With Yang Xun’s investment, coupled with the sponsorship of Liang Jiayan, Lao He, and others, Suihuan Hall’s reach continued to expand. Beyond Ning City and Jing City, their influence now extended to other cities as well.
Feng Jiu proved to be a true talent. In just a few months, he managed to organize and manage Suihuan Hall both inside and out with remarkable efficiency, offering numerous reasonable and effective suggestions. With him around, Meng Suihuan found herself much more at ease and spent more time at home.
When she was busy, her mind was entirely occupied with work. But the moment she had time to herself, certain thoughts would inevitably surface. To that end, she deliberately pulled out a lace-trimmed nightgown she had purchased earlier.
The nightgown was a loose-fit style, so even with her pregnancy, she could still wear it. Looking at herself in the mirror, she noticed that after passing the morning sickness phase, her appetite had improved, her face had become rounder, and the lace trim on her chest now appeared fuller than before.
When Lu Linshen returned home, as usual, she went to kiss him. But as the kiss deepened, her hands started to wander restlessly.
Lu Linshen grabbed her hands firmly. “Stop moving, Suisui.”
But was she the type to obediently listen? Just because he said “stop” didn’t mean she would. Absolutely not!
Lu Linshen had no choice but to hold her hands, using a tone as gentle as possible despite his restraint. “Suisui, be good. Stop messing around.”
Meng Suihuan pouted and retorted, “I’m not messing around. I’m just overwhelmed by my emotions.”
Before he had come home, she had already been thinking about him, and the more she thought, the more restless she became. That’s why, as soon as he walked through the door, she pounced on him like a hungry wolf.
Moving closer to him, she began unbuttoning his shirt, one button at a time, her voice soft and enticing, like a hook. “Lu Linshen, I missed you. I want you.”
For the past few nights, he had been holding her as she slept, enduring her occasional cuddling and playful gestures—it had all been a form of torment for him. And now, with her saying she missed him while undoing his buttons, his restraint was being pushed to its limits.
But the doctor’s warnings were still fresh in his mind. Worried, he said, “Suisui, we can’t. It might hurt the baby.”
“It won’t hurt,” she argued, biting her lip. “The doctor said we couldn’t be intimate for the first three months, but I’m almost four months along now. It’ll be fine.”
Seeing that he was still unmoved, Meng Suihuan bit her lip again, then shed her thick coat to reveal the lace-trimmed nightgown underneath.
“Lu Linshen.”
“Hubby~~”
“I feel so uncomfortable… Please help me, okay?”
Lu Linshen’s already wavering self-control was completely shattered. Hearing her call him “hubby” in such an enticing tone, coupled with the fact that the woman in front of him was someone he loved to his very core, he acted swiftly. He pulled her open coat back together and fastened it in place.
Meng Suihuan thought she had failed and was already considering switching tactics when she suddenly heard him say, “If you feel any discomfort later, let me know immediately.”
Her eyes lit up instantly. He was agreeing!
“Okay!”
Every move Lu Linshen made was careful and measured. After every slight advance, he would pause to ask her how she felt, if there was any discomfort. Through repeated attempts and adjustments, the two of them finally succeeded in experiencing each other’s presence once again.
This time, things were different. Meng Suihuan realized she had become much more sensitive. Every action of his seemed to send her soul soaring out of her body—something she had only experienced at the peak before. Now, she felt it early and consistently.
The sensation overwhelmed her, and she couldn’t help but let out a soft hum. Hearing the sound, Lu Linshen stopped immediately, concerned. “Suisui, are you feeling uncomfortable?”
“No, hubby, don’t worry. I just… felt really good. It’s been so long since I’ve felt this way.”
Hearing this, Lu Linshen finally relaxed a little.
After the intimacy, both were deeply satisfied. However, Meng Suihuan wasn’t content and tried to persuade him to go for another round. But Lu Linshen refused firmly.
“Only once, Suisui. We can’t risk hurting the baby.”
Unwilling to give up, she pressed, “Then what about tomorrow?”
Lu Linshen: “…”
“No. Too often isn’t good. Once a month, twice at most.”
Having just experienced bliss, Meng Suihuan couldn’t accept such a low frequency. She grabbed his hand and negotiated persistently. After a lengthy discussion, she managed to double the number—four times a month.
Satisfied, she drifted off to sleep. But the more she slept, the clearer her mind became. Suddenly, she realized: she had been tricked by Lu Linshen! No doubt about it—he had set her up!
—
At six months pregnant, Meng Suihuan went for a prenatal check-up. She noticed many people wearing masks, and the surrounding doctors and nurses were sighing about the sudden surge in patients this year, leaving hospitals overwhelmed.
A memory struck her. In 2002, there had been a nationwide outbreak of a devastating illness. It had come suddenly and spread rapidly, lasting a long time. In that era of limited medical resources, many people lost their lives in this disaster.
Although she hadn’t experienced it personally, she had watched documentaries and disaster footage in the 21st century. Now, there was still over a year before the disease fully broke out.
By then, would she still be with Lu Linshen? With their child? She wasn’t sure. She didn’t dare to think too much about it.
During this time, she occasionally checked the progress of her situation, but it always ended in disappointment. She hadn’t shared her thoughts with Lu Linshen, but she guessed he was just as uneasy as she was. Afraid of losing her, yet not daring to show it for fear of upsetting her.
She understood but didn’t know how to respond—because she herself didn’t know what the outcome would be.
At least for now, she carried their baby in her womb. Even if she weren’t around in the future, she would leave him with a source of hope.
“What are you thinking about?”
Her gaze landed on a spot in the distance. “I overheard the doctors saying there’s been a massive surge in patients this year. The hospitals are struggling to keep up. I was wondering if there’s any way to ease the situation.”
Lu Linshen wrapped his arms around her protectively. “The lack of medical resources is not something that can be solved quickly. The only way is to expand facilities or set up additional medical teams to relieve the pressure.”
Meng Suihuan smiled lightly. “That’s what I was thinking, too.”
Now that Suihuan Hall was steadily progressing, it was the perfect time to expand into other areas. To invest in healthcare, the funds she had available would suffice for small-scale efforts. But to prepare for the looming disease, she needed much more.
“Don’t worry, Suisui. You have me. I’ll help however I can.”
His company was now on track, and its newly launched engine had garnered considerable attention both domestically and internationally. However, the company had spent years recruiting tech talent and investing heavily in research and development.
“If I need help, you’ll be the first person I turn to. You’re my strongest support, Lu Linshen.”
“Still, this isn’t something we can handle alone. What we can do is limited. I want to expand the scale and help more people who need it.”
She didn’t mention the 2002 disease to him, as this was a world within a book. She wasn’t sure if events would play out the same way as they had in her reality.
She was doing all this purely as a precaution.
No matter how capable or wealthy a person might be, there are always limits. To achieve her goals quickly, she needed partners. With this in mind, she approached Yang Xun again.
“Mr. Yang, I have another collaboration idea to discuss with you.”
Yang Xun: “…”
That familiar opening line. This woman was trying to ask him for money again, wasn’t she? Last time, she had spun him in circles and somehow convinced him to donate a huge sum of money. He’d felt the sting of that decision for over a month. And now, she was trying the same trick.
He wasn’t falling for it this time!
“Ms. Meng, don’t even think about using the same tactic on me twice!”
Meng Suihuan chuckled. “Mr. Yang, you’re being too formal. When have I ever tricked you? Wasn’t our last collaboration a friendly partnership? And I delivered on all my promises. Now, not only do the people at Suihuan Hall appreciate you, but everyone you helped remembers your kindness.”
“Mr. Yang, your name carries weight these days!”
Yang Xun: “…”
He’d have to be crazy to believe her!
After hanging up the phone, Yang Xun suddenly realized—had he just been tricked by her again? And this time, it wasn’t just about donating money. No, this time, she had roped in Shoucheng Group to co-invest in a medical project with her!
How had he gotten so caught up in the moment that he agreed to help her negotiate this deal?
In addition to Yang Xun, Meng Suihuan also reached out to Chen from Feiyun Group and Liang Jiayan. Since it was a significant investment, Liang Jiayan didn’t give her an immediate answer, saying he needed time to think it over. As for Chen, he declined outright, stating that Feiyun Group had no plans to venture into this field at the moment.
These outcomes didn’t surprise her—she had anticipated them beforehand. If necessary, she would start small on her own. When the disease outbreak eventually came, even a little help would be better than none.
However, Yang Xun brought some good news: his father had agreed, and the project could move forward. Soon after, positive news also came from Liang Jiayan.
She had contacted quite a few people about this project, but in the end, only Shoucheng Group and Liang Jiayan agreed to participate. This wasn’t unexpected—businesspeople are profit-driven, and medical investments rarely generate quick returns. In fact, they often result in losses, so few were willing to take the risk.
Because of her pregnancy, Meng Suihuan entrusted the organization of the medical team and research efforts to Liang Jiayan while assigning other miscellaneous tasks to Yang Xun.
When Yang Xun learned of this, he confronted her. Why was Liang Jiayan, also an investor, given such an important role, while he was stuck handling trivial matters?
His words made her realize her bias. She had subconsciously assumed he was too careless and unreliable, so she had assigned him only easy and simple tasks from the start.
But as he said, he had invested money too. Why should he be relegated to minor responsibilities while Liang Jiayan took charge of the entire project?
“Mr. Yang, in that case, I’ll leave the task of organizing the medical team to you.”
Recognizing her mistake, Meng Suihuan immediately corrected it.
Yang Xun, who had been indignant moments ago, was instantly appeased. He stared at her in disbelief, nervously swallowing. “Are you sure you’re entrusting something so important to me?”
“You’re not worried I’ll mess it up?”
Meng Suihuan chuckled. “Mr. Yang, has anyone ever succeeded at something on their first try? Success comes from learning lessons through failure, step by step.”
“I believe you can do it too.”
If you doubt someone, don’t use them; if you use someone, don’t doubt them. Having entrusted the task to Yang Xun, she refrained from interfering too much.
However, Yang Xun did seek her advice several times. She didn’t hold back and shared her thoughts and insights. But ultimately, it was up to Yang Xun to make the final decisions.
On the other hand, Liang Jiayan was more reliable and had his own ideas. All she needed to do was exchange opinions with him, leaving the rest in his capable hands. After all, her belly was growing larger, and her energy was becoming increasingly limited.
The first time she felt the baby move, it gave both her and Lu Linshen a fright. Excited, she invited Lu Linshen to lie on her belly and feel the “fetal movement.” The two of them ended up laughing like fools.
After that, Lu Linshen made it a daily routine to talk to their child through her belly, always speaking with extraordinary patience. In the future, he would undoubtedly be a gentle and caring father.
During her pregnancy, Old He introduced her to a few more projects. This time, instead of forcing herself to take on everything, she evaluated the options carefully and chose just one.
“I’ll leave the remaining opportunities for others,” she said.
Somewhere along the way, she had begun to leave room in everything she did.
At nine months pregnant, Lu Linshen had already prepared all the necessary items for the delivery well in advance. Every day, he would check in with her to make sure she wasn’t feeling unwell.
“Don’t worry. The doctor said we still have half a month until the due date,” she reassured him.
At the start of her pregnancy, she had been incredibly anxious. But now, as the delivery date approached, she was surprisingly calm.
Who could’ve guessed that as soon as she said that, she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen? She immediately grabbed his hand.
“Lu Linshen, my stomach hurts…”
Fortunately, with Lu Xiuhe’s prior experience as a reference, Lu Linshen had already prepared for every eventuality. Over the past two months, he had even arranged for a driver and a caretaker aunt to be on standby.
A group of them hurried to the hospital, and while Meng Suihuan was in the delivery room, Lu Linshen paced back and forth outside. He could hear the heart-wrenching screams from inside, the doctors’ methodical instructions, and Lu Xiuhe’s soothing reassurances.
It was his first time anxiously waiting outside a delivery room. He was nervous, panicked, and utterly helpless.
When he overheard the doctor mention excessive bleeding and the risk of complications, his mind went blank. Without hesitation, his eyes red with determination, he charged forward and firmly chose to prioritize the mother.
Thankfully, it turned out to be a false alarm. Even so, his back was drenched in cold sweat.
Meng Suihuan gave birth to a daughter—a soft, pink little bundle. She asked Lu Linshen to bring the baby to her for a look.
The little one was asleep, her tiny hands clenched, sleeping soundly and looking adorable.
Gazing at the doll-like baby, Meng Suihuan whispered softly in her heart, My precious, welcome to this world.
There seemed to be an inexplicable, magical connection between mother and child. As soon as she silently finished her thought, the baby started crying, as if responding to her in her own way.
Happiness often arrives quietly.
While she was silently conversing with her baby, a familiar mechanical voice echoed in her mind:
“Congratulations, Host, on completing the task in this transmigration mission—”
Boom.
In that moment, it felt as if all the surrounding sounds had been muted, leaving only the cold, mechanical voice echoing around her. Stunned, shocked, surprised, and moved to tears—her emotions were a whirlwind. She couldn’t hold back and began crying and laughing at the same time, her body trembling uncontrollably until she fainted.
Her sudden collapse startled everyone around her. The doctor immediately checked her condition, while Lu Linshen was so panicked that he didn’t know what to do. Grasping her hand tightly, he called her name over and over again.
She tried to respond, but the sounds around her grew fainter and fainter until they vanished completely.
“Lu Linshen…”
When she finally woke up, she softly called his name, eager to share the incredible news with him.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she said his name, she was enveloped in his firm yet warm embrace.
“Suisui, you scared me to death. You just scared me to death…” His voice was choked with sobs, a mix of relief and lingering fear.
Lu Linshen had always been strong and reliable in front of her, never showing a fragile side. Yet now, he seemed as delicate as a bubble—ready to burst at the slightest touch. It was clear her sudden collapse had terrified him.
“It’s okay now, it’s okay. I just got too emotional,” she said, returning his embrace and gently patting his back to comfort him. Once he had calmed down, she leaned close to his ear and playfully whispered, “Lu Linshen, I have some great news to tell you.”
He played along and asked, “What great news?”
“I’ve completed my mission.”
“I can stay here forever and grow old with you!”
Before sharing this, she had tried to imagine how Lu Linshen would react—maybe he’d be overjoyed and kiss her passionately, or he’d be so thrilled he’d be at a loss for words, or perhaps he’d be stunned into dazed silence by the sheer weight of the news.
But none of those scenarios happened.
Lu Linshen cried. He cried loudly, tears of pure happiness streaming down his face. His cries were so loud that they drew the attention of the nearby doctors and Lu Xiuhe, who thought something had gone wrong again.
“…”
Fortunately, it was just a false alarm. However, both of them received a stern lecture from the doctor.
Once everyone had left, Meng Suihuan couldn’t hold back her laughter any longer and burst out laughing.
Lu Linshen quickly covered her mouth, his face red with embarrassment. “Suisui, stop laughing. I’m dying of shame here.”
“It’s okay. I was embarrassed too,” she replied.
The two of them looked at each other and smiled, their faces radiating happiness.
Yes, they had embarrassed themselves and made a bit of a scene, but what did it matter? They had a long, long life ahead of them, and this moment of embarrassment was insignificant—nothing worth worrying about in the vast river of time they would share together.
