The Supporting Female’s Guide to Surviving the Rivalry Hell Chapter 15

Chapter 15: The Fifteenth Day After Transmigration – I Will Live Well…

Yun Shuning stood at the doorway. Though she stood straight, anyone could tell how weak she was.

Her complexion was deathly pale, and her lips had no trace of color. She looked as though she was sculpted from snow.

She blinked tiredly. “President Yu, President He, is there something you need from me?”

“Actually—”

“What, can’t we come see you without a reason?” Yu Cheng interrupted before He Chen could finish. Looking at her, so fragile like she could shatter at a touch, he suddenly felt a strange frustration boil up. His tone was mocking, as if he were here to collect a debt.

“President Yu, if you have no business here, then please leave,” He Chen took two steps forward, blocking Yu Cheng’s view of Yun Shuning. “The Yu Corporation’s affairs are endless. You should get back to work.”

“I’d say the one who should be busy is you, President He,” Yu Cheng stepped forward as well, meeting his gaze directly. “After all, I don’t have a girlfriend. Unlike President He, who still has to carve out time each day for his significant other.”

“Take your time chatting,” Yun Shuning’s voice was soft and slow. She ignored the farcical drama playing out and just wanted to return to her room alone.

“Wait—” Seeing her about to close the door, Yu Cheng quickly propped it open with his hand, blurting out, “I’m feeling a bit unwell today. Come to the hospital with me.”

He really wasn’t cut out for comforting others. Words that came from his mouth somehow always sounded infuriating, even though everyone knew his excuse was clearly a clumsy way to get Yun Shuning to see a doctor.

“Miss Yun, you look very weak right now. Do you need me to take you to the hospital?” When He Chen said almost the same thing, it felt much more considerate and gentle.

Yun Shuning had thought He Chen would send a secretary or assistant, not come himself. It seemed that her identity as He Yan’s widow really did matter to him.

She could understand why He Chen had come. But Yu Cheng? Shouldn’t he be entangled with the female lead right now?

Regardless of what she thought, her expression remained unchanged. “I’m fine. Thank you for your concern.”

Turning to Yu Cheng, she calmly added, “Please take care of your health, President Yu.”

It was an unbothered response to his earlier claim about feeling unwell.

“What have you been doing since yesterday afternoon?” Yu Cheng frowned, pressing harder on the door as if interrogating her.

Even without her answering, the signs were obvious.

Slightly messy hair, faint red marks on her face, a hoarse voice…

“Don’t tell me you’ve been sleeping this entire time?” His frown deepened, his voice tinged with a hint of anger.

Hearing his words, He Chen frowned and pushed Yu Cheng aside. Looking at Yun Shuning, his voice turned gentle and respectful:

“Miss Yun, I’ve reserved a table tomorrow at my uncle’s favorite restaurant. I’ve also had the chef prepare all his favorite dishes…”

Sure enough, the mention of He Yan brought light back into Yun Shuning’s eyes. The heavy air around her seemed to lift.

Yu Cheng, who had been shoved aside, saw her expression and clenched his teeth furiously. The He family is as sly as ever.

“Miss Yun, would you be willing to join me tomorrow at Ruiming Pavilion? Let’s go and taste the dishes my uncle loved most.”

He really is a skilled negotiator, Yun Shuning thought. He was good at identifying a person’s weakness and using it to his advantage.

She’d have to be even more cautious around him in the future.

“Is that alright?” For a moment, it seemed like she had found a reason to keep going. Even her voice carried a trace of warmth.

“Of course,” He Chen replied, tone especially gentle. “But before that, we should have you checked out. Would that be okay?”

“Mm.” Yun Shuning nodded softly.

Yu Cheng had been sulking quietly this whole time. But when he heard her response, he finally spoke: “I’ve already arranged everything. Can we do a blood test?”

“Yes.”

Her obedient answer made his anger surge uncontrollably: She’s really something.

She actually didn’t eat or drink anything for this long.

What a capable woman—earth is clearly too small for her!

He conveniently forgot that once, after going three days without food or water, he ended up being dragged to the hospital for an IV drip.

“Let’s go.” He gave a cold snort and started walking ahead.

After a few steps, he turned back, clearly annoyed, and shoved He Chen aside. “Where’s your coat? Isn’t it cold wearing so little?”

He Chen glanced at the flimsy clothes Yu Cheng was wearing—like someone living in springtime—and held back the urge to make a snide remark. Instead, he turned his head and looked at Yun Shuning gently. “Miss Yun, do you need any help?”

Yun Shuning shook her head slightly and slowly walked to the entryway to put on her coat. “Sorry to trouble you both.”

She walked slowly, step by step. Yu Cheng matched her pace, following closely behind, his eyes fixed on her, nervous and alert.

She looked so weak now, like she could faint at any moment.

He Chen walked beside her, maintaining a safe distance. He had noticed that whenever he got too close, her body would involuntarily tense up.

As she walked, Yun Shuning’s mind was working at full speed.

Something was off about both He Chen and Yu Cheng.

She could understand the initial probing, but what were they doing now?

Especially Yu Cheng—he wasn’t bothering the female lead anymore and was instead circling around her. Could it be…?

Surely he didn’t like her, right?

Probably not. She couldn’t see affection in his eyes. What she saw was more like obsession and unwillingness.

Maybe the fact that she had loved someone so deeply and unconditionally had really shaken him.

No matter what, from now on she needed to keep her distance from both of them.

The original novel’s image of Yu Cheng’s madness kept flashing in her mind.

Right now, the only thing she could do was cling tightly to her persona of being madly in love with He Yan. She had no desire to get involved in the love story of the female lead.

After a check-up, it turned out that aside from some weakness due to not having eaten for a long time, there wasn’t anything seriously wrong with her body.

While in the hospital, both Yu Cheng and He Chen kept watch over her, practically forcing her to drink a bowl of plain congee before they allowed her to go home.

Back at home, Yun Shuning sat on the couch, looking helpless.

She really didn’t like plain congee—two hundred yuan a bowl or not. It had no flavor, yet they insisted she finish the whole thing.

Like the original Yun Shuning, she preferred bold, flavorful food. Drinking an entire bowl of plain congee was torture.

But after today’s ordeal, her stomach did feel a lot better.

She needed to prepare herself. Tomorrow would be another battle.

The next day at noon, she arrived at Rui Ming Xuan at the agreed-upon time.

Inside the private room, He Chen and Yu Cheng were sitting across from each other, staring each other down, sparks practically flying.

“President He seems to have plenty of time on his hands. Why not spend more of it with your girlfriend?”

“I may not be as idle as President Yu, but there are some things that have to be done, aren’t there?”

“Are you talking about paying respects to elders?” Yu Cheng leaned back in his chair with a mocking smile. “As far as I know, you’ve never been as attentive to your own parents as you are to your little aunt.”

He Chen had one quality—good or bad, depending on how you saw it—he would never mock someone else’s parents or loved ones. So when faced with Yu Cheng’s jab, all he could do was give a cold smile.

“Miss, this is Biyan Pavilion,” a waiter’s voice came faintly from outside the door.

Upon hearing this, the two men silently retracted their aggressive auras.

The door opened, and Yun Shuning appeared at the entrance.

She looked better today than she had yesterday. Her lips weren’t as pale anymore.

After the three sat down, the dishes were brought out one by one.

Just from looking at the food, you could tell how picky He Yan was—his diet was extremely light.

He liked dishes that brought out the original flavor of the ingredients, which was the complete opposite of her taste.

After the food was served, she didn’t say a word. She just ate one bite at a time, mechanically and clumsily.

The biggest challenge in her acting right now was suppressing the urge to blurt out her praise.

It was so delicious. Now she completely understood why He Yan loved these dishes.

If it weren’t for maintaining her character persona, she would have devoured everything in sight.

She was fighting with all her might against basic human instincts.

After trying a bit of every dish, she put down her chopsticks, lowered her head to compose her emotions, and then spoke. Her tone sounded like a mix of wistfulness and despair.

“It’s completely different from the person I remembered.”

She looked up, her eyes shimmering with tears. Her expression seemed like a smile, but was filled with sorrow.

“I never knew he liked this kind of food…”

Her voice was slightly hoarse, her eyes full of longing and guilt.

“I used to think he didn’t love me that much. Maybe I was just there at the right time.” At this, she let out a mocking laugh, as if disgusted with the person she used to be.

“I grew up living under someone else’s roof, an extremely insecure person.”

She took a deep breath, swallowing the lump in her throat. “When I was with him, I never accepted any gifts from him. I never dared to stay in any expensive places, afraid that our relationship would be tainted by other things.”

Tears began to fall from her eyes, one drop after another.

“I was like a clown, carefully holding onto our fragile relationship. I didn’t dare to do anything—not even look him in the eyes without using all my courage.”

“You…” He Chen opened his mouth but didn’t know how to comfort her.

Yun Shuning wiped away all her tears and looked up with a smile that might be called content. “I never knew he actually cared about me.”

She didn’t know if it was love, but everything he had done now moved her deeply.

“My uncle wouldn’t want to see you like this either,” He Chen said dryly as he looked at her.

“I know.” Her tears hadn’t stopped the entire time. She reached up to wipe her face again. “Thank you for telling me all of this, and thank you for bringing me here.”

She turned her head and looked toward the door. This was something she’d learned from her research—under the sunlight, tilting her head slightly and lifting her chin exposed the fragile curve of her neck and her delicate profile. It was one of the best poses to show her weakness and beauty.

“I’ll live well… with him in my heart.”

He Chen looked at her and understood what she meant.

This wasn’t letting go, nor was it giving up. It was choosing to remember someone forever.

Yu Cheng stared blankly at Yun Shuning’s profile. From the moment she walked in, he hadn’t said a word.

Only now did he finally understand what he had been feeling all along.

He was jealous—so jealous it was driving him mad.

He also wanted a love that transcended life and death. He wanted someone who would remember him forever.

That might be the most humble, yet most cherished desire of a lonely person.
