Chapter 71: Rejuvenation
After entering the living room, Liu Baoguo’s eyes never left the packaging bag. He’s always loved sweets.
After Xiao He bought the cake last time, he liked it more and more. Now that there’s even better dessert, how could he miss it? How could he not be happy?
“Dad, what do you think?” Mi Xia asked with a smile.
“It’s delicious, even better than those in the store. No wonder so many people are queuing up every day.”
“Then do you think my cake shop can open a branch?”
“Of course, why not? Have you got a location in mind? Dad will help you figure it out.” Liu Baoguo said, taking charge.
“Any place with high foot traffic will do.” Mi Xia said with a smile.
Liu Baoguo understood immediately. She wanted a prime location. It’s true; even good wine fears a deep alley.
“Leave it to me. We really should open a branch; otherwise, so many people won’t be able to get in.”
Liu Baoguo was also happy. Good sales meant his daughter-in-law was capable. Previously, some people had told him that finding a rural daughter-in-law was a downgrade.
Mi Xia could earn money, and she even passed the entrance exam for Jingqing University. The only thing missing was status, which the Liu family provided. Who would dare look down on the Liu family’s eldest daughter-in-law?
“Thank you, Dad. Later, Haoyue and I plan to take Wanwan to see Grandpa.”
“Okay, spend more time with Grandpa when you have time. In the years before we found Haoyue, Grandpa used his influence to send wave after wave of people to look for him, but there was no news.”
Liu Baoguo recalled those years when they couldn’t find their eldest son. They and the old man cried secretly day and night. Wang Fen, needless to say, cried every day and developed a headache.
Without Liu Baoguo and Wang Fen knowing, Mi Xia secretly poured two cups of diluted spiritual spring water from her space and gave it to them to drink.
If it wasn’t diluted, the toxins expelled from their bodies later would be hard to explain.
“Mom and Dad, don’t just eat cake, drink some water.” Mi Xia said, handing them the spiritual spring water.
She would give them more to drink in the future, and Grandpa too. He probably almost finished the bottle of wine; she needed to figure out a way to get him to drink more. Wine wouldn’t work; last time she said there was only one bottle.
“Dad, we’ll go now. We’re going to Grandpa’s for lunch.” Liu Haoyue said they were going to eat, but he actually wanted to see if Grandpa’s health had improved after drinking the wine made with spiritual spring water.
They took the same car as last time. Liu Haoyue and Mi Xia chatted about army life in the car. This time, it wasn’t as tense as last time; Mi Xia had time to observe her surroundings.
For example, Xiao Zhang, the driver, had a look of envy on his face, and he seemed eager to join their conversation when Liu Haoyue spoke. Perhaps he envied Liu Haoyue having such a beautiful, well-behaved, and capable wife.
Seeing Xiao Zhang’s expression, Mi Xia knew that he was hesitant because of discipline, but he really wanted to chat with them. So Mi Xia nudged Liu Haoyue, and he immediately understood.
Sometimes, the connection between two people is so magical; a single glance is enough for the other person to understand everything.
“Xiao Zhang, what year did you join the army? Where is your hometown?” Liu Haoyue asked proactively.
“Reporting, Commander, I joined in ’77, and my hometown is Quancheng.”
Liu Haoyue quickly waved his hand: “Don’t be nervous; you don’t have to call me Commander. We’re just chatting.”
Once the conversation started, the journey was filled with laughter, with Xiao Zhang joining in. Although Xiao Zhang looked like a rough man, he was actually quite knowledgeable.
For example, when they passed the former imperial palace, Mi Xia told them many historical anecdotes, but Xiao Zhang unexpectedly added many folk legends that Mi Xia had never heard of.
This impressed Mi Xia deeply. It’s true that no one who stays by the leader’s side is simple.
Soon, the car arrived at the alley entrance as before. After repeated checks of their IDs, they were allowed to pass. Safety couldn’t be compromised.
This time, before entering the gate, they heard a hearty laugh coming from the courtyard. The sound alone showed that the old man’s health had indeed improved.
“Grandpa, Mi Xia and I came to see you.”
“Grandpa.” Mi Xia also greeted politely.
“Oh, my dear grandson and granddaughter-in-law are here. Granddaughter-in-law, the wine you gave Grandpa last time was truly excellent.”
“After drinking it, I feel like I’ve returned to my youth. I have endless energy. Even the doctor who gave me a check-up said my physical indicators are at least thirty years younger.”
“Grandpa, did you finish the wine? When can we find the ingredients? I’ll brew some more for you.” Mi Xia was very happy to hear Grandpa’s words and decided to send Grandpa more wine later, claiming she brewed it herself.
“What? This wine can be brewed? How’s the effect? Is it the same as this one?” Hearing this, the old man rushed to Mi Xia, his eyes filled with excitement.
“I didn’t dare finish the bottle you gave me. As soon as I started drinking it, I felt energetic, and my years-long cough improved. I couldn’t believe it. After drinking it twice, I feel like I can fight the enemy with bayonets again.”
“By the way, I gave some of the remaining wine to my old comrades-in-arms. They also have many injuries. I sent a little to the lab at Jingqing University to see if they can study the ingredients and benefit humanity.”
The old man said so much in one breath without gasping for air. He truly had rejuvenated.
Mi Xia smiled inwardly, You guys can keep researching. Spiritual spring water isn’t that easy to research. After all, it’s a product of the space god.
But she said aloud, “I can brew wine too, but I don’t know if I can brew wine with the same effect as this one. My brewing method should be the same as everyone else’s, right? Is this wine really that magical?”
As the saying goes, it’s better to be cautious. This is even more true when it comes to life and death. No matter how strong humans are, they cannot escape death. Since ancient times, which ruler hasn’t pursued immortality after reaching the peak of power?
Mi Xia was very cautious about this, so she insisted from the beginning that there was only one bottle of wine, and that she only knew the ordinary brewing method. Otherwise, what would be sent to the lab for research wouldn’t be the wine, but herself.
Liu Haoyue naturally understood this, so he quickly echoed, “Grandpa, let Mi Xia brew some. We’ll send it to you in a few months for you to try.”
After saying this, Liu Haoyue was determined not to let Mi Xia casually take out the spiritual spring wine again. Even if he sent wine later, it would be ordinary wine. If the effect was different, he would attribute it to wild ginseng.
His wife was his closest person. No matter how much Grandpa cared for him, some spiritual spring wine had already been given away. The temptation of rejuvenation was too great. He would never allow such a thing to happen.
Mi Xia didn’t expect that the bottle of spiritual spring wine she took out would be like a butterfly flapping its wings, quietly changing the course of history.
