Chapter 18
Lin Yeci didn’t say a word, took off his long-sleeve jacket, tied it around Jiang Zhiyu’s waist, and used a tissue to wipe off her cold sweat before leaving the room.
The school nurse inserted a long needle into Jiang Zhiyu’s hand vein.
Jiang Zhiyu let out a “hiss” and painfully bit her lip, suddenly opening her eyes and staring at the nurse.
“A little pain is normal. Your fever is quite high, and the medicine is cooling you down,” the nurse calmly fiddled with the medicine bottle and hung it above the bed.
She propped herself up slightly and smiled faintly at the nurse, “Thank you for your trouble.”
“No trouble at all. I’ll be outside, call me if you need anything,” the nurse said as she stepped out, sat down, and began playing on her phone.
The medicine slowly dripped into her veins, and Jiang Zhiyu was no stranger to IV drips. In her past life, due to being weak and sickly, she spent most of her life in hospitals.
The smell of disinfectant was the most unbearable for her, but thankfully, this body was healthy and only had minor ailments. Suddenly, she noticed the school jacket tied around her waist.
Looking at the school badge, she smiled slightly. She really had to thank Lin Yeci.
She took off the badge and observed it closely. Even the badge looked so good; those almond-shaped eyes really showed deep affection for anyone.
The class bell rang, marking the end of the last lesson of the day. Jiang Zhiyu looked out the window, her stomach growling slightly.
Lin Yeci… he should be back soon…
Just as she thought this, the sound of footsteps approached, and the boy returned after a long while.
He was holding Jiang Zhiyu’s backpack in his left hand and two boxes of food in his right, looking out of breath.
So considerate—just when she felt hungry a second ago, now she could enjoy a delicious meal.
“I’m exhausted. How are you going to thank me?” Lin Yeci placed the boxes of food on the large table nearby and slumped weakly into a chair.
Jiang Zhiyu adjusted the IV drip and happily leaned toward the food, “Thank you, benefactor!”
With the IV needle in her left hand, it was still easy for Jiang Zhiyu to eat with her right hand. She dug into the box of food like a hungry wolf.
Lin Yeci was stunned by her eating habits…
“Didn’t they say food for the sick has no taste? Why do you look like it’s so delicious?”
Jiang Zhiyu stuffed her mouth full, cutely pouting as if trying to take over Lin Yeci’s box of food. “I used up too much energy today. Aren’t you hungry? Why aren’t you eating?”
Having seen through Jiang Zhiyu’s intentions, Lin Yeci hurriedly grabbed his own box of food and started eating, both of them competing for food in a humorous manner.
The nurse, hearing the noise, poked her head into the room and sighed with nostalgia. She remembered when she was young, she was also like this with the boy she liked.
Two bottles of medicine had already dripped into Jiang Zhiyu’s veins, and the sky gradually darkened. The full moon above illuminated the earth with a soft white glow.
The evening study session began, and the lights in the senior year classrooms across from the nurse’s office flickered on. Dedicated students were diligently working on their assigned homework.
The nurse, without hesitation, took on the responsibility of supervising the two students’ studies.
Jiang Zhiyu quietly sighed, thinking her homeroom teacher had no conscience. Even though she was sick, she wasn’t given any leniency to study at home.
But, in fact, it wasn’t entirely the homeroom teacher’s fault. Lin Yeci had kept a little secret—he didn’t tell Jiang Zhiyu that she could rest at home and didn’t need to attend the evening study session.
He nonchalantly pulled out a math test paper and started working on it.
Jiang Zhiyu, a struggling student, also took out a similar test paper and started copying Lin Yeci’s work.
Unlike Lin Yeci, Jiang Zhiyu was writing very quickly, not because she was good at it, but because she was randomly scribbling. If she did it properly and got everything right, the math teacher, that “old witch,” would accuse her of cheating again.
For the last big problem, Jiang Zhiyu wrote just the answer and put the paper back in her bag.
“Did you finish your math paper like that?” Lin Yeci glanced at Jiang Zhiyu, incredulously looking at his own paper, which still had only the first major question done.
Jiang Zhiyu nodded. “Yeah, what’s wrong? Do you want to copy it?”
—-
Lin Yeci nearly laughed out loud. “Copy? Are you serious?” Then, calmly, he added, “I just don’t want you to get away with it. I want you to get into a good university. If you don’t understand, you can ask me. Let’s do the paper seriously, okay?”
Jiang Zhiyu felt like she was receiving motherly love. This must be what it feels like to be a daughter getting scolded by her mom.
“Wait, if I learn it properly, the math teacher will accuse me of cheating.” Jiang Zhiyu looked at the paper, which was so easy for her, and sighed deeply, finding an excuse to avoid doing it.
Lin Yeci’s expression became more serious. “Actually, I also think what the math teacher said last time was unfair. Even if you’re bad at learning and might have cheated, she shouldn’t have said those harsh words. If it happens again, I’ll stand up for you. If she still acts that way, we can go to the principal!”
Jiang Zhiyu frowned unhappily, and from all the words Lin Yeci said, she only caught one thing. “You think I cheated?”
Lin Yeci shook his head, took her test paper, and said, “It’s just a suspicion. And right now, we’re discussing that you need to do your homework seriously. I still need 40 minutes to finish this test, but you only need 3 minutes. If you don’t understand, ask me. I’ll teach you seriously.”
“I’m not listening, I’m not listening.” Jiang Zhiyu covered her head and shook it, fully embracing her bad student nature. “I’m not learning, I’m not learning!”
While she acted this way, in her heart, the scene was different. She had glanced at the paper and realized that even though she was guessing, she had only gotten two questions wrong.
The nurse, who wasn’t an easy-going person, knocked loudly on the door. “What are you doing! It’s so noisy! You can discuss the problems, but not make noise! The boss will blame me!”
The two of them stopped talking, and Jiang Zhiyu started doing other homework.
Lin Yeci wore a helpless expression. He really just wanted Jiang Zhiyu to study properly, but now it had turned into such a situation, and it made his heart ache.
He continued working on his test, but when he got to the last big question, he hit a roadblock. He used sheet after sheet of scrap paper but still couldn’t figure out the solution. Gradually, he grew frustrated, rubbing his hair, feeling like he was going bald from the stress.
Jiang Zhiyu, doing her Chinese homework, was attracted by the confused expression on Lin Yeci’s face. She glanced at his paper and saw that everything except the last question was filled in.
Jiang Zhiyu took out some scrap paper, wrote down her thought process, and included the final answer, “The final answer is the square root of three.”
Lin Yeci looked at Jiang Zhiyu in confusion. He knew the answer was the square root of three but couldn’t figure out how to solve it.
Wait! Lin Yeci froze!
“This test paper doesn’t have an answer. How do you know the answer?”
