Chapter 37: The Strategist of Black Wind Stronghold

Within less than an hour, Wu Shaocheng had not even been offline when the golden light of leveling up appeared on him. Clearly, those enemies had been poisoned to death, and the almost-ready level-up pushed Wu Shaocheng directly to level 15. He immediately distributed the 10 attribute points he had gained into his constitution. After killing a few waves of ranged monsters, he had started to realize the importance of defense. He was determined to be a tanky assassin.

After allocating the points, he waited for his skills to cooldown, then ran to the location again. Upon arrival, he saw six mages standing alone with wary expressions. Wu Shaocheng smiled and muttered, “You thought you could hit me? Now you’re scared, huh?”

He then activated Stealth and approached them. As he got closer, he triggered Speed Boost and poisoned two of them first. This time, the mages had learned from the previous encounter and quickly reacted, trying to create distance.

However, Wu Shaocheng’s speed wasn’t something they could outrun. He swiftly followed and attacked, quickly poisoning the remaining four mages. During this, he was hit by three Fireball spells.

After applying the poison, Wu Shaocheng turned and fled. The mages hastily cast their spells in an attempt to hit him, but he activated Void Walk and dodged their attacks, then casually walked away.

An hour later, Wu Shaocheng returned. All the mages had fallen to the ground. He searched the area and actually found one piece of Black Iron equipment along with five silver coins.

[Sapphire Necklace]

  • Black Iron grade
  • Magic Attack +50
  • Mana +300
  • Cooldown Reduction +2%
  • Additional Attribute: Spirit +21
  • Equipment Requirement: Mage, Priest

Not bad. He had made some money. Wu Shaocheng sent a screenshot of the attributes to Su Muxue, and as expected, he received a reply soon after.

Xue’er: “How much?”

Wu Shaocheng glanced at the auction prices for Black Iron equipment, which were generally between 50,000 and 70,000. His piece was dropped by a level 20 monster, so it was a bit stronger. After some thought, he typed: “70,000.”

Su Muxue didn’t say anything, clearly agreeing that the price was reasonable. The two of them quickly finalized the deal. Just as they completed the transaction, Wu Shaocheng received another system notification.

Ding, the item you listed in the auction has been bought by another player. The sale price is 80,000 gold coins. After deducting the handling fee of 12,000 gold coins, the remaining 68,000 gold coins have been transferred to your bound bank card.

“Huh, I almost forgot about that shield I had listed. Not bad, the price is quite good. But after the fees, I only got a bit over 60,000. Honestly, it’s much better trading with that little girl. No fees, just fast and straightforward,” Wu Shaocheng mused.

By now, it was probably around eight in the morning. He decided to log off for breakfast. Since there were no monsters around, he chose to log off in his original position.

After removing the helmet, he habitually checked his bank balance and was shocked to see it had skyrocketed.

“What the hell, it’s over a million?” Looking at the balance of 1.11 million gold coins, Wu Shaocheng couldn’t believe his eyes.

He spent a while calculating and then realized he had made his first million without even noticing it. Excited, he paced around his room for a few minutes to calm down.

“Should I buy a game pod?” Wu Shaocheng thought, but then looked at his small rental apartment. A game pod probably wouldn’t fit. “Forget it, I’ll sort out the housing issue first, then I’ll think about the game pod.”

After a quick breakfast, he returned home and quickly logged back in. He was now focused on completing a hidden quest he had, as well as getting the first kill of the Silver BOSS to make more money.

When he logged in again, he found himself in Black Wind Stronghold. Wu Shaocheng wandered around the central area, expecting the place to be free of monsters, only to unexpectedly encounter a big guy. This monster, the Black Wind Stronghold Strategist, was glaring angrily at him. Wu Shaocheng quickly used the Detect skill.

[Black Wind Stronghold Strategist]

  • Bronze-grade BOSS
  • Level: 20
  • Health: 350,000
  • Magic Attack: 900
  • Physical Defense: 400
  • Magic Defense: 480
  • Movement Speed: 95

Skills:

  1. Fireball: Shoots a fireball at a target, causing 120% magic damage. Cooldown: 3 seconds.
  2. Frostbolt: Fires an ice bolt at a target, causing 130% magic damage and reducing movement speed by 30% for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 10 seconds.
  3. Explosive Fire: Releases a fireball at a target location that explodes, causing 145% magic damage in a 3×3 area. Cooldown: 2 minutes.
  4. Hailstorm: Sends a hailstorm to a designated location, causing 135% magic damage in a 5×5 area and reducing movement speed by 30% for 5 seconds. Cooldown: 1.5 minutes.

Wu Shaocheng swallowed nervously. Four skills and high magic attack? He quickly ran to distance himself from the monster, making sure to leave the aggro range. If he was going to fight, he needed to approach stealthily and engage with his full setup.

He checked his own stats. After leveling up, he had gained 40 more health points, and after killing 30 mages, he had gotten an additional 30 health points from his Immortal Body trait. His total health was now 3046, with 236 magic defense and 426 poison damage. After leveling up, he also got 6 more points from killing 6 mages.

“Should be doable!” Wu Shaocheng thought. He knew that he couldn’t tank all of the strategist’s skills, but with proper timing, he could avoid most of them.

If he activated Stealth, got close, and used Speed Boost, he could poison him twice and escape before the strategist cast his spells.

“Let’s do this!” After confirming his strategy, Wu Shaocheng entered Stealth again and snuck up to the Black Wind Strategist.

He approached quietly, then activated Speed Boost to deliver two quick strikes, then immediately turned and ran.

“Ah! You little thief, you’re dead!” the strategist roared.

Immediately, a Frostbolt hit Wu Shaocheng, reducing his speed by 30%, followed by a Fireball, and then the strategist cast Explosive Fire. Fortunately, there was a 0.5-second casting time for the fireball, so Wu Shaocheng had already run out of range, and the fireball exploded harmlessly behind him.

Wu Shaocheng looked at his health, still more than half full, and smiled. It didn’t seem too difficult.

After calculating the time, Wu Shaocheng returned a minute later to add more poison. This time, he didn’t use Speed Boost, so he had to tank all three skills, but he still managed to escape without much harm.

Seven minutes later, the Black Wind Strategist finally fell to the ground.

Ding! “Congratulations! You have defeated the Bronze-grade BOSS [Black Wind Stronghold Strategist], gaining 200 reputation and 28,800 experience points. Your pet Silver Wolf gains 7,200 experience points.”

Ding! “Talent triggered, toxin damage +1. Current toxin damage is 427.”

Ding! “Immortal Body effect triggered, maximum health increased by 1 point. Your Immortal Body has increased your maximum health by 576 points.”

Wu Shaocheng checked his experience: Level 15, 37,406/70,000.

“Sigh, halfway there…” He thought as he looked down at the ground, smiling. “But hey, the loot dropped is definitely worth it!”

He quickly ran over to collect all the drops: 4 gold, 32 silver, 2 Bronze-grade items, 3 Black Iron items, and a couple of other items, including a scroll and a fruit.
