Chapter 60: The Mo Haoyue Family Returns to Kyoto
“This is the faucet, and this is the switch. Turn it to the right to turn on the water, and to the left to turn it off.”
Mo Haoyue slowly explained the use of the bathroom to his family.
After washing their hands, Mo Haoyue led them back to the living room for dinner. Because he had told Zhang Hongxia earlier, there were many dishes on the table.
Mo Lao Er’s family watched, their mouths watering. “Come and sit,” Zhang Hongxia greeted them.
“You guys eat first, I’ll go out and work.” Zhang Hongxia was afraid that if she stayed, Mo Lao Er’s family would feel uncomfortable eating.
After Zhang Hongxia left, only Mo Lao Er’s family and Mo Haoyue remained in the living room. They hadn’t eaten lunch, and seeing all the dishes on the table, the children sat down and devoured the food.
Mo Lao Er lowered his head and secretly shed tears. He had never eaten so much, such good food at home. Even if there was meat, his mother would only give it to the eldest and third families.
The number of times their family had eaten meat could be counted on two hands. Being able to eat the leftover soup from meat stir-fries was already considered good.
After the meal, several children showed happy smiles, and Mo Lao Er and his wife also exchanged smiles, regaining hope for life.
After dinner, Mo Haoyue had his family take a bath and change into the clothes Zhang Hongxia had brought. After they were all done, Mo Haoyue called both the eldest and second brothers and their wives together.
“Big Brother, my parents and I will return to Kyoto tomorrow. Please take care of my second brother’s family, and first teach them the skills of making braised goods and cold noodles.”
“After they learn, let them sell with you for a few days. When you feel they can run a business independently, then let the couple set up a stall.” After finishing speaking to Mi Qiu and his wife, Mo Haoyue turned to Mo Lao Er.
“Second Brother, after you learn, set up a stall far away from Big Brother’s stall, as we discussed before.”
“Okay, I’ll take care of it, my sister-in-law and I will definitely take good care of your second brother’s family.” Mi Qiu patted his chest and assured him.
“Also, after I leave, Big Brother and Second Brother, you both should take your wives to find a night school to study, starting with literacy.”
“Brother-in-law, my wife and I don’t need it for setting up a stall, and my wife and I are so old…” Mi Qiu asked incomprehensibly.
“Big Brother, in the future, after Mi Xia and I have settled down in Kyoto, we will definitely ask you to come and help. How can you help Mi Xia if you don’t even know how to read?” Mo Haoyue explained.
“Okay, we’ll go study.” Hearing that they would be going to Kyoto to help his younger sister, Mi Qiu had no objections. What did age matter? Even if he were 70 years old, as long as his younger sister needed him to study, he would.
Mo Lao Er and his wife also agreed. Mo Haoyue had guessed that as long as he mentioned Mi Xia needing their help in Kyoto, they would definitely study.
Of course, Mi Xia would definitely let both families develop in Kyoto in the future, but that’s a story for another time.
“Big Brother, one more thing, about Second Brother’s children, go to school tomorrow and find their homeroom teacher, and let them study with Mi Aiguo.”
“If they encounter something they don’t understand, Big Brother, let Aiguo and the others help them. First grade is pretty simple, helping them a little each day will keep them up to speed.” Mo Haoyue instructed.
“Okay, leave it to me and my wife.”
“Big Brother, Second Brother, after I return to Kyoto, you’ll be living under the same roof, you must get along well, don’t let Mi Xia and me worry. If Second Brother’s family doesn’t understand anything, please ask Big Brother and Sister-in-law to help them.” Mo Haoyue was worried and instructed again.
Zhang Hongxia: “Don’t worry, brother-in-law, leave it to me and your brother. We’ll strive to learn quickly, and then our two families will go to Kyoto to help the little sister.”
Mo Haoyue nodded with a smile, and said to Mo Lao Er, “Second Brother, what if your parents come looking for you in the future?”
Mo Lao Er frowned and remained silent. After a long while, he said with a bitter smile, “I have nothing to do with them anymore. If they keep coming here, I’ll take the document severing our relationship to the police.”
Mo Haoyue was relieved. He was afraid that his second brother would soften his heart. “Okay, if that day comes, go to Deputy Chief He of the county police station. He’s a former comrade of mine. Just mention my name.”
“Okay, I understand, fourth brother.” Mo Lao Er replied.
“Okay, then I’ll trouble Big Brother and Sister-in-law. Tomorrow morning, my parents and I will return to Kyoto. If you miss Mi Xia and me, write us a letter.”
After Mo Haoyue finished speaking, he went to find Liu Baoguo, who was smoking in the yard. “Dad.”
“Hey, I’m here, what’s wrong? Anything?” Liu Baoguo asked.
“Nothing, everything is settled. Let’s go back to Kyoto tomorrow morning.”
“Okay, I’ll book the tickets now. When we return to Kyoto, bring your wife home for dinner.” Liu Baoguo instructed.
“Okay.”
In the evening, Zhang Hongxia cooked, and Mo Er Sao helped her, making a large table of dishes as a farewell for Mo Haoyue’s family.
Everyone had a happy meal. Early the next morning, Mo Haoyue and his family boarded the train back to Kyoto, with Zhang Hongxia packing some snacks for them.
Liu Baoguo bought a sleeper car, a soft sleeper, with only their group in the entire carriage.
After getting on the train, Mo Haoyue walked around the carriage and turned to Liu Baoguo, “Dad, this is too wasteful, such a large carriage just for ourselves.”
Hearing this, Liu Baoguo smiled and said to Mo Haoyue, “Haoyue, come here for a moment, there are some things I need to tell you, about our family matters.”
Mo Haoyue obediently sat in front of Liu Baoguo and Wang Fen. When he heard Liu Baoguo mention his grandfather’s name, Mo Haoyue’s mouth opened wide enough to fit two eggs.
When he first met Liu Baoguo and Wang Fen, he knew they weren’t ordinary, but he never expected them to be so amazing.
“You mean, my grandfather is that… the one who led the xx campaign, defeated a division of Japanese troops, captured more than a thousand prisoners, and stood behind the chairman at the founding ceremony?”
Mo Haoyue, being from the army, was naturally familiar with the bigwigs in the military, especially the deeds of the founding generals, which he knew by heart.
He never imagined that he was actually the grandson of that person.
“Son, you’re right. It seems I don’t need to introduce him further, you know quite a bit about your grandfather’s identity.”
“Our family is quite sensitive to the outside world, so booking a soft sleeper carriage is also for safety reasons. On the way, I also need to talk to you about some specific family matters.”
“When we get back to Beijing, you come with me to meet your grandfather and your uncles and aunts. You also need to get to know your cousins and siblings, don’t meet your own family members without recognizing them.”..
Liu Baoguo was overjoyed. He wanted them to know how excellent his son was. Even though he didn’t grow up with them, he still joined the army due to his genes, and is now a regiment commander.
Amidst the rumble of the train wheels, Mo Haoyue’s family talked freely. After learning about his grandfather’s identity, and even his father’s status as a division commander and his uncle’s high position in Kyoto, he wasn’t too surprised.
