Chapter 179: Reaping the Consequences 2/2
Bai Ruoruo had acted hastily, with many flaws in her plan.
She had considered being more thorough but, given the urgency and her obsession with harming Jiang Mi, she had acted recklessly. She believed that eliminating Jiang Mi would make everything fall into place and she would remain the chosen one.
This led to ample evidence against her, including witness testimonies, physical evidence, and video footage.
It was clear that Bai Ruoruo had deliberately set up and framed Jiang Mi.
With a click, the silver handcuffs were locked around her wrists, their cold, white light biting through to her bones.
At this moment, Bai Ruoruo looked up at Jiang Mi, still in shock.
“No, no, this isn’t right. I’m the real victim. I was harmed! Why aren’t you arresting Jiang Mi? It’s all her fault!”
“Right, I understand now. She knew I was trying to harm her but pretended otherwise, eventually turning the tables and framing me. She’s the worst! Arrest her too!”
Some people couldn’t take it anymore. “You’re the one who was hurt, but you should blame the person who harmed you. Clinging to Jiang Mi and blaming her is ridiculous. Besides, Jiang Mi is the real victim here. You failed in your schemes and now blame her? Truly shameless!”
Despite the harsh criticism, Bai Ruoruo still didn’t reflect on her actions. “No, it’s not me. It’s all Jiang Mi. She’s rich and powerful, so why does she still target me and force me into a corner? It’s all her fault!”
“I was wrong for not seeing your true nature, for considering you a friend, and treating you genuinely, only to be repaid with betrayal!” Jiang Mi’s words were spoken on behalf of the original victim.
Bai Ruoruo was stunned, recalling their university days.
She had met Jiang Mi in college, where Jiang Mi was a bright and flamboyant young lady. She came from a good family, excelled academically, and was beautiful. Though she had a bit of a high-maintenance personality, she was genuinely generous and kind to Bai Ruoruo. Most importantly, Bai Ruoruo had never seen any contempt or disdain from Jiang Mi.
Jiang Mi had truly considered her a friend.
But how could that be?
Jiang Mi was from a privileged background; why would she be friends with someone poor like her?
It must have been that Jiang Mi wanted someone less accomplished to contrast with her.
As Bai Ruoruo’s jealousy and resentment grew, she wanted to climb higher and trample on Jiang Mi, taking everything Jiang Mi had.
Later, learning about Jiang Mi’s arranged marriage, Bai Ruoruo became even more determined. She couldn’t take Jiang Mi’s family background but the arranged marriage was within her reach.
From then on, Bai Ruoruo became increasingly adept at seizing what Jiang Mi had.
She had a premonition that after this variety show, she would finally push Jiang Mi into the dirt and her own future would shine even brighter!
But why did Jiang Mi have to stay clear-headed at this critical moment?
If only Jiang Mi had stayed foolish!
Blame Jiang Mi. It’s all Jiang Mi’s fault!
Bai Ruoruo screamed hoarsely, “You’re lying. You never treated me as a friend. You used me, treated me like a servant, humiliating and scolding me every day.”
But no matter how loudly Bai Ruoruo protested, no one was fooled. Everyone knew Jiang Mi’s character from their long working relationship. A top financial heiress who never flaunted her background or sought personal gain.
Conversely, Bai Ruoruo, driven by vanity, had stolen Jiang Mi’s wealthy young lady persona and repeatedly deceived Jiang Mi to gain resources.
And now, she was turning the tables—what a shameless act!
Jiang Mi looked at her with a detached gaze, a faint, indifferent smile on her lips.
Bai Ruoruo was jolted. This smile was the same one Jiang Mi used to give her—almost with pity and sympathy.
A surge of deep-seated inferiority and hatred filled Bai Ruoruo’s mind, and she charged at Jiang Mi with a hoarse scream.
But before she could get close, Jiang Mi kicked her away.
With a dull thud, Bai Ruoruo rolled on the ground like a ragged sack, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
Jiang Mi immediately said, “Police, this suspect attempted to harm me. I acted out of instinctive self-defense.”
Everyone’s expressions twitched. It seemed like a personal vendetta, but it was indeed self-defense.
The police took action swiftly and efficiently, leading Bai Ruoruo away.
With such a big incident, the villagers gathered to watch.
“How could such a beautiful girl have such a wicked heart? Truly heartless.”
“She looks so innocent, but her heart is dark. How could she come up with such a method to harm Mimi?”
“Indeed, she brought this on herself. Her schemes backfired, and she ended up in this situation. Plus, she even had relations with that beggar. I heard he has a dirty disease.”
“Yes, like HIV. It’s terrifying. They say you don’t live long once you have it.”
Bai Ruoruo wanted to say something, but as soon as she opened her mouth, blood choked in her throat, silencing her.
If only she hadn’t schemed against Jiang Mi but had genuinely been her friend, might things have turned out differently?
But in life, there are no “what ifs.”
One mistake leads to another.
The consequences awaiting Bai Ruoruo were not just imprisonment but also physical suffering.
Soon after Bai Ruoruo was incarcerated, a statement was quickly released online regarding the incident.
There was no choice; the events in the thatched cottage had been exposed all over the internet. Without a statement, controlling the situation was impossible.
“Bai Ruoruo didn’t look like a bad person, but who would have thought her intentions were so malicious!”
“Even though Mimi knew about Bai Ruoruo’s later dirty deeds, she didn’t resort to extreme measures against her. But Bai Ruoruo came up with such a sinister plan to harm Jiang Mi.”
“Bai Ruoruo is really good at pretending. Despite her viciousness, she managed to maintain the image of an innocent, naive little fairy for so long.”
“Fortunately, Mimi had good luck. She met Brother Chuan halfway and exposed the lies; otherwise…”
“Am I the only one who thinks Jiang Mi isn’t entirely innocent? She clearly knew what was happening but did nothing, just watched Bai Ruoruo being tainted by the old beggar.”
“The person above is mistaken. From beginning to end, this was Bai Ruoruo’s own scheme to harm others. She forced Jiang Mi to drink, manipulated others, and planned everything. What did Jiang Mi do? She was just lucky to avoid disaster, and now it’s her fault?”
“Exactly, the police have said that Bai Ruoruo was scheming and eventually reaped what she had sown.”
“Victim-blaming is not acceptable!”
