Chapter 21: Trip to the Scrap Yard
Two apples were taken out, and one was given to Mo Haoyue.
Mi Xia: “Zhang Xiaoyu, this is my husband. He’s a soldier, so he’s always been away.”
Then she said to Mo Haoyue, “This is my business partner.”
The two nodded to each other. Mo Haoyue looked at Zhang Xiaoyu, feeling that this person was trustworthy; his face didn’t look like that of a bad person. Even if he left now, he could rest assured.
Mi Xia: “Do you have fabric for making quilts here? I also need fabric for making clothes.”
“Yes, wait a moment, I’ll get it for you.” Zhang Xiaoyu said, then ran off, startled by Mo Haoyue’s imposing aura.
“What do you think of this person?” Mi Xia asked Mo Haoyue.
“He’s pretty good, looks kind. But don’t do this kind of work in the future. If something happens to him, you won’t be able to escape either. I’ll take on more missions, and I’ll take care of supporting the family.”
“Don’t worry about the house in Kyoto, I’ll figure it out.”
Mi Xia: “Okay, I’ll listen to you. I won’t do this anymore. Before, I wanted to get my brother a job, and once he had a job, we naturally wouldn’t want the family to be separated.”
“With your salary, and my brother having a job, my sister-in-law and I can grow some vegetables at home, so we won’t spend much money.”
“I can also occasionally take some food and meat from my space to supplement the family, and say it’s bought with your salary.”
Mo Haoyue nodded. As long as they didn’t engage in speculation and profiteering, taking some out for the family to eat would be fine.
“Here you go.” Zhang Xiaoyu threw the fabric into Mi Xia’s arms and quickly ran away.
“Are you that scary? Look how scared he is. I haven’t even paid him yet, and he’s already run off.” Mi Xia joked.
Mo Haoyue helplessly touched his nose.
Leaving the small courtyard, Mi Xia found a dead-end alley, and the two of them went straight into the space.
Mi Xia took out a pork rib, a winter melon, a fish, two pounds of shrimp, two cans of oranges, and several peaches.
She also took out pork and a large head of cabbage, planning to make dumplings, a family favorite.
Remembering that they could grow vegetables in the courtyard, Mi Xia also took out several packets of vegetable seeds.
Mi Xia tore off the modern labels, washed a plate of strawberries and cherries, and leisurely lay on the sofa to eat.
When Mo Haoyue came out, Mi Xia was once again stunned.
The man in front of her was 1.88 meters tall, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, a perfect inverted triangle figure, and a cold and abstinent face.
Mi Xia’s saliva almost dripped. In the end, somehow, she was completely ravished.
“It’s all your fault! What time is it? You told my sister-in-law not to go out to buy groceries, and it’s already past dinner time!” Mi Xia chided playfully.
Mo Haoyue lovingly stroked Mi Xia’s hair, “When we go back later, I’ll tell my sister-in-law that something came up.”
Mi Xia was shy, wishing she could bury her head in the blanket.
After everything was tidied up, it was already past one o’clock. Mi Xia took two hamburgers and two fruit teas.
“This food is from over 40 years in the future. The children then were so lucky; they could eat whatever they wanted. If they wanted to go to school, as long as they wanted to, they could continue until they were over 20.”
“High-rise buildings are everywhere, and technology is also very advanced. In short, from poverty to wealth, I’ll be with you on this journey.”
Mo Haoyue couldn’t help but hug Mi Xia, “Wife, it’s so good to have you.”
Mi Xia: “You’re just realizing this now? Having me is your good fortune.”
“Yes, having you is my good fortune.” Mo Haoyue earnestly agreed.
Mi Xia: “Let’s go out. Let’s go to the scrap yard and buy some books. If I read more, I’ll have a better chance.”
Mo Haoyue responded and took Mi Xia to the scrap yard.
Mo Haoyue: “Sir, we’d like to buy some newspapers to paste on the walls.”
There were quite a few people buying newspapers, so the old man wasn’t surprised. “Newspapers are two cents a pound. You can go in and pick them out, and then weigh them later.”
“Okay, thank you, sir.” Mo Haoyue secretly gave the old man a peach.
“What are you up to? I’m not doing anything that’ll land me in jail.” The old man nervously shook his head. Although he also wanted the peach, he was afraid he might get it but not live to eat it.
Mo Haoyue: “Sir, don’t misunderstand. My wife will take a lot of newspapers later, for using in the toilet and so on. What do you think?”
The old man breathed a sigh of relief. “Okay, I thought it was something else. Take as much as you want, it’s free.”
“Getting old makes you timid,” the old man muttered.
Then he looked at the peach in Mo Haoyue’s hand.
“Ah, thank you, sir.” Mo Haoyue said as he handed over the peach.
Everything now was state property. He could only get a meager salary. Giving the old man a peach was something tangible. Taking a little extra newspaper wouldn’t be worth much, and no one would care.
Mo Haoyue: “Wife, you go in and get some; I’ll chat with the old man and have a smoke.”
Mi Xia: “Okay, I’ll go in. You chat with the old man for a while.”
Once inside, the whole scrap yard came into view—quite large. A large courtyard and several rooms; the courtyard was cluttered with all sorts of things.
In the past-life period novels, the female lead would find many antiques or paintings in the scrap yard. Mi Xia initially thought of picking up some bargains.
But after searching the entire scrap yard, although there were some things worth some money, they were all broken and not worth taking back. Fortunately, she found a complete set of 1965 college entrance examination textbooks.
Although old and damaged in places, it was better than nothing. It’s worth noting that in the months leading up to the resumption of the college entrance examination, many educated youth who had gone to the countryside and high school students in the city didn’t even have one book from this set.
Putting the books into the space, she also found some medical books and a copy of the Three Character Classic. Feeling she had been there for a while, Mi Xia went to the several stacks of newspapers she had seen earlier.
She took a large stack to disguise her actions. It was undeniably heavy; she would walk a bit, stop to rest, then switch to the other hand.
During another rest, a husky, sexy voice came from beside her, “Let me carry that. You rest.”
“Ugh, it’s too heavy; my hands are sore.” Mi Xia said, stepping aside.
Mo Haoyue: “Silly girl, why didn’t you call me at the entrance? Your little frame can’t carry something this heavy.”
“I thought it wasn’t far from the entrance, but I didn’t expect it to be so heavy.” Mi Xia pouted.
Mo Haoyue looked at Mi Xia’s lips, tender and juicy, and wanted to kiss her.
“Let’s go.” Mo Haoyue quickened his pace; they couldn’t stay any longer; this place wasn’t suitable.
Mo Haoyue: “Sir, we’ll be going now. We’ll come back to chat with you next time.”
The old man glanced at Mo Haoyue and Mi Xia. They didn’t seem to be carrying anything, just a stack of old newspapers, so he waved his hand generously.
“Go, go.” If you need more, just come back.
Mo Haoyue nodded and left with Mi Xia.
“I’m lucky; I found a set of college entrance examination textbooks. I’ll study in the space every day for a while. With the spiritual spring water, it will definitely be twice the result with half the effort.” Mi Xia smiled happily.
“When you have nothing to do in the army, read more too. Reading more books only has benefits. Maybe you’ll have the chance to go to school for further studies.” Mi Xia looked at Mo Haoyue with a sweet smile.
Seeing Mi Xia’s serious expression, Mo Haoyue made up his mind. He couldn’t relax in the army; he also had to read more. Even if there weren’t any opportunities, reading more wouldn’t hurt.
Unknowingly, they reached their doorstep.
Knock knock knock.
Zhang Hongxia: “Who is it?”
Mi Xia: “Sister-in-law, it’s me.”
Zhang Hongxia: “You didn’t come back for lunch. Your brother was so worried he couldn’t eat.”
Mo Haoyue: “Sister-in-law, I had something to do at noon and got delayed. Next time, we’ll let you know if we won’t be back, to avoid worrying you and my brother.”
“Come in quickly. Look at me, standing at the door with one foot.” Zhang Hongxia patted her head.
Mi Xia: “Sister-in-law, I bought some food. Let’s make dumplings tonight.”
“Okay, give them to me. You go see Xia Xia; the little girl misses you.” Zhang Hongxia urged.
In the courtyard.
Mo Zhixia: “Papa, Mama, bad.”
Mo Haoyue couldn’t stop smiling at his daughter’s frowning expression.
“Papa and Mama will take you out to play, okay?”
Seeing the little girl happily clapping her hands, Mi Xia also laughed.
It was already past three o’clock in the afternoon, so let Mo Haoyue play with his daughter. Tomorrow, the whole family would go to change their household registration.
“Haoyue, you play with our daughter. I’ll help Sister-in-law make dumplings.”
Then she asked Mo Zhixia: “Xia Xia, shall we eat dumplings tonight?”
“Good, good.” The little girl nodded repeatedly.
“Then Xia Xia be good and play with Papa. Mama will go make dumplings with Auntie.” Mi Xia went to the kitchen.
Zhang Hongxia was already kneading the dough.
Mi Xia: “Sister-in-law, I’ll chop the meat filling.”
“Aren’t you going to rest? You’ve been busy outside all afternoon.”
Mi Xia’s face instantly flushed red. If Zhang Hongxia didn’t know what she had done in the afternoon, she would have thought Zhang Hongxia was teasing her.
“It’s okay, I’m not tired. Let’s do it together; it will be faster.”
