Chapter 1
Jiu Sheng is a legend, representing an era of ballet.
From a young age, Jiu Sheng studied ballet, possessing extraordinary dancing talent. He was the first Chinese male ballet dancer to grace the cover of Time magazine. The notoriously stringent Time Weekly hailed him as the “Rose of the Era” and the “Sprite of the Stage.” It’s fair to say his achievements in ballet rival those of any female ballet dancer.
But now, the most celebrated male dancer in the ballet world was kneeling on the ground, his wrists dripping with blood.
This wasn’t his body—Jiu Sheng had transmigrated.
Soon, the memories of the original host flooded Jiu Sheng’s mind.
The original host was also named Jiu Sheng, a 13-year-old boy. Unlike him, however, this boy was born into a figure skating family, where parents, relatives, and friends were all involved in figure skating.
His father, Jiu Wen Sang, was a national-level figure skating coach who had trained many figure skating athletes and national-level competitors, earning great renown in the figure skating world.
His mother was a ballet dancer, skilled in choreography.
Apart from his parents, what caught Jiu Sheng’s attention most was the original host’s older brother—Jiu Li.
And this brother wasn’t just any brother—he was his fraternal twin.
Despite being fraternal twins, the two still looked strikingly alike.
Growing up together in a figure skating family, figure skating was destined to be a part of their lives from birth.
At the age of two, Jiu Li, the original host’s brother, first displayed astonishing figure skating talent. The moment he put on ice skates, he could glide effortlessly across the ice, leaving his coach father, Jiu Wen Sang, utterly stunned.
From then on, Jiu Li seemed unstoppable in the competitive world of figure skating, winning multiple championships.
In stark contrast to his brother, the original host was embarrassingly inept. He had little talent for figure skating. Despite years of practice, even now, taking a few steps on the ice in skates would send him tumbling multiple times.
Relatives and friends around him mocked him as useless, pointing fingers and whispering behind his back.
But in truth, the original host wasn’t truly talentless in figure skating. His jumps and glides weren’t any worse than others’. The problem was his phobia—he was utterly terrified of skating in front of others. The moment he was in a crowded place, he would feel suffocated.
Yet, despite his obvious struggles, neither his parents nor relatives ever noticed. Even when the original host haltingly tried to explain his condition, all he received was ridicule and indifference.
Worse still, they outright labeled him as worthless, mocking him mercilessly.
Jiu Sheng rubbed his temples.
On top of that, the original host didn’t fare well at school either.
He currently attended City B’s top-ranked middle school, the best in the city, where students were generally among the top 500 in academic performance.
But his family environment and phobia had shaped him into a timid and cowardly person. As a result, his grades were mediocre, and his admission to the school was solely due to his parents’ financial influence.
His brother, Jiu Li, on the other hand, had been specially admitted due to his outstanding figure skating skills.
As a young figure skater, Jiu Li had gained some fame throughout City B. The prestigious middle school, eager to capitalize on his reputation, had gone to great lengths to recruit him.
As Jiu Li’s younger brother, the original owner was merely an afterthought, treated by their parents as a prop to accompany the elder sibling.
But this only intensified the original owner’s suffering. Unlike Jiu Li, who shone brilliantly at school, the original owner—despite having similar looks and physique—was overshadowed in every way, reduced to nothing more than dirt beneath his brother’s feet.
Taking advantage of this, the students at school began to mock and bully him, even slashing his treasured ice skates.
Ice skates were expensive—decent pairs could cost thousands, even tens of thousands. Though the Jiu family was wealthy, the children received little pocket money. And unlike his brother Jiu Li, who was doted on by their parents, the original owner had to save for a long time just to afford a single pair.
Now, with them ruined, he had no choice but to consider buying new ones.
Unfortunately, before he could, he took his own life by slitting his wrists.
Jiu Sheng rubbed his temples, sorting through the original owner’s family background and current circumstances, then went to the hospital to have his wounds treated.
After leaving the hospital, he found himself wandering unconsciously to a store that sold ice skates.
In his past life, Jiu Sheng had been a ballet dancer. Figure skating also emphasized grace and beauty in movement, so many renowned skaters had sought his help with training. Because of this, he had some understanding of the sport.
Though he wasn’t yet sure whether to continue with ballet or try figure skating, Jiu Sheng thought it might be fun to buy a pair of skates and give it a go.
He browsed the store casually. The original owner hadn’t saved much, so after some deliberation, Jiu Sheng settled on a secondhand pair that fit well.
Afterward, he treated himself to a large bowl of beef noodles, topped with a fried egg.
Both ballet dancers and figure skaters had strict body requirements, and to maintain his slender frame, Jiu Sheng had deprived himself of good food for a long time.
The original owner had been the same—starving himself to stay light on the ice.
Finishing the hearty meal, Jiu Sheng wiped his lips in satisfaction, then carried his newly acquired skates, eager to break them in.
Jiu Sheng thrived on excitement. In his past life, he had devoted everything to ballet, but now, he felt the urge to try something different.
The thought of experiencing the thrill of gliding on ice—something he’d never done before—sent an unparalleled rush through his body, his eyes gleaming with a hint of wild excitement.
But just as he arrived at the training rink, he ran into three familiar faces.
Jiang Xu Guang spotted him and walked over, sneering, “Well, well, if it isn’t Jiu Sheng? What brings you here to practice figure skating?”
Jiang Xu Guang was both a relative and a classmate of Jiu Sheng’s, someone who had often mocked and bullied him at school.
At this, Jiu Sheng’s gaze turned slightly colder.
Jiang Xu Guang: “Why the silence?” Upon noticing the ice skates in Jiu Sheng’s arms, his tone grew even more mocking. “You’ve got quite the money to spare, huh? Already bought another pair of skates. What, still not giving up on figure skating? Do you really think you’re your genius brother Jiu Li? Take a good look at yourself—born at the same time, looking almost identical, yet worlds apart when it comes to skating.”
Jiang Xu Guang glanced at Jiu Sheng’s face. Unlike Jiu Li, Jiu Sheng had slightly longer hair, lending him a delicate, almost feminine air. He usually kept his head bowed, but this was the first time Jiang Xu Guang had seen his face fully.
Jiu Sheng’s face was strikingly similar to his brother’s—both breathtakingly beautiful. Jiang Xu Guang had always believed Jiu Li was the more attractive one, but now, face-to-face with Jiu Sheng, he realized Jiu Sheng possessed a mesmerizing allure that utterly eclipsed Jiu Li’s. It was a beauty like that of a bewitching geisha, stunning and overwhelming. Stranger still, today Jiu Sheng carried an inexplicable wildness about him—an untamed, destructive energy that could shatter anyone in its path.
Even if Jiu Li stood beside him, Jiang Xu Guang was certain this wildness would make Jiu Li pale in comparison.
Jiang Xu Guang shook his head.
Why was he having such absurd thoughts?
He sneered, “What a waste, for such a useless face to be yours.”
But instead of silence, he received a careless reply: “If that’s the case, why don’t you watch this ‘useless’ one take the ice?”
Jiang Xu Guang was momentarily stunned. “What?”
His companion nudged him. “Jiang, it’s Jiu Sheng talking.”
Only then did Jiang Xu Guang notice that Jiu Sheng had already laced up his skates, the blade guards removed. With a defiant sweep, Jiu Sheng pushed back the hair falling over his eyes. A few drops of sweat trailed down his chin as he cast a disdainful sidelong glance at Jiang Xu Guang. “If I’m truly so worthless, why not keep your eyes wide open and watch me skate?”
Jiang Xu Guang gaped. “What are you saying? Stop joking around. I already know how terrible you are at skating—why humiliate yourself?”
Jiu Sheng’s grin turned even wilder. “We’ll see about that.”
With that, Jiu Sheng stood up and took a few steps in his skates. The muscle memory of the original owner lingered in his body, and coupled with Jiu Sheng’s unyielding nature, he soon moved smoothly across the floor.
A fierce, eager light gleamed in Jiu Sheng’s eyes, piercing Jiang Xu Guang like a blade.
Jiu Sheng was a god in the world of dance—radiant on stage, but in reality, untamed and unrestrained. He had no time to waste on Jiang Xu Guang now.
Because—
He was about to take the ice.
