Chapter 20
Jiang Zhiyu angrily called Xu Leyun, cursing as she dialed.
“Your post was really good! If I weren’t the person involved, I would’ve believed it!”
The sound on the other end was chaotic, with the clicking of a mechanical keyboard. “Huh? What post? What are you talking about?”
Xu Leyun answered loudly, almost as if he feared Jiang Zhiyu couldn’t hear him.
“I said, the rookie I just fought was me! You really can’t play fair. After losing, you post a status to twist the facts!” Jiang Zhiyu was so exasperated that she nearly shouted. She stood up, completely furious. Xu Leyun was really infuriating!
Upon hearing this, Xu Leyun stammered, “Wh..what? The rookie who suddenly came back is you??”
“Tch.” Jiang Zhiyu calmed her emotions, sitting down, ready to hang up the phone.
Xu Leyun quickly thought of something and said, “Sister Yu, did you skip lunch today?”
“No,” Jiang Zhiyu paused at the mention of lunch, her stomach growling. She replied, “I haven’t eaten.”
“Come out and eat together, I’m waiting for you at Chenghua Avenue.”
“Isn’t it a weekday? Aren’t you in class?”
Xu Leyun didn’t answer; instead, he said, “Call me when you get here.”
Then, the sound of the call disconnecting echoed.
After changing into casual clothes, Jiang Zhiyu went out and bumped into her stepmother, who had just come back from grocery shopping. The stepmother looked at her hurried appearance and asked, “Where are you going, aren’t you eating at home?”
“I thought you weren’t home, so I arranged to meet a classmate. You go ahead and eat.”
She was a restless person, and if it weren’t for her health in the past life, she probably would’ve been tougher than anyone else.
And, she wasn’t going out to see Xu Leyun, but rather to properly teach him a lesson for distorting the truth.
Jiang Zhiyu received a message from Xu Leyun, which included a location tag for an internet cafe near the school…
She had never been to an internet cafe in two lifetimes, and today, she was setting that precedent.
When she arrived at the door of the internet cafe, she saw Xu Leyun waiting there, hesitant.
Xu Leyun wasn’t in his school uniform; he wore a blue denim jacket and loose pants, looking sunny, lazy, and a little rebellious.
“Sister Yu, you’re finally here! I’ve booked a luxury private room for us. Today, I’ll show you a game even better than King of Glory!”
—-
She came for lunch, not for gaming. Hearing about King of Glory made Jiang Zhiyu angry. She grabbed Xu Leyun’s ear tightly. “You’re quite bold with your insults, but now you dare to insult me!”
“Sorry, sorry.” Xu Leyun’s handsome face wore a pleading expression as he clasped his hands, looking wronged. “I’ve ordered a luxurious set meal for you in the private room. I just wanted you to play a game with me. Please!”
Xu Leyun knew that the girl in front of him could win a game with such a large economic gap because she was no stranger to hard work and had solid skills. Her “Sister Yu” was definitely a gaming genius!
Jiang Zhiyu initially thought Xu Leyun was unreliable, yet she still followed him into the internet cafe.
To her surprise, the environment inside was quite nice. The floor was clean and tidy, and rows of curved screen computers with high-end hosts gave it a somewhat luxurious feel.
The downside was that the gamers were all wearing school uniforms with disheveled hair, looking greasy.
“Maids’ service.” Jiang Zhiyu’s expression twisted as she read the sign next to a half-open door, where the words were written beneath a cartoon character.
Her face flushed slightly, and she was beyond helpless. She had a feeling Xu Leyun wasn’t reliable, and now she was in a place that felt like a pleasure house.
Xu Leyun, however, acted as if nothing were wrong. He casually said, “So, Sister Yu, how about maid service? Since you came out to accompany me even when you’re sick, I’ll call two maids for you to play with.”
“Do you have some kind of serious illness?” Jiang Zhiyu thought to herself that today, she had really walked into a den of tigers. Now, she was encountering maid service.
Xu Leyun grinned cruelly. “Did you misunderstand? Do you think maid service is what you’re thinking? It’s just a gaming companion service. You really have a dirty mind if you think otherwise.”
—-
Jiang Zhiyu seriously wanted to slap the back of this guy’s head. She was filled with helplessness and walked out of the place. “Then what could they do for me?”
Xu Leyun pushed her gently and coaxed her. “I was just worried you’d be bored at home, and besides, how could they compare to you, Sister Yu?”
His flattery had reached a point where it seemed ridiculous. Jiang Zhiyu’s reluctance seemed petty by comparison.
They entered what was supposed to be a “luxury” private room. Jiang Zhiyu sat down on a pink chair with pink headphones, the room filled with an electronic vibe.
Though it was called a private room, it wasn’t private at all, with transparent glass walls, so it didn’t smell like smoke but had a window.
The so-called luxury set meal was a beef box lunch, beautifully packaged with plenty of food, smelling delicious, likely freshly made.
“Wow, Xu Leyun, you found a partner who’s so unattractive and bad at games. Ha, ha, ha!” A guy sitting in the adjacent glass-walled room, dressed sloppily in a shirt and school pants, spoke, accompanied by a girl in a black-and-white maid outfit, looking seductive.
“This is my Sister Yu. Just kidding, try beating us first,” Xu Leyun said confidently, patting his chest.
Jiang Zhiyu paused eating and felt helpless. She had no idea what game they were playing, and looked around for help.
The players around seemed quite eager, some cheering for Xu Leyun and others for the guy on the opposite side.
“Go Xu Leyun! We’re rooting for you!”
“Tian Tian is the best maid in the game world, what’s this new girl worth?”
Jiang Zhiyu was panicking. She could study, but gaming? She had no clue.
“Sister Yu, the game we’re going to play is very similar to King of Glory on mobile. You play as the shooter, and I’ll assist you. I believe you can do it!” Xu Leyun whispered, sneaking her a manual for shooters.
Dizzy! She knew Xu Leyun didn’t have good intentions. Normally, girls would play support, but this guy directly asked her to play as the shooter!
The game started, and with cheers from the crowd, Jiang Zhiyu picked a female shooter with a big cannon and nervously entered the game.
First blood!
Double kill, triple kill, five kills. No need to think; it was all the opponents’ kills.
Just when they were about to lose the match, the sound of hurried footsteps and shouts from students outside could be heard.
“Everyone run!! The school staff and leadership are coming to catch the students skipping class!!”
