Chapter 83: Duel
After leaving the private room, Wu Shaochen took a deep breath, then slowly walked toward the dungeon. It was almost midnight, and once the time hit, it would be perfect for a run. By clearing the dungeon once, he could get at least one piece of golden equipment and several silver ones. For Wu Shaochen, it was an opportunity he couldn’t miss.
He arrived at the Linlang Dungeon, where it was already crowded. Most of the players were now at level 20, waiting for the dungeon to reset at midnight. Wu Shaochen squeezed his way in after a long struggle.
Once inside, he completed the dungeon run in just over ten minutes. He received a golden piece, five silver items, seven bronze items, and thirteen black iron items. The golden piece was a helmet, which Wu Shaochen could use.
[Linlang Helmet] Gold Grade: Health +800, Physical Defense +60, Magic Defense +60, Anti-Crit +10%, Additional Attributes: Constitution +25, Root +25, Agility +25, Additional Skill: Immunity to Critical Hits: After use, you will be immune to critical hits for 1 minute, cooldown time 5 minutes. Wearable by: All classes.
Wu Shaochen equipped the helmet. Of the five silver pieces, two could be used by Wu Ziyin, so he kept them aside for her. He then listed the rest, including the Black Wind Helmet, on the auction house. After a bidding session, one silver item sold for 250,000 coins, while the others sold for only 220,000 due to the appearance of the Tiger Head Saber, which caused the value of silver gear to drop. It seemed like the richest players were now after golden equipment.
The seven bronze pieces sold for 50,000 each, but it took a while for all of them to sell. As for the thirteen black iron items, Wu Shaochen was able to sell them for 2,000 each after a reduction from the original 3,000 price.
“Sigh, level 20 gear is becoming less valuable,” Wu Shaochen sighed. His total earnings from this run amounted to about 1.1 million coins, which was almost half of what he made on his first dungeon run. But there was nothing he could do; as players’ strength improved, lower-tier gear would naturally depreciate.
After clearing the dungeon, Wu Shaochen was about to return to his home in Jinling City and log off to sleep when three figures approached him. The one at the front held the Tiger Head Saber that he had sold earlier.
The man at the front, a player in a blue outfit, walked up and said, “Chen Feng, how about a PK?”
“No interest,” Wu Shaochen replied flatly. Who was this person? Just because they bought a golden weapon, they felt like challenging him? To be honest, Wu Shaochen couldn’t think of anyone who could withstand his poison at this stage.
“Heh, didn’t expect the great first player of Divine Judgment, Chen Feng, to be such a coward,” said the player behind him.
Wu Shaochen glanced at him and said, “You’re not qualified to challenge me.”
“What did you say?! Don’t think that just because you’re ahead in the early game, you’re something special. Our boss, Ling Shao, is only challenging you because he sees potential in you. Don’t be so arrogant,” another player said, sneering.
Wu Shaochen’s face turned cold. “So, you want a PK? Fine, let’s make it interesting.”
“Interesting? What kind of wager do you have in mind?” Ling Shao asked confidently.
“If you lose, you give me that Tiger Head Saber, and you’ll also slap that arrogant guy behind you three times,” Wu Shaochen said, pointing to the person who had spoken rudely earlier.
“You!” The man who had been called out was about to explode, but Ling Shao held him back.
Ling Shao turned to Wu Shaochen. “And if you lose?”
Wu Shaochen took off his Blood Cow Belt and said, “If I lose, this will be yours.”
“An Epic Gear!” The three of them gasped in surprise.
“Fine!” Ling Shao agreed.
The group quickly made their way to the Jinling City Arena. The arena was a special place for players to PK. Players who die in the arena do not lose any items, and if there is a wager, the system automatically collects and transfers the winnings to the victor after the battle.
Wu Shaochen didn’t want to deal with any complications; PKs were just a few moves for him. But just in case they tried to back out, it was safer to settle things in the arena.
News had somehow leaked, and now everyone knew that Chen Feng was going to face off against someone in the arena. Players swarmed to the arena to see the duel and to watch the audacity of anyone challenging the great Chen Feng.
Once in the arena, Wu Shaochen quickly registered his Blood Cow Belt as the wager. He was standing on the arena floor, tapping his foot impatiently. “Hurry up, I’m in a rush,” he said, not liking the attention he was drawing.
Ling Shao walked up with a grim expression and placed his Tiger Head Saber as his wager. Both of them stood at opposite ends of the arena, waiting for the system countdown.
“3,” “2,” “1…”
With the countdown finished, Ling Shao charged at Wu Shaochen, using his weapon’s enhanced damage and a speed-boosting skill. Seeing Wu Shaochen standing there unmoving, Ling Shao immediately used a skill, Cleave, to strike.
A smile of confidence appeared on his face. “Looks like you don’t understand the damage I can deal.”
Wu Shaochen calmly dodged the attack using Flash, appearing right beside Ling Shao. He struck with a Crusher skill, but Ling Shao quickly countered, blocking the attack. Immediately after, Ling Shao used Earth Slash to hit a 3-meter radius around him, causing AoE damage and stunning Wu Shaochen for one second.
“Nice reaction,” Wu Shaochen thought to himself. He activated his boots to dodge the next blow, deciding to hold back a little, as revealing his ultimate skill, Shadow Seven Strikes, would be overkill for this fight. He wanted to practice against a solid player like Ling Shao.
Ling Shao, frustrated by the miss, used Barbarian Charge, trying to knock Wu Shaochen over. But with Wu Shaochen’s movement speed over 1,000, the charge was easily dodged. Before Ling Shao could react, Wu Shaochen was already behind him, delivering a silent but deadly blow.
With his speed increased by Extreme Speed and his bracelet’s attack speed boost, Wu Shaochen unleashed a series of attacks. Ling Shao, unable to respond in time, was knocked down and fell to the ground.
Wu Shaochen was slightly surprised; Ling Shao still had over 7,000 health left after his skills hit. He thought the combination of Crusher and Weakness Break would’ve taken him down, but Ling Shao was still standing. It took a final normal attack to finish him off. Wu Shaochen now realized that other players also had their own hidden advantages.
The arena erupted in applause.
“Chen Feng is still the strongest!”
“Who’s this Ling Shao? He didn’t even manage to touch Chen Feng.”
“Yeah, I can’t believe he had the guts to challenge him.”
Meanwhile, Ling Shao, teleported off the arena, his face dark with anger. He shot Wu Shaochen a death glare before turning to leave.
“Don’t forget the wager,” Wu Shaochen called out to him, blocking his path.
“Chen Feng, don’t go too far. The Tiger Head Saber is already yours, but what more do you want?” Ling Shao’s companion shouted angrily.
“I don’t want anything more. Just waiting for someone to slap their face,” Wu Shaochen smirked.
“You!” the blue-clad man snarled.
At that moment, Ling Shao suddenly turned to his companion. “Slap yourself!”
“What… you?” The man was stunned.
“I said slap yourself!” Ling Shao’s voice was cold.
The man hesitated before slapping himself three times, his face turning red as he shot Wu Shaochen a furious look.
Ling Shao glanced at Wu Shaochen one last time. “You… you’ll regret this. I’ll find you again.”
Wu Shaochen simply shrugged. “If you can’t take the loss, don’t play.”
He then looked at the Tiger Head Saber in his bag and smiled, “Not a bad haul. Time to resell it.”
He promptly listed the Tiger Head Saber on the auction house before logging off to go to bed.
Back on the road, Ling Shao saw the item listed so quickly and was filled with rage. This was a blatant insult.
