Chapter 27: Job Change Announcement
Wu Shaochen browsed the forum for a while but didn’t find anything that caught his interest, so he exited the forum interface and continued farming monsters. After a while, the server-wide notification sounded.
“Server-wide Announcement: Congratulations to player Junlin for successfully changing to the Archer class. As the first player to change to the Archer profession, the system rewards you with 500 reputation, 20 gold, and one skill book. This is an official announcement!”
“Huh, someone changed class? Wasn’t it supposed to be impossible to defeat the Silver Wolf King? Could it be from my old village?” Wu Shaochen wondered to himself. Speaking of which, this is the first time someone other than me has appeared on the server-wide announcements. Finally, someone else is taking the hate for me.
Just after that announcement, another one rang out ten minutes later.
“Server-wide Announcement: Congratulations to player Xueer for successfully changing to the Mage class. As the first player to change to the Mage profession, the system rewards you with 500 reputation, 20 gold, and one skill book. This is an official announcement!”
“This girl is impressive!” Wu Shaochen was a bit surprised. Even though the teleportation array in his old village was repaired, only a few players had reached level 10 by this time. To be the first to change to Mage proves her strength.
Not long after, another announcement rang.
“Server-wide Announcement: Congratulations to player Jiao Wo Huang Shao for successfully changing to the Warrior class. As the first player to change to the Warrior profession, the system rewards you with 500 reputation, 20 gold, and one skill book. This is an official announcement!”
Hearing the continuous announcements, Wu Shaochen touched his nose and muttered, “Maybe I should charge them a teleportation fee.”
Meanwhile, other players in his old village were envious.
“Ah! Why wasn’t I born in the same village as the God of Dust Seal?”
“This is so discouraging! We struggled to defeat the Silver Wolf King while they just picked up the rewards.”
“Sigh, it’s infuriating to see people getting everything so easily!”
At this moment, the Ao Shi Qun Xiong guild, guided by Wu Shaochen, spent a lot of money to buy many potions. They were now fighting the Silver Wolf King with all their might. With the help of 30% HP potions and instant-heal potions, the battle stabilized. Though it cost money, they had almost bought up all the currency available in the old village, pushing the price of copper coins up to 2 silver per coin.
Apart from the first team fighting the Silver Wolf King, there were at least a thousand players standing in the back, mainly to deal with the Silver Wolves summoned by the boss and prevent them from interfering with the battle inside.
The battle lasted for over an hour, but eventually, the Silver Wolf King fell. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Ao Shi Tian Xia picked up the items and rushed back to the village, ordering, “Jue Qing, Gu Feng, you two leveled up just now, right? Hurry and go get the first-class rewards for the Shield Soldier and Priest professions.”
When they returned to the old village, they saw the village chief frantically repairing the magic array. Just then, another server-wide announcement rang.
“Server-wide Announcement: Congratulations to player Meng Huan Qing Wu for successfully changing to the Priest class. As the first player to change to the Priest profession, the system rewards you with 500 reputation, 20 gold, and one skill book. This is an official announcement!”
“Meng Huan Qing Wu isn’t from the 8365 old village, right?” Ao Shi Jue Qing asked, puzzled.
“Hmm, looks like the Meng Huan Guild killed the Silver Wolf King before us,” Ao Shi Tian Xia frowned.
The Meng Huan Guild was a well-known female guild in the online world, made up entirely of female players, and it had managed to enter the top ten guilds.
“Didn’t expect the top Mage, Meng Huan Qing Wu, would change to a Priest. I wonder if it’s for the first-class reward or if her talent suits the Priest class,” Ao Shi Gu Feng sighed.
At that moment, the village chief finished repairing the magic array, and the three of them entered, choosing the city of Jinling.
Soon, another system notification sounded.
“Server-wide Announcement: Congratulations to player Ao Shi Gu Feng for successfully changing to the Shield Soldier class. As the first player to change to the Shield Soldier profession, the system rewards you with 500 reputation, 20 gold, and one skill book. This is an official announcement!”
Thus, the first players for all major professions had appeared. What surprised everyone was that the 8365 old village had filled four of the spots, and apart from Junlin, the others were unknown players. This made everyone realize what it meant to ride on someone else’s coattails.
“Ding! Congratulations, you leveled up! Health +40, Mana +20, Agility +2, and you’ve gained 10 free attribute points. Please allocate them wisely.”
While everyone else was struggling to level up, Wu Shaochen couldn’t help but feel helpless after hearing his level-up notification. The experience from level 16 monsters was really high for a level 11 player, and even with the pet’s 20% experience bonus, each monster still gave him 216 experience. After killing 129 goblins, he leveled up.
“Sigh, after leveling up, I’ll have to find a new place to farm monsters,” Wu Shaochen sighed. He left the 10 attribute points unallocated for now and planned to use them when he needed them later.
Having killed 129 goblins, the poison damage had reached 152 per second, and the total health drained in one minute was more than 9,000. His immortal body had increased his health by 129 points, pushing his total health past 2,000, reaching 2,079. Agility had reached 120, and his experience was at 86/40,000.
The goblins dropped 8 pieces of equipment, with the drop rate significantly higher than when he was in the old village. Whether it was because of the monster level or luck, maybe both, since in the old village, he needed to kill 30 to 40 monsters for one piece of equipment. Here, it was roughly 10 to 15 monsters per piece.
What surprised Wu Shaochen even more was that one of the items was a black iron-grade piece of equipment.
[Wolf Fang Claw] Quality: Black Iron Physical Attack +60 Ignore Defense +4% Attributes: Strength +15 Class Requirement: Warrior
The attributes weren’t bad, and there were no level requirements, only class requirements. Wu Shaochen wondered if the higher the monster level, the greater the chance of black iron equipment dropping. If he was right, higher-level normal monsters should also have a chance of dropping bronze or even higher-quality equipment, but with a lower drop rate.
This piece of equipment would be incredibly valuable for a Warrior, and he could sell it for a good price. He decided to wait for more players to come to the main city before auctioning it off.
The remaining 7 pieces of equipment were white-grade and level 16, likely unsellable, and he’d probably have to sell them to the in-game store. He felt that in the future, only white-grade equipment would have level requirements, while attribute equipment would just require class requirements. If that was the case, it seemed unnecessary to pick up white-grade equipment anymore.
What excited him even more was that Silver Wolf, his pet, required much less experience to level up than a player. Even though it was just a 20% experience share, the 100+ goblins had managed to level Silver Wolf up to level 8, greatly improving its attributes.
[Silver Wolf] Pet Quality: A Level: 8 Health: 8,200 Mana: 900 Physical Attack: 260 Physical Defense: 186 Magical Defense: 93 Speed: 40
The attributes were decent, but the pet couldn’t battle yet since Wu Shaochen had leveled up too much. Under the same level, Silver Wolf could easily crush enemies, but now, it could only continue following behind and gaining experience.
Just as Wu Shaochen was about to continue exploring, his phone rang. He reluctantly logged off and answered the call. If he had a game pod, he could just answer the call while still connected to the game, but without it, he had to do it manually.
He took off his game helmet, grabbed the phone beside him, looked at the caller ID, and smiled slightly. It had been a while since this little girl called him.
“Brother…” The voice on the other end of the phone was hesitant.
“What’s up, Ziyin?” Wu Shaochen asked.
“Brother… can you transfer some money to me? I know you don’t have much, but…” Ziyin’s voice was filled with uncertainty.
“Sure, I’ll transfer it to you right away.” Wu Shaochen immediately understood the nervousness in her tone and transferred 20,000 yuan to her card without asking why.
After their father passed away, she was his only family. When he didn’t have much money, he used to send her 1,000 yuan for living expenses each month. She knew his financial situation, so she always managed on her own and even worked part-time. This was the first time she had asked him for money.
After hanging up, Wu Shaochen transferred 20,000 yuan to her card, wondering if he should have sent more, but worried about her thinking he was overdoing it.
