, the most exciting confession night is here.]
[This is the first time I’ve followed a dating show with such genuine feelings. Everyone, cheer on, and may they be together!]
[In other dating shows, it always feels like the couples are just for show. This one feels truly heartfelt.]
[Except for a few individuals, all the guests are adorable. Gu Chuan and Jiang Mi are locked in, and the captive CP is locked in too!]
[Gu Chuan and Jiang Mi, go for it, confess on the spot, and get married on the spot!]
