Chapter 50: Visiting Big Brother’s Family
“Mom, why did you bring so many things? We’re not staying long. I’ll take you both out to eat and we can spend a few days together. I have things to do and can’t stay with you all the time,” Hao Yue said helplessly, rubbing his forehead.
Xu Cuihua thought for a moment, “Yes, our son can’t stay with us all the time; he has things to do in the army.”
Mo Haoyue didn’t tell them that Mi Xia was studying in Jingqing, nor did he mention that he was studying in Beijing. If he had, it would have caused other problems.
Old Man Mo glared at Xu Cuihua, and she obediently went back to repack her things.
“Fourth brother, I heard the children say you’re back? Didn’t you finish the farm work? That’s why you just returned.”
Of all Mo Haoyue’s brothers, he only had a good relationship with the second brother. The other two, one was glib-tongued, and the other was spoiled into a scoundrel by Xu Cuihua.
“Second brother, I’m back,” Mo Haoyue said with a happy smile.
“How long will you be staying this time? Is your wife back?” Mo Hongjun asked, looking into the house.
“My wife didn’t come back. You know she doesn’t want to come here,” Mo Haoyue had just finished speaking when Xu Cuihua rushed out.
“That vixen! She doesn’t want to come back? Does she think she’s above the heavens? We spent money to marry her, so she should work for this family!” Before Xu Cuihua could finish, she saw Mo Haoyue’s narrowed eyes, glaring at her fiercely. She was so scared that she couldn’t utter another word.
“Mom, Mi Xia is my wife, not someone you married for the family. Since I joined the army, I’ve sent all my monthly allowance to you. Then, because I disappeared for over a year, you treated her like that?”
“What did she do wrong? After marrying into this family, she’s always been obedient and sensible. She even gave birth to a daughter for me. Even if I disappeared, you shouldn’t have treated her so badly,” Mo Haoyue said, turning to leave. He had originally planned to stay at Mi Qiu’s place, and now he was just going there earlier.
“Fourth, I’m sorry. I won’t say anything about her again. Don’t go,” Xu Cuihua cried, grabbing Mo Haoyue’s arm, tears streaming down her face.
“Mom, she’s my wife. If I can’t even protect my wife and daughter, how can I defend the country? Before I came back, you had already driven her out. Did she take anything from the family? Did you ever think about how she and Xia Xia would live?”
“I didn’t mention these things before, not because I forgot. You raised me with so much hardship, and I can’t ignore you, but that’s not a reason for you to slander and bully her without restraint.”
“I’ll go now and come back tomorrow morning.”
Xu Cuihua released Mo Haoyue’s arm and watched him walk out of the yard step by step.
She genuinely disliked Mi Xia. If it weren’t for her, Mo Haoyue would have married the daughter of an army officer.
But she didn’t think, even without Mi Xia, would Mo Haoyue have married the daughter of an army officer?
Ultimately, the original owner never did anything wrong, yet she lost her life in vain.
After Mo Haoyue left, Old Man Mo slapped Xu Cuihua.
“What else can you do besides causing trouble?” Old Man Mo angrily slapped Xu Cuihua.
Xu Cuihua looked at Old Man Mo in disbelief, “You actually hit me?”
Xu Cuihua was usually arrogant, and Old Man Mo had never laid a hand on her before. This was the first time.
Old Man Mo glared at Xu Cuihua fiercely, “I warned you before, if you don’t want to lose this son, don’t mention Mi Xia again. You didn’t even mention her, you directly scolded her in front of your son. You’re really capable.”
Xu Cuihua felt guilty. When Mo Haoyue picked her up from Mi Qiu’s house, he hadn’t given her a good look, but he hadn’t said anything to her.
But Old Man Mo had seen it coming. He warned her not to mention Mi Xia again, not to scold her, otherwise, Mo Haoyue couldn’t do anything to her, but he could choose not to come home.
Unexpectedly, Old Man Mo was right. Mo Haoyue left, and Xu Cuihua was now crying in fear.
Old Man Mo was trembling with anger, his face turning pale.
He glared at Xu Cuihua with disappointment and went back to his room, leaving Xu Cuihua sitting on the ground crying.
Mo Haoyue had already gone far, to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy some things to take to Mi Qiu’s house.
“Knock knock knock.”
“Brother-in-law, why are you back? Where are my sister and Xia Xia?” Zhang Hongxia’s head poked out.
Mo Haoyue: “It’s just me. They’re in Kyoto.”
Zhang Hongxia: “Come in quickly. Have you eaten?”
Mo Haoyue: “Not yet, Sister-in-law, thank you for your trouble.”
“Don’t mention it. Aren’t we family?” Zhang Hongxia shouted into the house, “Honey, my brother-in-law is back.”
Mi Qiu rushed out and asked Mo Haoyue, “Where are my sister and Xia Xia?”
Mo Haoyue’s mood was very bad, but his brother and sister-in-law’s reaction made him very happy.
“They’re studying in Kyoto. They just started school not long ago, and it’s not easy to ask for leave, so I didn’t let them come back,” Mo Haoyue said with a smile.
Mi Qiu looked at Mo Haoyue disappointedly and said, “Come and eat.”
“Big brother, Mi Xia said it would be a few months at least, or a year at most, before she brings you to Kyoto.”
The children’s eyes lit up, and then Mi Jianguo excitedly asked, “Uncle, can we really go to Kyoto? I heard from my classmates that there’s the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square there.”
Mi Qiu was also happy, but thinking that once they went to Kyoto, they wouldn’t know anyone and wouldn’t have a place to live, he said, “We won’t go. We won’t know anyone in Kyoto, and the children might get lost.”
When the children heard their father’s words, their heads drooped in disappointment.
Mo Haoyue saw Mi Qiu’s concerns and comforted him, “Big brother, we bought a house in Kyoto, a two-story house just like this one. You can live however you want. Once she’s settled, she’ll bring you over. Don’t worry.”
Mi Qiu and Zhang Hongxia looked at each other and saw each other’s thoughts. They were already grateful to Mi Xia for moving from the countryside to the county.
Now they sell braised goods and cold noodles, and they can earn a lot of money a day. They originally planned to save up and give the money to their sister as a down payment for the house.
Mo Haoyue: “Big brother, you and sister-in-law are now doing small business. In a year or two, you can buy a storefront in Kyoto and continue selling braised goods and cold noodles.”
“Once you’ve saved enough money, you can buy a house in Kyoto. When you get there, you’ll only be staying at home temporarily. Mi Xia and I will just help you find a suitable house.”
Mi Qiu and Zhang Hongxia knew their brother-in-law was comforting them. If their whole family really went, they wouldn’t just be staying at their sister’s house; they would have to arrange for the children’s schooling.
The couple lowered their heads, afraid to cry in front of Mo Haoyue and the children. The children, however, were very happy.
“Thank you, Uncle. You’re so kind. When we grow up, we’ll be as filial to you and Aunt as we are to our parents,” Mi Weiguo said excitedly.
After dinner, Mo Haoyue helped Zhang Hongxia and Mi Qiu clean up.
Their business was always good, and even though many food stalls had sprung up around them, it didn’t affect their business at all.
