Chapter 46: Zhang Xiaoyu’s Trouble
Mi Xia would find a place to enter her space every day to eat delicious food or read books. There were no cell phones in this era, thankfully she had her space, otherwise she would have been bored to death.
The military training days slipped away quietly. Today was the 15th day of military training, and it was time for the military training performance. The purpose of the military training performance was to test the training results of the instructors and the students’ learning achievements.
Each class put on their best performance for the school leaders and the chief instructor, performing various movements, which were then evaluated and compared for awards.
Mi Xia, unsurprisingly, won the Outstanding Training Soldier award. After the military training, Mi Xia went straight to the small villa.
Mi Xia just arrived at the small villa’s gate, unsure if her daughter and Mo Haoyue were home.
Mi Xia patted her head. The little girl was studying! How could she be home?
Opening the door, she saw two children chasing and playing in the yard.
The little girl rushed over when she saw Mi Xia, “Mommy, Xia Xia misses you so much. I’ve been very good. Auntie said if I was good, you would come back early.”
“Mommy misses you too, my Xia Xia is the best. From now on, Mommy will try to make time to play with you every day, okay?”
Mi Xia looked at her daughter’s chubby, rosy cheeks, healthy and vibrant, and gratefully glanced at Liu Zhaodi.
“Look, Mommy brought you something. Will you and Xiaobao share it?”
Mi Xia took out two canned peaches and two strings of candied haws from her schoolbag – actually from her space, using the schoolbag as a cover.
“Thank you, Mommy. Xiaobao and I will share them.” Mo Zhixia smiled broadly, showing all her teeth.
Mi Xia watched her daughter, who was running towards Xiaobao with the candied haws and canned peaches. Xiaobao also ran towards Mo Zhixia, remembering to greet Mi Xia.
“Hello, Auntie. Thank you, Auntie.”
Mi Xia curiously asked Liu Zhaodi, “Why aren’t these two children at school?”
Mo Haoyue heard the sounds in the yard and came out to see. Unexpectedly, it was his wife who had returned. He replied,
“I figured you’d be home today, so I let Xia Xia stay home to wait for you. I didn’t expect the little girl would insist on playing with Xiaobao.”
Hearing the voice she had longed for, Mi Xia’s eyes instantly reddened. She thought 15 days would pass quickly.
She didn’t expect to miss him so much – during meals, during walks, even while resting in her space.
Mi Xia ran over and hugged Mo Haoyue. At this moment, she only saw him, the person she missed every moment. Remembering the children, she quickly let go.
Mo Haoyue was amused and exasperated, but his wife was his to cherish.
Dinner was prepared by Mi Xia and Liu Zhaodi. She planned to invite Zhang Xiaoyu’s family to the small villa for dinner.
Just as they were waiting for Zhang Xiaoyu to return for dinner, a series of urgent knocks came from the door. Liu Zhaodi thought it was Zhang Xiaoyu and rushed to open the door.
She saw Xiao Liu (one of Zhang Xiaoyu’s younger brothers).
Xiao Liu, bent over and panting, said, “Sister-in-law, Big Brother has been taken away.”
Seeing Liu Zhaodi’s delay, Mi Xia got up to check the door.
Liu Zhaodi, seeing Mi Xia, finally regained her composure, “Mi Xia, please save… Xiaoyu… save Xiaoyu.”
She cried, unable to speak coherently.
Seeing Liu Zhaodi like this, Mi Xia looked at Xiao Liu, “What happened to Zhang Xiaoyu? Tell me.”
Xiao Liu, seeing Mi Xia’s nervousness, though he had met her in G County, things were different now; she was a big boss.
“Big Brother was taken away by the red armbands.”
Mi Xia: “What happened? What happened in between? Tell me clearly.”
Xiao Liu: “When I was selling goods, a woman kept delaying, asking questions. I sensed something was wrong and wanted to leave. Big Brother saw it and stopped the woman, letting me go first.”
“I was worried about Big Brother, so I hid in the distance to watch. Unexpectedly, after a while, several red armbands came and took Big Brother away.”
Xiao Liu started crying, “It’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Big Brother wouldn’t have been taken away by the red armbands.”
Mi Xia held Liu Zhaodi’s hand, “Don’t worry. I brought Zhang Xiaoyu here. With me here, don’t worry. I will bring him back safe and sound.”
“Your most important task now is to take care of the two children. Leave the rest to me. Even if I can’t do it, my husband can.”
“Go and eat with the children. Wipe your tears. If you cry while eating, the children will cry too.”
As soon as Mi Xia finished speaking, Liu Zhaodi wiped away her tears and said firmly, “Don’t worry, I will definitely take good care of the children. You must bring Xiaoyu back.”
Mi Xia nodded solemnly.
Mo Haoyue: “Go inside first. Mi Xia and I will find a way.”
Liu Zhaodi responded and walked into the house.
“Go back to the courtyard house and tell your brothers to go back. Don’t do anything these days, just stay quietly in the courtyard house,” Mo Haoyue stared at Xiao Liu.
Xiao Liu became even more afraid. Mo Haoyue’s aura was too strong. He quickly nodded in response.
“…I’ll go now. I’ll go find them. Please, you must bring my Big Brother back.” He left before Mi Xia could answer.
“Come with me,” Mi Xia said to Mo Haoyue.
The two found an uninhabited place and entered the space.
“I have some good cigarettes and alcohol here. Do you know anyone who can help? We can pay, as long as we can get Zhang Xiaoyu out,” Mi Xia anxiously looked at Mo Haoyue.
“Don’t worry. I have a comrade-in-arms in Beijing. I’ll go find him and see what we can do. Don’t worry, leave it to me,” Mo Haoyue hugged Mi Xia and comforted her by stroking her head.
Mi Xia then left the space with Mo Haoyue. This comrade-in-arms was named Bai Weidong, and he and Mo Haoyue had become acquainted through a fight.
Bai’s grandfather was an old Red Army soldier and a founding general. His father followed in his footsteps and was currently the commander of a certain guard regiment in the capital. Therefore, Bai Weidong was forced to learn martial arts from a young age and was sent to the army as soon as he came of age.
When Bai Weidong first joined the army, he heard that Mo Haoyue was the number one in the whole army’s martial arts competition. He was unconvinced and challenged Mo Haoyue, but he lost.
From then on, the two became brothers. This time, Mo Haoyue’s first thought was of Bai Weidong, who had left his home address before he left.
Mo Haoyue walked towards the place in his memory, asking Mi Xia to prepare cigarettes and alcohol. A visit would require a gift.
“Knock knock knock.”
The door was opened by an elderly man, once Bai’s grandfather’s bodyguard. He had lost an arm protecting Bai’s grandfather and was kept by Bai’s grandfather.
Despite his missing arm, he had a powerful presence. Mo Haoyue knew at a glance that he had been on the battlefield.
“Grandpa, we’re here to find Bai Weidong. He and I are comrades-in-arms. My name is Mo Haoyue.”
