Chapter 21: Gold Medal Sparring Partner (3)
Ashura hurriedly looked up, and a blue-haired girl stepped up in front of him and stopped.
The most eye-catching thing about the girl was her long, straight legs, giving the impression that everything below her chest was legs.
Her face was cool and elegant, and a pair of fox-like eyes added a hint of allure.
Together with the high ponytail that gathered her blue hair, she made a vibrant picture of youthful energy.
When the girl noticed Ashura’s gaze moving up and down and lingering on her legs, her lovely fox eyes narrowed, yet she said nothing.
The moment she narrowed her eyes, Ashura’s innate danger sense kicked in, and he no longer dared stare at the girl’s legs.
Even with his backside Ashura could guess that, judging by that old rascal Instructor Enge’s style, this blue-haired girl was another heavy hitter, and he had no wish to be beaten for no reason again.
He immediately shouted, “I object, I’m going back to Magic class, find her another sparring partner, that big guy over there looks eager, why not switch him in?”
While speaking he pointed at a tall male student who was sneaking glances at the blue-haired girl and started to walk away, and the tall student instantly lowered his head in embarrassed shyness.
Instructor Enge paid him no attention and simply said in a flat voice, “Begin.”
The word had barely fallen when Ashura felt a gust behind his head; he quickly rolled forward to dodge the kick aimed at him from the rear.
As soon as the girl retracted her leg and landed lightly, she assumed an attacking stance and crooked a finger at Ashura.
That infuriated Ashura; what man could stand being beaten by girls every day?
He jumped up and yelled, “Since you force my hand, don’t blame me for being rude… watch my Wind God Kick! Hyah, take this kick!”
The blue-haired girl named Lan Yu heard his bluster and instantly gathered all her focus to deal with him carefully.
Yet, when she looked closely, the boy who had shouted the slogans had already bolted toward the edge of the training field.
Lan Yu’s pretty face turned even paler with anger; with a light snort she stretched her long legs and caught up with the black-haired brat after only a few strides.
Thus two figures were added to the drill ground, one fleeing and one chasing, chasing and striking all the while.
To be precise, one chased and beat while the other fled for his life; the girl’s speed was so great that Ashura wailed inwardly.
He could only rely on quick reflexes to block the girl’s whipping kicks, and there were even more footprints on his magic robe than yesterday.
At the other end of the field, the red-haired girl Magina looked around the ranks but did not see the black-haired boy who always wore a roguish grin.
On top of that, the substitute instructor’s body-conditioning lecture was dull, so she looked around out of boredom.
Suddenly she noticed two figures at the edge of the training ground engaged in a wild game of pursuit and exchange of blows, and at a glance she recognized the one running in front as the black-haired scoundrel she had just been looking for.
She also knew the one behind: Lan Yu of the Lan family; their two cities were not far apart, and the two of them were leading members of the younger generation who always matched up against each other.
How did that rotten boy end up fooling around with Lan Yu?
Wondering whether he was serving as Lan Yu’s sparring partner, Magina’s mood soured instantly.
It felt like her favorite toy had been snatched away by another child.
After another kick sent Ashura tumbling several times, he hit a big tree before stopping and had only just tried to get up to run again.
A pair of long legs performed a split, one foot pressing against his neck, the other braced on the ground, pinning the boy against the tree.
At that moment the bell for the end of the second period rang.
Ashura immediately gripped the foot at his neck, forced a bit of space, and shouted, “Class is over, stop fighting; if you hit me again it’s assaulting a fellow student, I’ll report you to the academy!”
The blue-haired girl Lan Yu was slightly out of breath; this guy was too crafty.
Although speed was her forte, she had needed almost full power to chase this slippery fellow who kept changing direction and ambushing her.
Still, chasing and sparring with him was really fun and suited the cultivation of her family’s art perfectly.
Only then did the girl notice that the rogue still had both hands gripping her foot; her face reddened and she tried to pull back, but Ashura held on too tightly and she failed.
Lan Yu’s lovely fox eyes narrowed again in shy annoyance.
Ashura instantly let go, slid down the tree, and sat on the ground, panting heavily.
Lan Yu looked at the footprints all over Ashura’s magic robe and almost laughed, but her maidenly reserve made her hold it in.
She then said coolly, “Sparring with you is really interesting; remember to come find me next time.”
With that she clasped her hands behind her back and bounded away, her blue high ponytail swishing.
Ashura bared his teeth at her retreating figure and thought, “Am I a masochist? Come find you next time? Says who? Just because your legs are long? I’ll transfer to another class next time; I refuse to believe Instructor Enge teaches every class.”
Leaning against the tree, Ashura was about to get up and dust off the footprints.
Yet another pair of long legs appeared before his eyes; Ashura numbly looked up to see Magina looming over him, sunlight filtering through the leaves and lighting up her fair face.
He swallowed and wondered what this crazy woman wanted.
Forcing what he thought was a brilliant smile, he had hardly opened his mouth to greet her when Magina suddenly asked coldly, “Getting beaten by her felt good, huh? Who told you to be her sparring partner?”
The abrupt question left Ashura stunned… what did that even mean, did she think he liked being abused?
Magina did not wait for his answer.
She bent down, stared into the boy’s eyes with overwhelming pressure, and said, “From now on you spar only with me; of course I’ll also look after you and won’t let anyone bully you in the academy.”
After speaking, she waited, but the boy still said nothing; following his fixed gaze downward, she lowered her head.
Because she was bent over, the bottomless ravine of her cleavage was displayed right in front of the boy.
Magina gave a low cry, hastily grabbed her collar and straightened up, about to draw her greatsword from her spatial ring.
Realizing disaster was coming, Ashura shouted at once, “Don’t get excited, big sis, we’re on the same side; I’m your cousin Arthur’s roommate, let’s talk this over!”
After hearing that, Magina snorted, “So you’re that loser Arthur’s roommate; perfect… if I can’t find you I’ll just come to your dorm; remember what I said, hmph.”
Having finished, Magina turned away with a tsundere flourish, leaving Ashura behind to wallow in self-pity.
Elsewhere Lan Yu bounced happily back to Warrior Class 7’s ranks; it had been ages since she enjoyed such a satisfying fight.
Suddenly she stopped dead with a soft cry, then began to tremble; the surrounding students noticed and immediately called Instructor Enge.
When Instructor Enge finally pushed through the crowd, Lan Yu raised her delicate face and said uncertainly, “Instructor Enge, I think… I just advanced to Martial Master Stage 2.”
The crowd gaped speechlessly, and Instructor Enge was the first to burst into hearty laughter.
The handsome middle-aged instructor said, “That Ashura is a real lucky star; yesterday Magina sparred with him and advanced to Martial Master Stage 2, and today you sparred with him and advanced to the same stage.”
“Is the kid some sort of heavenly treasure… beat him once and you level up? Hahaha, I’m dying here!”
Lan Yu could not help laughing too, yet when she heard Magina’s name she frowned slightly, realizing he had helped that woman advance yesterday.
“Hmph, next time I’ll tell him he can only be my sparring partner!” the girl thought to herself.
By then Ashura had already dragged his exhausted body back to Magic School Class 13.
With a thud he collapsed face-down on the silver-haired girl’s desk.
