Chapter 78: Double Happiness
Wang Fen suddenly remembered something. She gently patted Mi Xia’s back, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, “How long has it been since your period?”
Mi Xia blushed at the question. After a moment of hesitation, she said, “More than a month.”
Wang Fen excitedly said, “Let’s go to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow. If you don’t feel like eating, go back to your room and rest. I’ll bring you something to eat later.”
Actually, Wang Fen had always wanted Mi Xia to have another child, but she was too embarrassed to talk to Liu Haoyue about it, especially since Mi Xia hadn’t grown up with them.
“Mom, I’m fine. I just can’t stand the smell of fish.”
Mi Xia was also happy. She had never intentionally avoided pregnancy, but she hadn’t conceived. This time, her delayed period, she thought it was due to fatigue and didn’t think much of it.
Hearing Mi Xia’s words, Wang Fen quickly removed the fish from in front of her.
“Xia Xia, what’s wrong?” The grandfather asked worriedly.
“Dad, Mi Xia might be pregnant. I’ll take her to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow,” Wang Fen said with a smile.
As soon as the grandfather heard this, he slapped his thigh and exclaimed “Good!” three times.
He then instructed that his team of health doctors should escort Mi Xia to the hospital the next day.
“Dad, no need. I can take Mi Xia tomorrow. I know people at the hospital,” Wang Fen replied with a smile.
“Are there any other unpleasant smells? Tell Mom, and I’ll move them.”
“Mom, I’m fine now, everything else is okay.” Wang Fen only relaxed slightly after Mi Xia finished speaking.
During the rest of the meal, Wang Fen didn’t stop talking.
“What do you want to eat? Is there anything you particularly like on the menu? I’ll have the cook make it for you tomorrow. Tell me anything you don’t want to eat.”
“Mom, except for fish, everything else is the same as usual. You don’t have to be so nervous,” Mi Xia said helplessly.
“How can I not be nervous? You need to take extra care of yourself. Nothing is more important than you and the baby!” the grandfather instructed.
Liu Baoguo didn’t speak, but he nodded in agreement with his father’s words.
Mi Xia felt like she was being treated like a national treasure.
“Come on, eldest son, have a few more drinks.” The grandfather couldn’t stop smiling.
The two men drank cup after cup. Wang Fen didn’t stop them; she also wanted a few drinks herself. She was so happy.
After dinner, “Xia Xia, let’s stay here tonight. Your father and grandfather both drank too much, and I can take care of your grandfather here,” Wang Fen asked.
“Mom, I can manage.”
“Okay, Wanwan will sleep with me tonight. The child is too young to understand anything. She might accidentally kick your belly.”
“Mom, it’s okay, you don’t have to be so nervous. Wanwan is very well-behaved when she sleeps.”
Mi Xia wanted to facepalm. Was she a national treasure now? Untouchable? But she knew Wang Fen meant well. She was just afraid that Wanwan wouldn’t be used to it.
A day or two would be fine, but she felt that Wang Fen wouldn’t let Liu Wanwan sleep with her until after she gave birth.
“Wanwan, do you want to sleep with grandma? Grandma will tell you stories, okay?” Wang Fen asked, holding Liu Wanwan’s hand.
The little girl tilted her head and asked, “Mommy, can I?”
“Yes, you can sleep with whoever you want.” Mi Xia lovingly touched Liu Wanwan’s hair.
“Then I’ll sleep with grandma.”
“Okay, Wanwan can sleep with grandma every day.” Wang Fen was mainly worried that Mi Xia, being young, might be accidentally hurt by the child.
Sometimes, children don’t do things on purpose, but the other person is indeed hurt. She was afraid of such accidents.
As long as Liu Wanwan slept with her, it would be fine. Anyway, she didn’t have much to do, and she could pick her up and drop her off every day and spend time with her. Wouldn’t their relationship grow stronger that way?
“Wanwan, say goodnight to Mommy.”
“Goodnight, Mommy. See you tomorrow.” Liu Wanwan said obediently.
After watching Wang Fen and Liu Wanwan go into the room, Mi Xia returned to her room. The plaque had arrived, but she didn’t know when Liu Haoyue would be back.
He hadn’t even sent a telegram. But as long as he was safe, that’s all that mattered.
Mi Qiu had sent a telegram earlier. In a few days, she’d be here. But they still didn’t have a house. She would go to Zhang Xiaoyu’s place tomorrow and look for a house again.
Back in her room, Mi Xia went into her space and found a pregnancy test. After testing, it showed two lines. She was really pregnant.
After a burst of excitement, she began to look up what to pay attention to during pregnancy and what to eat. She remembered seeing people in her past life start taking folic acid when they were trying to conceive.
She wondered if she could still take it now that she was pregnant. Mi Xia looked it up, and the result was that she could take it during the first three months of pregnancy.
It’s used to supplement pregnant women in the early stages of pregnancy, reducing the risk of neural tube defects in the fetus.
Mi Xia immediately found some folic acid and took it. After finishing, she started looking up what else to pay attention to.
No sexual intercourse in the first three months of pregnancy to avoid excessive stimulation that could cause miscarriage, premature birth, or placental abruption.
That was terrifying. To be safe, she wouldn’t have any until after the baby was born.
Avoid smoking, alcohol, and coffee, as they may affect the development of the fetus’s brain and nervous system.
She didn’t smoke, but she shouldn’t be exposed to secondhand smoke either. She would have to tell Wang Fen tomorrow to prevent Liu Baoguo from smoking in front of her.
Eat small, frequent meals, supplement nutrition reasonably, and eat more vitamin-rich foods. She would tell Wang Fen tomorrow.
In late pregnancy, pay attention to fetal movement and do appropriate physical exercise to prevent difficult labor. This was easy; in this era where bicycles were a luxury, it was easy to get more exercise.
And then there was morning sickness. So far, besides not being able to smell fish, she didn’t feel like vomiting.
That was about it. Mi Xia slept in her space that night.
Without further ado, the next morning, Wang Fen got up early and personally made Mi Xia breakfast.
“Mom, why did you get up so early?” Mi Xia was surprised.
“I couldn’t sleep, so I got up to make you breakfast. See if you like it,” Wang Fen explained.
Mi Xia took a look. There were seasonal fruits, egg custard, and a plate of small green vegetables.
Mi Xia: “Thank you for your hard work, Mom. Did you eat?”
“Not yet. I’ll wait for your dad to come down and eat together. You eat first, don’t wait for us.” Wang Fen urged.
“Okay, thank you, Mom.”
“Hmm, this…egg custard is so delicious! Mom, your cooking is so good.”
Wang Fen couldn’t stop smiling. “If you like it, Mom will make it for you often.”
“Thank you, Mom. It’s so delicious, I wouldn’t get tired of eating it every day.”
“You little rascal, are you buttering me up?” Wang Fen teased.
“Good morning, Mommy.” The little girl hopped to Mi Xia’s side.
Mi Xia: “Good morning, Wanwan. Are you hungry? Grandma made egg custard, do you want some?”
“Grandma, Wanwan wants some. Wanwan’s tummy is hungry.” The little girl blinked her big eyes.
“Okay, grandma will get it for you right away. Just wait a moment.”
The whole family happily finished breakfast.
At the hospital, the gynecologist wasn’t busy. In those days, women worked in the fields even when they were pregnant. They weren’t as pampered as in the past.
Many women went back to work after giving birth, and some even gave birth in the fields. People, both men and women, felt that having children was a very ordinary thing.
It’s not that they didn’t value it, but in the past, there were no entertainment activities, and it was normal for a family to have seven or eight children. This wasn’t uncommon.
Having many children naturally made it less of a big deal. Therefore, the gynecology department was the quietest.
This doctor was a good friend of Wang Fen’s, so she took Mi Xia straight there.
“Cuiliu, this is my daughter-in-law, Mi Xia,” Wang Fen introduced.
“Xia Xia, this is Aunt Sun.”
“Hello, Aunt Sun.” Mi Xia smiled sweetly, and Aunt Sun immediately liked Mi Xia.
