Chapter 26: Silver Wolf
Five minutes later, the three goblins fell to the ground simultaneously.
“System Notification: Killed 3 Goblins. Experience gained: 540. As it’s a level-overkill, extra experience: 270.”
“System Notification: Talent triggered. Poison damage increased by 3 points. Current poison damage: 26.”
“System Notification: Immortal Body effect triggered. Maximum health increased by 3 points. Immortal Body boosts maximum health by 3.”
Listening to the system notifications, Wu Shaochen felt quite pleased.
The talent and Immortal Body stats increase over time, meaning the more monsters he kills, the stronger he becomes. However, the experience for killing monsters above his level is a bit high. For one monster, it’s 270 points, meaning only a hundred or so monsters would level him up. It’s all happening too quickly.
“Right, how did I forget about this?” Wu Shaochen suddenly remembered the pet egg in his backpack. Pets need to gain experience from players.
He didn’t need the pet to fight, just a little experience would do, which would prevent his level from rising too quickly.
With that in mind, Wu Shaochen quickly took the Silver Wolf King pet egg from his backpack and followed the system’s prompt to hatch it.
A flash of light, and the pet egg in his hands disappeared. A small wolf cub, about the size of a puppy, appeared at his feet, nuzzling against his pant leg. A pet hatched by the player would automatically recognize them as its master.
“System Notification: Hatching successful. Obtained Silver Wolf King Cub. Aptitude: A. Please name it.”
Looking at the silver-haired cub, Wu Shaochen thought for a moment and then named it, “Silver Taiwolf.”
“System Notification: Name set successfully.”
He checked the attributes of the Silver Taiwolf.
Silver Taiwolf Pet
Hmm, its attributes are stronger than that of the rabbit pet. No wonder wolves eat rabbits. Pets, aside from their innate skills, can learn a new skill every 20 levels.
He continued fighting goblins with the cub. Watching it eagerly ready to pounce, Wu Shaochen quickly commanded, “Stay back and soak up some experience. With those tiny legs of yours, you’d be knocked out in one hit.”
The Silver Taiwolf obediently hid behind.
“Quite obedient,” Wu Shaochen remarked as he continued hunting. With Silver Taiwolf gaining 20% experience, he could level up his talents and Immortal Body more efficiently.
At this moment, after grinding for a while, Wu Shaochen finally reached level 10. Excited, he went to find the village elder to be transported to the main city, only to be told he needed to repair the teleportation array by killing the Silver Wolf King. Suddenly, he felt lost.
Meanwhile, players from all over the village had also hit level 10 and encountered the same problem.
They gathered their forces to fight the Silver Wolf King, only to be wiped out. Soon, the forum was filled with frantic posts.
One post titled “Terrifying Silver Wolf King: The Obstacle of Xianshou Village” was pinned to the top.
The post’s content summarized: “In order to leave Xianshou Village, we must kill the Silver Wolf King, but its power is nearly limitless. With 200,000 health, 550 attack, and massive AoE damage that ignores defense, it also summons minions, making it a nightmare for players. Yet, we have no choice but to fight. We’re now asking for strategies from @Chen Feng.”
The comments were flooded with @Chen Feng, which was a big deal for all the players now that it directly impacted their progress in the game.
At the same time, the Xianshou Village regional chat was buzzing.
“Damn, we have to kill the Silver Wolf King to fix the teleportation array? This is way too hard!”
“Yeah, I saw its stats online, and I’m sure I’d be killed just by getting close.”
“How did Chen Feng manage to kill that beast?”
“Yeah, I’m curious. But I’m just happy that once we hit level 10, we can go straight to the main city. We’ll have a huge advantage!”
“Yeah, thanks to Chen Feng, he’s amazing!”
“Thanks, Chen Feng! You’re the best!”
“Jinlin, how close are you to leveling up?” Nan Feng asked. They had been working together, with Jun Lin leading the group, so the others had been letting him collect kills to ensure he got the first job reward.
“Almost there, 90% done. Another half hour at most,” Jun Lin replied.
“Haha, we really owe Chen Feng, otherwise we wouldn’t be so close to first place,” Xiao Bei joked.
“True. This game is crazy. I didn’t expect so many players to be level 10 already. Definitely should thank him,” Jun Lin added seriously.
At this point, Wu Shaochen received a private message from Su Muxue:
Xue’er: “Aren’t you browsing the forum?”
“I check it occasionally when I’m offline to eat,” Wu Shaochen replied.
Xue’er: “Offline? Doesn’t the nutritional liquid keep your body nourished for 3 days?”
“Can’t afford it,” Wu Shaochen responded curtly.
Xue’er: “You’re playing with a game helmet, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” Wu Shaochen asked.
At this moment, Su Muxue, who was grinding the Silver Wolf nearby, stared in disbelief at the chat messages. He was playing with a game helmet and was still ahead of everyone else. How did he manage that?
Chen Feng: “What’s up, beauty?”
Su Muxue snapped out of her thoughts and replied: “Nothing. A lot of people are looking for you on the forum. You should check it out when you can.”
Chen Feng: “I don’t feel like logging off right now.”
“…You can access the forum directly in the game. Who told you to log off?” Su Muxue rolled her eyes.
Chen Feng: “Oh, let me check it out.”
“By the way, which main city are you in?” Su Muxue asked.
Chen Feng: “What’s it to you? We’re already friends, and now you’re asking if I have other motives?”
Su Muxue was so angry that she closed the chat window and raised her weapon to attack the Silver Wolf.
Standing beside her, Liu Shu looked on with confusion. He noticed that Miss had been acting strangely lately, but he didn’t say anything and just watched.
A while later, Su Muxue received another private message from Chen Feng: “Jinlin City.” Seeing this message, a smile appeared at the corner of Su Muxue’s mouth as she glanced at her 85% experience. Still some grinding left.
After replying to Chen Feng, Wu Shaochen found the forum interface inside the game. Upon entering, he saw countless notifications tagging him. When he used to browse the forum on his phone, he was just a guest and never saw these. Now, linked to his game ID, these notifications were overwhelming.
Wu Shaochen glanced through the posts and saw that many players were stuck in Xianshou Village. He didn’t want to get involved, but after thinking about it, he decided to leave a comment in the thread: “Go complain to the village elder!”
Since it wasn’t a big secret, he figured it’d be a good deed, saving these players from constantly suspecting he was cheating or that officials were investigating him. How the situation turned out would depend on their resources. Aside from quick-recovery potions, there were also potions to boost attack, health, and speed, which would greatly help them in tackling the Silver Wolf King—though they were pricey. Wu Shaochen couldn’t help but smirk as he thought about it.
His comment stirred up a frenzy.
“Damn, the master replied!”
“Is this real? I thought this ID was just a myth. Turns out it’s real.”
“Chen Feng is real, finally! We’ve seen him reply!”
“But what did the master mean by his comment?”
“Looks like he’s giving us a strategy. If you’ve taken the quest, hurry up and try it!”
