“The Top Student Prodigy Travels to the 1970s with a Magical Space” Chapter 39

Chapter 39: Going to Yancheng to Wholesale Goods

Mo Haoyue wasn’t angry, he was just worried about her safety. If something happened to her, what would happen to him and his daughter? But his little wife was very opinionated and had her own ideas. He couldn’t keep holding her back. Oh well, if something really happened, he’d be there for her.

Mo Haoyue affectionately touched Mi Xia’s hair, “Just be happy, but be careful and protect yourself.”

Mi Xia smiled at him and said confidently, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect myself.”

They chatted for a while longer and then went to bed. The next morning, Mi Xia took them both to Zhang Xiaoyu’s place.

“Knock knock.”

“Is Zhang Xiaoyu home? This is Mi Xia.”

“Come in, I’m Xiaoyu’s wife. He’s out, but he told me you’d be coming.” A woman in her twenties said.

Mi Xia sized her up. She was about 5’3″, with her long hair tied in a ponytail. She wore a neat, bra-style dress, though it was a bit dark. She gave off a calm and comfortable vibe.

Mi Xia nodded and went inside with the two of them.

“See where you want to stay, I’ll tidy up for you. By the way, my name is Liu Zhaodi.”

Mi Xia: “No need, you go ahead and busy yourself. We can do it ourselves.”

“Mom, I want to play with the brother.” Mo Zhixia pointed to a little boy in the yard.

Liu Zhaodi said, “That’s my son, Xiaobao.”

“Then go ahead, don’t bully your brother, be careful.” Mi Xia said, handing Mo Zhixia a handful of candy.

The little girl nodded obediently, took the candy and ran over.

“Thank you for your trouble, we’ll go tidy up the room.” Mi Xia smiled at Liu Zhaodi.

Liu Zhaodi: “Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on the two children.”

Mi Xia and Mo Haoyue then went into the room to tidy up, taking out two quilts and some daily necessities from the two large bundles Mo Haoyue was carrying.

These were items Mi Xia had discreetly taken from her space when they left the guesthouse.

After tidying up the room, Mo Zhixia was still playing with Xiaobao. Mi Xia didn’t bother her and went with Mo Haoyue to explore the courtyard.

The courtyard was square, facing south. It had north rooms, south rooms, east wing, and west wing, a very regular layout, fully expressing the traditional Chinese cultural concept of “heaven is round and earth is square.”

This was a two-courtyard house. They were staying in the first courtyard. There were small rooms on either side of the main house and the south side of the wing rooms, a cleverly designed layout.

When Zhang Xiaoyu returned, it was already three o’clock in the afternoon.

“Xiao Xia, you’re here! Why didn’t you tell me in advance? I could have picked you up.” Zhang Xiaoyu said, nodding to Mo Haoyue in greeting.

Mi Xia: “My husband is also here, so I didn’t tell you. By the way, have you looked at other houses?”

“Yes, I found one near Jingqingzhong. It’s nicely laid out, a small villa, similar to those in G City. No disputes, clear ownership.”

“Lead the way, let’s go take a look. We won’t bring Xia Xia.”

Zhang Xiaoyu went over and said a few words to his wife, then led the way.

This house was indeed very similar to the one in the county, a small villa with a yard. The decoration was much better, and the house looked brand new. Mi Xia nodded in satisfaction after viewing it.

“What do you think?” Mi Xia asked Mo Haoyue.

Mo Haoyue: “This one is similar in layout to the one in the county. Why don’t we buy it?”

Seeing Mi Xia turn to him, Zhang Xiaoyu quickly said, “The owner wants 8,000 for this house, not a penny less. I suggest you buy my house; it’s cheaper.”

“Okay, then you take care of it. After buying it, find someone to thoroughly clean it.” Mi Xia said, handing him a thick stack of money – 10,000 yuan.

Zhang Xiaoyu: “Got it.”

School was starting in about ten days. Mi Xia wanted to take Xia Xia and Mo Haoyue to Yancheng. She originally didn’t want to take her daughter.

But she was still young, and she had just met Zhang Xiaobao. After they returned, she’d let the two children spend more time together to get familiar with each other, so next time she had to go out, she could leave her daughter at home.

Mi Xia: “Mo Haoyue, I want to use the convenience of my space to get some things in Yancheng to sell. Do you think that’s feasible?”

“After we get it back, we’ll give it to Zhang Xiaoyu. I’ll focus on school, spending time with our daughter and you.”

Seeing his wife’s money-minded look, Mo Haoyue couldn’t refuse. While he hadn’t started his studies yet, he could help her get things sorted out.

If something went wrong, he could help. It was better than him going to study and her doing it alone, in case something happened and he couldn’t be there for her.

Liu Zhaodi made dinner that night. Zhang Xiaoyu came back when it was dark.

“Zhang Xiaoyu, Mo Haoyue and I are going out tomorrow, and we may not be back for more than ten days. During this time, contact your former subordinates.

When we get back, you’ll be busy. Call all the ones you trust; you’ll still be in charge, I’ll only deal with you.”

Zhang Xiaoyu was deeply moved. Mi Xia trusted him. He nodded heavily.

The next morning, Liu Zhaodi made them a hearty breakfast. After eating, the family set off for the train station.

They boarded the train smoothly, with Mo Haoyue taking care of Mo Zhixia and their luggage.

They bought sleeper berths. The current green-car trains only had two levels, and one room could sleep four people. As soon as Mi Xia sat down, she opened the window for ventilation. She would close it later when the train started moving; the weather was still cold.

With Mo Haoyue around, Mi Xia didn’t have to worry about much. Importantly, Mo Zhixia was very well-behaved, not making a fuss. Finally, the three of them arrived in Yancheng that day.

Without resting, they started inquiring.

Mo Haoyue had a righteous air about him, and most people liked such men. Plus, he understood people’s hearts—he spent money where needed and gave gifts appropriately.

So they smoothly obtained an address and a nickname. The person who gave them the address was called Haozi. Haozi said that in that area, a man called Tiger Brother was the most famous, and doing business with him was straightforward.

Mo Haoyue, with his family, went to the address. Upon arrival, they felt the area was a bit desolate. The house in front of them was the address they had found.

“Is anyone there?” Mo Haoyue asked in his magnetic voice.

“Who’s there?” A hearty voice came from inside the door.

Mo Haoyue: “Tiger Brother? Haozi sent me.”

“Come in, Tiger Brother is inside.” The person who opened the door was probably Tiger Brother’s younger brother.

Inside, they saw a man in his thirties, looking frail like a scholar. He didn’t look like a smuggling boss at all. Indeed, appearances can be deceiving.

“What do you want?” Tiger Brother asked bluntly.

Mi Xia: “Radios and various fabrics.”

“Oh, the little girl is quite pretty. How did you get into this line of work?” Tiger Brother teased.

Mo Haoyue answered, “To make money, naturally. You can’t make big money without taking risks.”

Tiger Brother nodded with a smile, “Come in, everything’s inside. Take a look at what you want.”

The inner room’s walls were peeling, looking dirty. Tiger Brother’s younger brother opened the warehouse door. Inside, things were piled up: electric fans, electronic watches, televisions, tape recorders, postcards, celebrity photos, radios, washing machines, refrigerators—everything was incredibly expensive outside.

Electronic watches were 2 yuan each, 1 yuan each for orders of 1000 or more. Postcards were 10 cents each, 8 cents each for orders of 1000 or more. Electric fans were 80 yuan each, tape recorders 200 yuan each, televisions 350 yuan each, washing machines 560 yuan each, and refrigerators 800 yuan each. Discounts were available for bulk purchases of over 50 items.

Mi Xia ordered 2000 electronic watches, 2000 postcards, 50 electric fans, 50 televisions, 50 tape recorders, one washing machine, and one refrigerator.

Mi Xia pretended to take money from her backpack, but actually took it from her space. Over the years, aside from the money given to Zhang Xiaoyu, she only had enough for goods and return tickets.
