Chapter 26: Miss, Have You Had Enough Fun?
“You think he’s just a sworn brother, but in reality, he’s your lover.”
“No, that’s impossible! Shen Mingxuan personally admitted that Bai Ruoruo is his sister. He wouldn’t lie to me, no, he wouldn’t!” Zhao Xiaomin’s voice trembled, teetering on the brink of collapse.
Jiang Mi looked at her coldly. “Taking care of a ‘sworn sister’ so attentively that it lands them on a romance reality show? Do you really believe that?”
All the little details she had forcibly ignored now flooded Zhao Xiaomin’s mind. She slumped to the ground, her eyes vacant.
She had gambled everything, even her career and future, only to find out she had bet on her own rival?
Zhao Xiaomin clutched her head and let out a piercing scream, finally breaking down completely.
Chen Xing, repulsed by Zhao Xiaomin’s hysterical behavior, kicked her aside and then turned to Jiang Mi with a sycophantic smile.
ish
“Mimi, I truly wronged you this time. Don’t worry, I’ll arrange the best resources for you immediately as compensation.”
Jiang Mi’s gaze held a smile, but it never reached her eyes, sending a chill through those who saw it.
Despite his years of navigating the treacherous waters of the business world, the old fox found himself feeling uneasy, as if this young woman had seen right through him.
While he genuinely didn’t know about Zhao Xiaomin’s betrayal, he was well aware of the efforts to suppress Jiang Mi. After all, she was an unattractive, plain, and talentless actress—naturally deserving of such treatment. But who could have imagined that Jiang Mi would turn out to be so stunning once she lifted her bangs? With her recent surge in popularity from the reality show, coupled with her magnetic, stormy personality, he saw her as a potential cash cow. The best part? She had no backing and had been mistreated by her agent. Now, if he gave her a few resources, she’d be deeply grateful, and then he could trick her into signing an exclusive contract, ensuring massive profits. Even if she didn’t become a star, he could still offer her to some powerful figures as a trade for resources. A seductive beauty like her—what man could resist?
Suddenly, a cold and murderous aura engulfed him, causing Chen Xing’s heart to lurch. Trembling, he glanced at the man beside Jiang Mi and immediately felt his blood freeze.
The man’s gaze was cruel and vicious, like that of a lone wolf tearing into its prey in the dead of night, reducing its victim to a quivering mess with just a single glance.
At that moment, Jiang Mi’s cold voice rang out, “Ha, you can keep those resources for someone else.”
Chen Xing dared not meet Gu Chuan’s gaze any longer, but inwardly reassured himself: no matter what, this man was just a bodyguard. How could one man possibly take on a dozen of his guards?
With this thought, Chen Xing regained some confidence. “What do you mean by that?”
“I mean…” Jiang Mi drew out her words, “I think the resources from a company that exploits its artists and forces them to accompany clients are filthy.”
Chen Xing’s face darkened. In this industry, power-for-favors exchanges were an accepted yet unspoken rule. But if such matters were ever brought to light…
“Shut up! Jiang Mi, I really misjudged you. A little fame has gone to your head, and now you’re spewing nonsense!” he roared righteously before lowering his voice to threaten her. “Don’t forget you still have two years left on your contract. If you say anything wrong, I’ll make sure you never see the light of day in this industry again!”
Jiang Mi smiled. “I’ll return those words to you.”
Chen Xing frowned, about to retort, when a team of smartly dressed lawyers approached, one of them speaking respectfully, “Miss.”
It was Zhao Heng, the chief legal officer of the Jiang Corporation.
Chen Xing’s pupils contracted as he watched the scene unfold. Who exactly was Jiang Mi?
Jiang Mi turned slightly and smiled. “I forgot to mention, Jiang Feng is my father.”
It was cliché, but relying on one’s father really did feel good.
Chen Xing stumbled backward in shock, slamming into the golden marble pillar behind him. How could Jiang Mi be the daughter of the Jiang Corporation?
Jiang Mi’s eyes sparkled as she said, “Thank you for your hard work, Lawyer Zhao.”
Zhao Heng smiled. “It’s my duty to assist Miss.”
Given Zhao Heng’s status in the legal world, he didn’t need to be this “respectful.” His actions were purely to show his support.
Jiang Mi’s smile grew wider, but in the next moment, Gu Chuan’s tall and imposing figure stepped in front of her. “Miss, have you had enough fun?”
It was the same question as before, though this time, there was no hint of indulgent helplessness. Instead, it carried a sour note of hostility.
“Enough…” Jiang Mi began, but before she could finish her sentence, Gu Chuan’s arm wrapped around her waist.
His arm was firm and scorching.
Startled, she looked up, only to see his thin, tightly pressed lips.
In the next second, he tightened his grip around her waist, nodding slightly at Zhao Heng.
Zhao Heng’s dark eyes deepened, his expression unreadable.
After they exited the company building, Gu Chuan released her. But the next moment, Jiang Mi took his hand and placed it back on her slender waist, soft and pliable.
Under the sunlight, her peach blossom eyes shimmered with tenderness and affection.
Her drawn-out tone was laced with playful flirtation, both coy and charming.
“Brother, does my waist feel soft?”
Through the thin fabric, the curve of her waist fit perfectly into his palm, as if it had been custom-made.
His large palm caressed her, clearly feeling her soft and delicate skin.
Like an enchanting spirit who could steal a man’s soul.
Gu Chuan’s fingers lingered, his breathing slightly labored. “It’s alright.”
Jiang Mi’s smile faltered. Irritated, she flung his hand away, then reached for his lower back, pinching it slightly as if appraising him. “Oh, also alright.”
Gu Chuan chuckled softly. “As long as Miss is satisfied.”
Jiang Mi looked up and accidentally locked eyes with his deep, unfathomable gaze. Startled, she quickly turned her face away.
Was it just her imagination, or had Gu Chuan suddenly become… seductive?
Meanwhile, Bai Ruoruo received devastating news.
“What do you mean, they backed out of signing the contract today?” Bai Ruoruo glared at her agent, Kong Fanxing, with a sharp look.
Kong Fanxing responded irritably, “You should ask yourself that. The director specifically said you couldn’t pull off the crazy beautiful woman role.”
Kong Fanxing had always thought Bai Ruoruo was ill-suited for the role. However, Bai Ruoruo insisted that she needed to reinvent herself and that continuously playing innocent characters would lead to audience fatigue. After securing “Deep Palace” by herself, Kong Fanxing had nothing more to say.
But who could have predicted that the production team would suddenly change their minds, canceling the contract signing and harshly criticizing her in the process?
Especially with Bai Ruoruo looking at her as if it was her incompetence that had led to this failure—it really got under her skin.
Bai Ruoruo’s voice turned venomous. “So who got the role, Jiang Mi?”
The role had originally been assigned to Jiang Mi. Bai Ruoruo had tricked Jiang Mi into thinking she wasn’t right for it and then enlisted Shen Mingxuan’s help to secure it for herself. After all the effort, it was infuriating to lose it now!
“They didn’t say, but it’s probably her.” Unaware of the full story, Kong Fanxing continued to stand up for Bai Ruoruo. “It’s a shame she was ever your friend. Stealing your man, your role, and even bullying you on the show—she doesn’t deserve to be called a friend!”
Bai Ruoruo put on a pitiful face. “Fanxing, please don’t say that. Mimi isn’t like that. There must be some misunderstanding.”
Kong Fanxing rolled her eyes. “There’s no misunderstanding, just you being foolish. I can’t stand people like Jiang Mi. Just wait—I won’t let her off easily.”
Bai Ruoruo made a show of trying to calm Kong Fanxing down, but her attempts only fueled Kong’s anger further. Afterward, Kong Fanxing went to see Shen Mingxuan.
She wasn’t ready to give up on that role, and when it came to dealing with Jiang Mi, only Shen Mingxuan would do.
