Chapter 9 The Timid Tutoring of the Profligate Young Master (9)
Pei Yao humorously patted Luo Yan’s head, “But can your body handle such spiciness? Hmm?” Pei Yao said as he reached out. Having been on a vegetarian diet for several days, how could a man who had just started eating meat endure this?
Luo Yan pushed his hand away, looking at Pei Yao with a frightened expression, silently accusing him of his rogue behavior.
Pei Yao chuckled, “Do you think I’m being a rogue? If you don’t want me to act like one, then quickly tell me what you want to eat. I can have a feast prepared for you with all kinds of dishes.”
After thinking for a while, Luo Yan still shook her head and honestly said, “I don’t know.”
“Don’t know?”
Pei Yao pinched Luo Yan’s face, puckering her mouth like a silly goldfish without any thoughts of her own.
“Don’t you have any preferences of your own?”
Feeling embarrassed, Luo Yan seemed to think that clearly expressing what she wanted would burden others greatly.
She twisted her fingers, softly saying, “I want something fragrant and light.”
Pei Yao was melting from her adorable sincerity and decided to take Luo Yan to a private Japanese restaurant.
As the car sped down the road, the greenery by the roadside flew past like rewinding tape.
The car stereo played gentle and pleasant English songs.
Pei Yao chatted with Luo Yan while driving, asking if she liked cold dishes, if she was allergic to seafood, and if she wanted to eat fried food.
As if remembering something, Pei Yao asked Luo Yan if she liked sweets. There was a private auction in the afternoon with delicious cakes and pastries.
Listening to Pei Yao vividly describe the food, it was as if a new world had opened up to Luo Yan. She couldn’t help but feel a bit of desire for those cakes and delicacies.
She responded with sounds of agreement, casually playing with the loose sleeves of Pei Yao’s coat. She secretly unzipped it, swaying the unusually loose sleeves as if singing Peking opera.
Watching Luo Yan play around, Pei Yao couldn’t resist the temptation. If he wasn’t driving, he would have embraced his timid tutor and kissed her passionately.
Suddenly, a cheerful ringtone abruptly interrupted Luo Yan’s self-amusement. She looked puzzled, wondering who could be calling her.
“Who is it?” Of course, Pei Yao was also curious.
Luo Yan took out her phone from her pocket, glanced at the caller ID, and immediately felt dejected.
It turned out to be her father.
Answering the call, Luo Yan obediently greeted, “Hello, Dad,” and listened quietly to Luo Hongda’s reprimand.
Due to her old-fashioned phone, the sound wasn’t great. Even though it wasn’t on speaker, she could hear her father’s loud and impatient voice clearly.
Luo Hongda questioned why Luo Yan hadn’t replied to his messages, scolding her in the process.
In fact, Luo Yan had been occupied by Pei Yao these days, how could she have time to play with her phone?
Pei Yao, driving the car, secretly listened to the conversation, frowning more and more as he heard it. He increasingly felt that Luo Hongda, this old man, was too nosy and rude, as if Luo Yan was his pet rather than his daughter.
Luo Hongda’s business was not going well, and he had become more irritable in recent days. Previously, Luo Yan took care of him at home, providing an outlet for his bad temper. Now that the boy had moved to the Pei family, Luo Hongda was finding it hard to adjust.
He started asking about how Luo Yan and Pei Yao were getting along, whether he was making the young master happy, and similar topics.
When Luo Yan heard Luo Hongda mention Pei Yao, she quickly covered the phone’s receiver, blushing and feeling extremely embarrassed.
Afraid that Pei Yao would get angry, she asked Luo Hongda to speak more quietly, saying she was busy and would call him back later, which only led to more scolding.
Pei Yao grew more impatient as he listened. He harshly tapped the steering wheel, pulling over the car. In Luo Yan’s frightened eyes, he snatched her phone.
“Hello, Uncle!” Pei Yao muttered to himself, his tone cold, “Luo Yan and I are getting along just fine. Please don’t bother us.”
“Don’t disturb us.”
After saying this, Pei Yao hung up the phone, muttered a few curses under his breath, and threw the phone back to Luo Yan.
Silence filled the car. Luo Yan felt a bit scared. After a while, she tugged at Pei Yao’s sleeve, murmuring an apology, “I’m sorry…”
“Why are you apologizing to me?”
Pei Yao’s eyes were bright, like a sharp sword piercing directly at Luo Yan, “Why are you apologizing to me?”
“What did you do wrong? Why are you apologizing to me?”
“I…”
Luo Yan thought, it’s because Pei Yao is unhappy. It’s obvious when Pei Yao gets angry. She doesn’t want him to be angry, so she wants to apologize to him.
“Because you’re not happy…” Therefore, Luo Yan tugged at Pei Yao’s sleeve again, “I’m sorry… Can you please not be angry?”
Seeing Luo Yan’s pleading eyes, Pei Yao was both furious and heartbroken, his emotions intertwined in a complex knot. He simply ruffled her fluffy hair.
“Forget it…” Pei Yao restarted the car. He had a hundred ways to deal with Luo Hongda, and he had years to make Luo Yan’s personality tougher. There was no need to rush things.
The car drove on, but the atmosphere between them was considerably quieter than before.
Pei Yao drove silently, lost in thought.
Luo Yan lowered her head, fiddling with her clothes, recalling her actions. She felt increasingly useless, her heart heavy, and her eyes felt sour as if she had eaten lemons.
Pei Yao caught a glimpse of Luo Yan secretly rubbing her eyes. It felt like countless needles were pricking his heart, and he couldn’t help but secretly curse at Luo Hongda for being such a nuisance.
Pei Yao simply played a cheerful animated cartoon theme song and started telling Luo Yan about his childhood mishaps. When he mentioned how he had secretly placed a caterpillar in his father’s suit pocket, and his father, during a meeting, reached into his pocket and almost flipped the conference table, Luo Yan couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“What happened next?” Luo Yan asked curiously.
Pei Yao looked at Luo Yan’s smiling eyes and laughed along, “My dad almost beat me to death. My butt was swollen for days, and I had to sleep on my stomach.”
“My mom was so angry she slept separately from my dad. She said she wouldn’t forgive him unless he beat his own butt.”
Luo Yan covered her mouth and laughed, her eyes were both envious and innocent, as if spring had sprinkled flowers across the fields in her heart.
The atmosphere in the car returned to its usual cheerfulness and normalcy thanks to Pei Yao’s relentless self-disclosure.
…
The Japanese restaurant that Pei Yao frequented was located in a secluded part of the city center. He was a black diamond member of the restaurant. He threw the car keys to the valet and, arm-in-arm with Luo Yan, confidently walked inside.
The manager, spotting their esteemed customer, beamed with a radiant smile and greeted them with a courteous, “Pei Shao, bringing your girlfriend for dinner? Same table as always?”
“Yeah, the usual.” Pei Yao casually nodded, secretly enjoying the word “girlfriend.” He couldn’t resist leaning down and giving Luo Yan a fragrant kiss on her snowy cheek.
Luo Yan pushed against Pei Yao’s waist, blushing deeply from being kissed in public.
Pei Yao led her to the best private room, beautifully decorated and incredibly serene. For customer privacy, all dishes were delivered through a dedicated self-service window. After setting everything up, the waiter left the room, leaving only a call button.
Luo Yan took off her sandals and knelt on the cushion, curiously examining the room’s furnishings.
Fearing that Luo Yan might feel constrained, Pei Yao waved his hand, allowing her to play freely. He told her to take anything she liked, even if it was something he had his eyes on.
