“Has it only been a day?”
Bai Rui rubbed his swollen forehead.
“Why do I feel like we’ve been apart for 24 years? I think I’m about to go crazy thinking about it!”
Bai Rui couldn’t stop regretting. If he had known, he wouldn’t have played the cat-and-mouse game of trying to entice him; he should have made the man choose a side right then and there. He should’ve just tied his lover to his side immediately. After finally meeting again, he should have made sure to hold on to his man first.
Bai Rui, feeling somewhat unsatisfied, thought to himself that not taking one of his lover’s personal items was his biggest mistake. Not being able to smell his man’s scent made Bai Rui feel off.
Lao Hei seemed to sense Bai Rui’s resentment. Although unwilling, he still helplessly reminded him:
“Kid, have you forgotten about me? You can monitor Mo Cheng through me. I can livestream his movements for you!”
Upon hearing Old Hei’s words, Bai Rui couldn’t help but cheer. When it came to his lover, Bai Rui never held back. He immediately asked Old Hei to pull up live footage of Mo Cheng. Even though he couldn’t have him, at least watching would somewhat satisfy his craving.
At this moment, it was still daytime in Country H, and Mo Cheng’s situation wasn’t much better than Bai Rui’s. He was completely engulfed in anxiety.
After Bai Rui let Mo Cheng go, he didn’t immediately confront Mo Xiaoyun. Instead, he instructed his subordinates to investigate. Since Mo Xiaoyun had managed to deceive him once, it was clear she could deceive him again. Mo Cheng preferred to investigate everything himself; that way, the truth would be more convincing.
Although Mo Cheng had retired from the special forces, he had already formed his own mercenary group which was on a certain scale, so investigating secret matters was no challenge for him.
Of course, Mo Xiaoyun was unaware of Mo Cheng’s true identity. She only thought he was still in the military in Country H, just a highly skilled soldier.
Staying alone in his room, Mo Cheng looked over the information his subordinates had gathered in less than half a day. He knew now that Bai Rui hadn’t deceived him.
Mo Xiaoyun had actually pursued Song Rui’an, and in a very public manner. Song Rui’an had repeatedly rejected her, so she ended up getting together with Song Rui’an’s younger brother, Song Yi. The two of them then joined forces multiple times to put Song Rui’an in dangerous situations, causing the downfall of the Song family. Their methods were ruthless, leaving no mercy.
Mo Cheng had no idea how the Song family had raised someone like Song Yi, a thankless ingrate. However, based on the investigation results, it seemed that Song Rui’an had some unusual feelings for Song Yi and indulged him quite a bit. This fact intrigued Mo Cheng.
He really wanted to capture that man who had kissed and teased him earlier and question him properly. But then he remembered what Song Rui’an had told him back then—that he wouldn’t be with the brother of his enemy. At this point, Mo Cheng didn’t even have the position to question him.
“Song Rui’an, Rui-an!”
Mo Cheng ran his fingers over the photo of Bai Rui on the document, murmuring to himself in a daze. All the truths had become clear. Over the years, Song Rui’an had not only guided the Song family to engage in legitimate business but had also been deeply involved in charity.
In Mo Cheng’s mind, the most innocent, the one who should never be hurt, was this person. But the key issue was, with Mo Xiaoyun’s past involvement, how could he make Song Rui’an trust him and willingly accept him?
“Don’t stop me, let me in!”
A crisp female voice came from outside the door. It was Mo Xiaoyun. Mo Cheng furrowed his brow, put down the document in his hand, and walked to the door. He opened it to let Mo Xiaoyun inside.
“Bro, who are all those people outside?”
Mo Xiaoyun asked with some curiosity as she looked at the subordinates standing outside Mo Cheng’s door.
“They’re my comrades,” Mo Cheng replied coldly, then turned and nodded to his subordinates outside.
“You can leave now. We’ll catch up another day.”
The subordinates, understanding the situation, left without a word, leaving only Mo Cheng and Mo Xiaoyun in the room.
“Bro, what about Song Rui’an? Is he dead yet?”
Mo Xiaoyun asked eagerly, forgetting to maintain the innocent and kind image she should have in front of her brother.
Mo Cheng looked at Mo Xiaoyun’s delicate face, his gaze turning complex as he stared at her. Suddenly, he felt that over the years, he might have never truly understood his sister.
After their parents passed away, Mo Cheng was left with only Mo Xiaoyun as family. He had always tried to provide a better life for her, but it seemed he had neglected her growth. The woman in front of him had deceived him for her own selfish desires, even attempting to harm an innocent person.
“Bro, why aren’t you saying anything?”
Mo Xiaoyun impatiently looked up and met Mo Cheng’s eyes, only to find him staring at her as if she were a stranger. A sense of panic rose in her heart, and she quickly softened her tone, looking at him with a face full of grievance.
“Bro, that’s not what I meant! I’m saying, he did such beastly things to me! Who knows if other girls will suffer the same fate? We can’t let someone like him roam free!”
Mo Cheng looked at Mo Xiaoyun, still lying to him without remorse, his expression growing colder. His tone was icy as he replied.
“You’re saying he forced you?”
Mo Xiaoyun quickly nodded.
“Yes, brother! Didn’t I tell you before?”
“When?”
Mo Cheng suddenly asked, causing Mo Xiaoyun to freeze for a moment. She looked at him, confused and a little disoriented.
“What do you mean, when?”
Mo Cheng clearly had lost patience with Mo Xiaoyun and slowly approached her.
“I’m asking you—when and where did he force you?”
At this moment, even Mo Xiaoyun, no matter how slow, could sense something was off with Mo Cheng. Her brother, who had always been accommodating to her, was now acting completely differently. She had never thought about how to cover up the lie properly.
The immense pressure made Mo Xiaoyun feel panicked, yet she still clenched her lips, refusing to admit anything. After a moment, she quickly put on a look of feigned tears, as if accusing Mo Cheng of pressuring her.
“Heh.”
Mo Cheng let out a cold laugh, covering his forehead, unable to stop shaking his head. How foolish had he been to believe such a flimsy lie? How had he unknowingly become Mo Xiaoyun’s accomplice, causing harm to Song Rui’an?
Moreover, no matter how bad Song Rui’an was, he was still the head of a family, while Mo Xiaoyun treated him as just an ordinary soldier. She had manipulated him into seeking so-called revenge for her, without any regard for his own safety.
No, for Song Rui’an, it might not just be harm. If only he hadn’t overestimated himself and gone alone, or if that bullet had just been slightly off…
A cold sweat broke out on Mo Cheng’s forehead as he couldn’t bear to imagine what it would have been like to see Song Rui’an as a lifeless body. Just thinking about it made Mo Cheng feel as if his heart was being torn apart, the pain so intense that it left him breathless.
He took a deep breath, shaking off the thoughts, and flung the stack of documents onto Mo Xiaoyun. She quickly scrambled to pick them up from the floor, her face growing paler as she looked through the papers.
When she looked up to meet Mo Cheng’s bloodshot eyes, an icy chill spread through her entire body. But then she remembered how her brother had always taken care of her, how, though blunt, he had always been gentle. Bolstered by this, Mo Xiaoyun gathered her courage and begged him.
“Brother! I don’t want to lie to you, but I really hate him! I loved him so much, but he kept rejecting and humiliating me! Brother, you’re my real brother; shouldn’t you help me?”
At this moment, Mo Cheng didn’t want to waste another word on Mo Xiaoyun. He looked down at her from above, realizing that this despicable woman was no longer worth his help.
Moreover, she was trying to harm the one person he treasured most. He lowered his head, his gaze cold and fixed on Mo Xiaoyun, speaking slowly and deliberately.
“Stop causing trouble for Song Rui’an, or don’t blame me for forgetting all past ties. Don’t call me brother anymore—I’m nothing but a tool you can use. From now on, you are no longer my sister. This time, I hurt him because of you. After this, I have no more connections with you.”
Mo Cheng finished speaking and left the room without looking back, leaving Mo Xiaoyun alone, slumped on the floor. She stared at the door in a daze, her mind lost, until Mo Cheng’s figure disappeared from sight.
“Why? Aren’t you supposed to help me? I’m your only sister!”
Mo Xiaoyun screamed desperately, but the empty house echoed with nothing but her own voice.
It seemed that Mo Cheng truly didn’t want to see Mo Xiaoyun again. That very evening, he moved out of the old house where he had been living with her. Even his belongings were packed up by his subordinates.
With red-rimmed eyes, Mo Xiaoyun gritted her teeth and glared at the strangers coming to take Mo Cheng’s personal belongings. However, their burly figures left her too intimidated to even speak a word of protest.
That same night, Mo Xiaoyun received a notification that Mo Cheng had transferred one million to her bank account. This was his final gesture of care toward her, and it marked the end of their relationship. From now on, they truly had no more ties to one another.
In her heart, Mo Xiaoyun felt hatred toward Mo Cheng for his coldness. Yet, she seemed to forget that it was she who had originally deceived and used him.
