Chapter 6: The Sixth Day After Transmigration — First Encounter with Yu Cheng
The midday sunlight poured warmly into the bedroom, making the person lying on the bed feel drowsy.
Yun Shuning put down the phone in her hand, raised one hand to her forehead to block the blinding sunlight.
Before transmigrating into the book, she had spent every day rushing between different film crews, humbly performing in front of directors, just for the chance to play a role so minor it could barely be called a part.
She had no family background, no wealth, and was unwilling to compromise with capital, so all she could do was move forward step by step without stopping.
After arriving in this world, because she had resolved the biggest crisis left by the original host, she finally had the leisure to enjoy life like a normal person.
The original host was someone who disliked sharing her life online, which saved her a lot of trouble.
As a former actress, she deeply understood how troublesome it could be when inappropriate remarks were dug up by others.
Her thoughts wandered aimlessly, and the expression on her face was relaxed and at ease.
“Seems like it’s time to eat.” Yun Shuning sat up and stretched.
When living alone, life naturally became irregular. Waking up at ten in the morning and sleeping after midnight had become her norm.
While washing up, she looked at the reflection in the mirror and nodded in satisfaction.
Because of her irregular eating and sleeping patterns over the past few days, she looked much thinner now, and her complexion was an unhealthy pale.
Fortunately, this body was naturally beautiful. No matter how she mistreated it, it never appeared messy or disheveled. Instead, she just looked slightly sickly, making her seem even more fragile and delicate.
Someone who had lost her beloved and could no longer find meaning in life—this was exactly how she should appear.
She raised her hand and saw her overly slender wrist, looking like it could break with just a bit of force.
Tomorrow was the day she would visit the He family. This state was just right. Although He Chen had agreed to try not to see her, she still needed to be prepared for any unexpected situations.
She had to be flawless in order to survive in this world.
Yun Shuning casually walked to the refrigerator, wanting to see what she could eat today.
…
The fridge was as empty as it could be. Only a single bottle of mineral water stood there, looking lonely, as if mocking her.
She clenched her teeth, grabbed the water bottle, and closed the fridge door.
She was always extremely cautious in all aspects. Fearing that He Chen might be monitoring her, she hadn’t ordered any takeout or gone out these past few days—perfectly presenting the image of a grief-stricken person.
After acting for so many days, she didn’t want to ruin it at the last moment.
After finishing the water, she lazily placed the bottle on the table and picked up her phone, planning to continue deepening her understanding of this world.
This place wasn’t much different from her original world—just some names she needed to memorize carefully.
Looking at the photo displayed on her phone, Yun Shuning closed her eyes helplessly.
Yu Cheng, the second male lead in the novel, was like a madman. He was the illegitimate son of the Yu family’s head and had always been bullied. When he was a child, the female lead gave him an umbrella in the rain, and he remembered it for over ten years.
The one who got her transferred from prison to a mental hospital—was him.
She shut off her phone with a bit of relief. Fortunately, none of that had happened yet. Yu Cheng… hopefully, he wouldn’t come after her again?
Meanwhile, Yu Cheng, whom she was thinking about, was leisurely sitting on a sofa. Because he disliked sunlight, the curtains in his office were drawn tightly, making the whole room dark and gloomy.
He wore a dark red, thin sweater and looked with interest at Secretary Ming, who was standing to the side giving a report.
Secretary Ming had a wooden expression. Thankfully, he had memorized the content of the report to near perfection, because under this kind of lighting, trying to read the documents would definitely worsen his nearsightedness.
“This is Yu Corporation’s weekly work report, and these are the documents that need your signature,” he said while placing a thick stack of files on the table in front of Yu Cheng, maintaining a polite and professional smile.
Yu Cheng glanced at the documents, his expression unchanged. “How did that task I gave you last time go?”
Hearing this question, Secretary Ming took a deep breath and reminded himself not to get angry.
A few days ago, Yu Cheng, on a whim, decided to pursue someone new. Among the suggestions Ming had given, he stubbornly insisted on using the “hero saves the beauty” approach—and in a particularly violent manner. Ming had spent over an hour that day educating him on criminal law. His mouth was practically worn out before he finally convinced him to back down—at least partially.
Yu Cheng was definitely getting revenge now. Revenge on him, and on Yun Shuning.
Ming was lucky to know a bit of the inside story. It seemed that this Miss Yun and Miss Lin… didn’t have a very good relationship.
“According to your instructions, we were to arrange for someone to block Miss Yun Shuning on a road she frequently takes and then rescue her in a timely manner,” Secretary Ming rephrased his words more pleasantly. “But Miss Yun doesn’t have any place she goes to regularly.”
“She doesn’t go anywhere regularly? Does she not leave the house at all?” Yu Cheng lazily closed his eyes and spoke carelessly. “She can’t possibly be holed up indoors entirely, right?”
“President Yu, you’re truly insightful.” Secretary Ming smiled with forced politeness. “Miss Yun really hasn’t gone out at all in the past five days.”
“Is she dead?”
“Probably not yet.”
Yu Cheng leaned back on the sofa, his eyes showing a rare hint of curiosity. “In what kind of situation would someone stay inside for so many days without stepping out?”
“Perhaps…” Secretary Ming looked at him and exercised his dry humor. “Hibernation?”
“Heh.”
“According to Miss Yun’s purchase history, she had almost no groceries before this week. And over the past five days, there have been no records of food purchases or ordering delivery.” Secretary Ming looked puzzled. After learning she hadn’t left the house for days, he had someone investigate her shopping history.
According to the records, the food she had would barely last two days, yet for some reason, she had managed not to go out for five.
However, he also had someone check her apartment’s electricity usage. Though it was minimal, it confirmed that the occupant was still alive.
Yu Cheng glanced at him coldly. There was a time when he had been like that too.
That was when he first learned Lin Wan and He Chen were together. He had shut himself in, wallowing in despair, not wanting to do anything—only wishing he could sleep forever.
After all, he had met her first.
Forget it. He was free anyway. He might as well go see what kind of person this Yun Shuning really was.
“President Yu, where are you going?” Secretary Ming noticed his movement and rushed over to stop him, looking devastated. “You still have documents to deal with!”
“You take care of them,” Yu Cheng said, patting his shoulder with a light laugh.
Secretary Ming followed him out of the office. The sunlight outside was dazzling, shining on Yu Cheng’s overly thin figure and the cold sweat on his neck.
He was momentarily stunned, then frowned. “President Yu, is your stomach acting up again?”
Yu Cheng didn’t even turn his head and kept walking.
“Remember to wear a coat.” Secretary Ming quickly returned to the office to grab Yu Cheng’s coat, but by the time he came back out, Yu Cheng was already gone.
He sighed and jogged to the elevator. After some chasing, all he saw was Yu Cheng’s car exhaust.
“You didn’t even ask me for Miss Yun’s address,” he mumbled lifelessly while holding the coat.
Just then, he suddenly received a text message: “Address.”
He gritted his teeth, barely holding back the urge to beat up his boss, and sent over the address.
…
Yun Shuning sat on the sofa, her body covered in a layer of cold sweat from the pain.
She reached out to clutch her cramping stomach, full of regret. If she had known, she wouldn’t have drunk that bottle of ice-cold mineral water.
She curled up into a ball, the pain clouding her consciousness.
When she had been in He Yan’s room, she chose to endure it because she knew He Chen was outside. If he noticed she had been in the room too long, he would definitely come check on her.
Now that she was alone, if she passed out from the pain, the consequences could be serious.
Thinking of this, she stood up and walked toward the entryway.
Given her current character setting, if she went to the hospital on her own in order to fulfill tomorrow’s appointment smoothly, it would still make sense.
As she thought this, she put on her still-thin coat and changed her shoes.
Yun Shuning stood up straight, enduring the stomach pain, and her expression quickly shifted to calm and desolate.
She took a deep breath and, with trembling hands, opened the door.
Yu Cheng was still holding his hand up in the act of knocking when the door suddenly opened. His eyes showed a rare flicker of surprise.
The hallway light spilled over both of them, and for a moment, it was hard to tell who looked more like the patient.
