Chapter 17: Villagers Terrified by a Wild Boar Visit
Wang Jianguo never imagined that the second-hand bride he had fallen for was actually a virgin!
Not only that, but there were rumors in the village that she was infertile, yet now she was pregnant!
One surprise after another.
He hadn’t just married a wife; he’d married a lucky star.
With his wife, life was getting better and better, and good fortune followed.
He carefully considered it. The person who said she couldn’t have children was her ex-husband, Sun Gousheng.
Therefore, the rumor was easily refuted; Sun Gousheng was simply lying.
Why did Sun Gousheng treat his wife, Huang Yuelan, so badly?
After a little deduction, it’s not hard to understand. He must have listened to village gossip, felt ashamed, and thought marrying such a woman would bring shame to his family, so he tried to divorce her.
But simply divorcing her seemed unfair, so he added infertility to the mix, making the divorce seem legitimate.
This way, no one in the village would blame him for being heartless and fickle; instead, they would sympathize with him, believing he was unlucky to have married Huang Yuelan, spending a lot of money without having any children!
Although Sun Gousheng’s actions were truly despicable, Wang Jianguo was still grateful to him in a way.
If Sun Gousheng hadn’t abandoned Huang Yuelan, would he have had the chance to marry her?
Wang Jianguo had two major dreams in his life: the first was to marry his beloved Yuelan, and the second was to have a happy family with a wife and children.
Now he had his beloved wife, and a child was on the way. He was about to become a father—a double blessing! His heart felt sweeter than honeyed fruit.
“Yuelan, you’re the best! I love you to death!” Wang Jianguo said excitedly, lifting Huang Yuelan into the air and spinning her around.
This loving spin was fun, but Huang Yuelan knew it wasn’t the right time. She was pregnant, and she couldn’t be as carefree as usual, jumping and spinning. She had to be careful, otherwise, she might lose her hard-won baby.
“Put me down! Put me down!” Huang Yuelan said twice, but Wang Jianguo, still excited, continued spinning her around, seemingly unaware of his wife’s discomfort.
“Oh, put me down, don’t shake the baby in my belly!” Huang Yuelan told Wang Jianguo.
Hearing Huang Yuelan mention the baby in her belly, Wang Jianguo immediately and gently put her down.
“I was just too excited, I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Let Dad listen to your heartbeat,” Wang Jianguo said, pressing his ear to Huang Yuelan’s belly.
Huang Yuelan curiously asked, “Did you hear it? Are there two heartbeats?”
“I heard it, I heard it, wife, there are not only two heartbeats in your belly, it feels like there are several heartbeats!” Wang Jianguo knew that a person only has one heartbeat. If a pregnant woman has a baby, there should be at least two heartbeats, but why were there so many heartbeats in his wife’s belly? It sounded like gongs and drums, very lively.
Huang Yuelan smiled, “What heartbeat are you hearing? People usually have two or three heartbeats. You must have heard it wrong if you hear so many!”
“Let me listen carefully again.” Wang Jianguo immediately pressed his ear to Huang Yuelan’s belly again, holding his breath, listening carefully, trying to distinguish his wife’s and the baby’s heartbeats.
After listening again, Wang Jianguo fell into deep thought. It was the same as before—his wife’s heartbeat was so numerous and rapid.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing Wang Jianguo’s puzzled expression, Huang Yuelan asked.
Wang Jianguo: “Wife, your heartbeat sounds so numerous and fast. Should I take you to the county hospital?”
“You’re such a worrywart. Haven’t you heard that a pregnant woman’s heartbeat is faster than a normal person’s? A child’s heartbeat is even faster, so it sounds chaotic and mixed when listened to through the belly. It’s normal, no need to see a doctor.” Huang Yuelan thought Wang Jianguo was curious about something. It turned out to be this. She couldn’t help but sigh that first-time fathers lacked experience.
But she was also a first-time mother, so neither of them should look down on the other. They still had a long way to go, and they would learn along the way.
Since learning about the baby in his wife’s belly, Wang Jianguo had stopped Huang Yuelan from doing any work; she literally didn’t lift a finger.
Before, she at least cooked and washed clothes, occasionally went up the mountain to dig bamboo shoots or pick mushrooms, but now she didn’t even need to cook or wash clothes. All she did was eat and sleep.
Wang Jianguo took on all the household chores. He got up before dawn, cleaning the inside and outside of the house, including the yard, and then went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Because Yueqiang and his brother had to go to school early in the morning, Wang Jianguo made breakfast for them every day. After all, it was a long morning, and if their stomachs were empty, they wouldn’t have the energy to study. Lack of concentration would naturally affect their studies.
After the two younger brothers finished their breakfast and went to school, Huang Yuelan woke up from her sleep. Wang Jianguo brought her the prepared food. After she finished eating, he washed the pots and bowls and then went to work in the fields.
Seeing their older sister eating and sleeping all day, Huang Yueqiang and his brother couldn’t help but sigh. They felt that their older sister was very lucky, and their brother-in-law was very kind to her. They believed their current good treatment was all thanks to their brother-in-law’s love for their sister.
If it weren’t for their older sister, would their brother-in-law care for them? They thought it was unlikely.
Huang Yuelan didn’t want to be so lazy, but her body wouldn’t let her.
Every day, she vowed to wake up early and go for a walk, otherwise, she would become as fat as a pig.
But the next morning, she always felt that the bed was too comfortable and couldn’t get up. She slept soundly, and when she woke up, the sun was high, and Wang Jianguo had already brought the food to the table.
Sometimes, he was in a hurry to go to work, so he covered the prepared food with a bowl to keep it warm; sometimes, he left a fire under the pot to keep it warm, so the food was still hot when Huang Yuelan woke up.
Huang Yuelan remembered that she used to be very diligent. She would get up early to study and eventually went to university.
Now, she couldn’t even get up to eat breakfast? She couldn’t go on like this; if she did, she would become useless.
However, she was determined but lacked the strength. After a period of struggle, Huang Yuelan was completely defeated.
The body of a pregnant woman is different from that of a normal person. You can’t just choose not to sleep because the baby in your belly is always sleepy. As long as they sleep in your belly, you will unconsciously follow suit. Therefore, pregnant women love to sleep, it’s not because they are too lazy, but because they can’t help it.
Before she was pregnant, Wang Jianguo often went to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy snacks for Huang Yuelan. Now that she was pregnant, he tried even harder to buy her delicious snacks.
Huang Yuelan deeply felt that marrying Wang Jianguo was marrying love.
Being pampered and spoiled felt truly blissful.
After stopping her struggle and no longer setting daily goals to wake up early, Huang Yuelan sometimes even helped Wang Jianguo prepare breakfast.
People shouldn’t have too much psychological pressure. Often, the more you want to accomplish something, the less likely you are to succeed. Letting things happen naturally will make success easier.
…
The villagers were working in the production team’s fields when a scream suddenly came from the hillside.
Although they didn’t know what had happened, seeing the villagers on the hillside, they dropped their tools and ran around. Some people didn’t care about the several-meter-high wall and jumped directly from the edge of the field.
Seeing this, the people below had no intention of continuing to work. They all dropped their tools and ran home, wishing they had eight legs, afraid of running slower than others.
The team leader happened to walk over. Seeing that all the members had thrown their tools on the ground and stopped working, he couldn’t stand it. If they couldn’t complete the production tasks, wouldn’t he, the team leader, be finished?
“What’s going on? Why are you all running?” The team leader was full of questions and anger.
What were the most basic requirements for their members? To have a sense of responsibility, to complete their tasks every day, and for everyone to work together to increase the production team’s grain output.
“Team leader, run quickly! A wild boar came from above, and it injured someone!” A villager who ran down from the mountain not only ran himself but also informed everyone to run and told the team leader what happened on the mountain.
As soon as he finished speaking, a wild boar with a long snout charged down from the mountain. It was quite large, weighing over two hundred kilograms.
The wild boar’s size and destructive power posed a great threat to the villagers’ safety.
The villagers below also ran around.
Others could run, but could the team leader run?
No!
What was the responsibility of the production team leader? To protect the villagers’ lives and property.
Now, the production team’s grain and the villagers’ safety were threatened by the wild boar. He, as the team leader, had to act.
But with his small stature, even ten of him wouldn’t be enough; he wouldn’t even be a side dish for the wild boar.
However, he was quick-witted. He knew that he couldn’t beat the wild boar, and neither could all the villagers present, but there was one person who could: Wang Jianguo!
The team leader turned and ran towards the school because he had assigned Wang Jianguo the task of reinforcing the school today.
Seeing their backbone, the team leader, running faster than anyone else, the villagers’ hearts sank.
They were still counting on the team leader to protect them. Even if he didn’t protect them, he could gather the villagers to resist together.
But now, not only did the team leader not gather the villagers to fight the wild boar with tools, he was the first to run to the high ground in the village.
His fear was even greater than theirs, making them feel a wave of disappointment.
The team leader quickly arrived at the school and found Wang Jianguo. When he saw Wang Jianguo, it was as if he had seen a savior.
“Wang Jianguo! Wang Jianguo!” The team leader shouted at Wang Jianguo.
Hearing the team leader call him, Wang Jianguo quickly jumped down from the wall.
