Chapter 22: Jinling City
After finishing the task, Wu Shaochen quickly returned to the novice village and handed over the magic core to the village chief. “Village chief, here is the magic core of the Silver Wolf King you requested.”
The village chief, looking at the magic core in Wu Shaochen’s hand, was excited. “This is amazing! With this, we can repair the teleportation array to Jinling City. This novice village has been sealed for too many years. Adventurer, thank you for your contribution to the village. Here is your reward.”
“Ding, mission completed, you have earned the title [Hero of the Novice Village]. Do you want to equip it?”
“Equip,” Wu Shaochen responded and then checked the title attributes.
[Hero of the Novice Village]: Awarded for completing the teleportation array repair mission. Only one person per novice village can receive this title. Attributes: Luck +10.
Well, is that it? Luck isn’t something you can see or touch, it’s not as useful as something practical, Wu Shaochen muttered. However, he thought about it and decided it wasn’t too bad. Besides, luck was a rare attribute. Currently, the only thing adding to his luck was the necklace he had, which gave +3 luck. Other than affecting the drop rate when fighting monsters, it likely influenced all things probability-based. It was considered a premium attribute.
At this moment, the village chief fiddled with a circular pattern at the village entrance. After a few minutes, the pattern suddenly lit up with white light, and the village chief’s face showed a joyful expression.
Just then, a system announcement echoed throughout the 8365 players in the novice village.
System Announcement: “Player Chenfeng has helped the village chief repair the teleportation array. All players in this novice village who reach level 10 can now directly teleport to Jinling City.”
“Ah, so repairing the teleportation array was a prerequisite for teleporting to Jinling City?”
“Looks like it. The system just said so. I wonder if it’s troublesome.”
“Who cares if it’s troublesome? A big shot already helped us fix it. Once we hit level 10, we can teleport to Jinling City and change our class. Ah, this is like resting under the big tree.”
“Well said!”
While all 8365 novice village players were admiring the big tree, they didn’t think much of it, assuming it wouldn’t be too hard. At this point, Su Muxue remembered asking Chenfeng why he didn’t go to Jinling City when he was level 10, and he had said that he couldn’t. Turns out it was because the teleportation array needed repairing.
After thinking for a moment, she couldn’t help but send a message: “What did you have to do to repair the teleportation array?”
A moment later, the reply came: “Kill the Silver Wolf King!”
…
Su Muxue was stunned for a while, then thought, “Is it really just because you had to kill the Silver Wolf King to repair the teleportation array? And then you went and killed the Silver Wolf King?”
She didn’t know how to feel about it. However, she thought that if other novice villages didn’t have a monster like Chenfeng, the Silver Wolf King would definitely block players for a long time. This was a huge benefit Chenfeng had brought to the entire 8365.
Thinking of this, Su Muxue’s eyes brightened. Currently, she had two pieces of Black Iron-grade equipment, and she was probably the second strongest player in the entire novice village, aside from Chenfeng. This gave her a massive advantage.
“Uncle Liu, tell everyone to drop whatever they’re doing and focus on leveling up. We need to hit level 10 as quickly as possible. We must be the first to reach Jinling City.” Su Muxue instructed.
“Understood, Miss. I’ll notify them right away.” Uncle Liu responded without hesitation.
After the village chief repaired the teleportation array, he returned to Wu Shaochen and said, “Adventurer, the teleportation array is repaired. Do you want to teleport to Jinling City now?”
“Yes,” Wu Shaochen replied.
“Please stand in the circle and choose the Jinling City you want to teleport to. As the hero of the novice village, your teleportation is free this time.” The village chief said.
There were 8 level 2 Jinling Cities and 4 level 1 Jinling Cities in the game. Novice villages could only teleport to the level 2 Jinling Cities. Players could teleport to the level 1 cities after reaching level 100.
After standing in the circle, a system prompt appeared:
“Please choose the city you wish to teleport to.” The 8 level 2 Jinling Cities were displayed: Qiushui City, Bai Ze City, Ju Lu City, Feng Yong City, Huangsha City, Mo Bei City, Ji Bing City, Jinling City.
Wu Shaochen randomly chose Jinling City, since it didn’t matter which city he went to. It was just a matter of different environments. Every city had its own characteristics. For example, Bai Ze City and Qiushui City were coastal cities, while Huangsha City and Mo Bei City were desert cities. Ji Bing City was located near glaciers. But with teleportation arrays between cities, the choice didn’t matter.
A burst of light flashed, and his surroundings became blurry. Soon, the scenery cleared up again, and Wu Shaochen found himself in a huge city filled with ancient-style buildings, winding streets, and high walls. It felt like he had time-traveled.
“Wow, this is magnificent. This old novice village can’t compare.” Wu Shaochen was in awe as he looked around. There were NPCs strolling in the streets, and occasionally, a patrolling NPC guard passed by. Not a single player in sight.
“First, let’s change my class.” Wu Shaochen didn’t forget the reason he rushed to Jinling City. He headed straight toward the city center. He was about to ask an NPC for directions when he looked up and saw a large building standing in the center of the city with the words “Class Change Hall” displayed. Without asking, he knew this was the place to change his class.
Inside the Class Change Hall, Wu Shaochen saw six class instructors standing there:
After a moment of consideration, Wu Shaochen finally walked up to the assassin instructor. Unfortunately, his talent for ranged attacks couldn’t be triggered, so choosing the archer class wasn’t an option. Since he couldn’t go for the archer, his only choices were the warrior, shield warrior, and assassin. As a kite-type player, Wu Shaochen chose the assassin class, with the highest agility attribute.
“Instructor, I want to change to the assassin class,” Wu Shaochen politely said.
“Adventurer, your choice is wise. The assassin is the fastest and most explosive class, the king of darkness, feared by all…”
“Adventurer, don’t listen to her nonsense. Assassins only bully squishy mages and archers. If they encounter us warriors, we’ll chop them down with two strikes. You should change to a warrior class,” the warrior instructor interjected.
“Adventurer, don’t you think it’s better to choose the shield warrior class? That little assassin won’t last long against wild beasts. With a shield warrior, you just stand there and no beasts will dare to bite you.” The shield warrior instructor also chimed in.
Seeing that the other instructors were all trying to persuade him, Wu Shaochen quickly said, “Thank you, instructors, for your advice. But I have already decided to become an assassin.”
Hearing this, the other instructors could only sigh. It wasn’t easy to get an adventurer, so they said more than they should. Normally, they wouldn’t interfere with a player’s decision.
