Recognizing Kin Part 2
In just a few days, many people knew how good Old Master Ji was to Lin Chengshan.
Old Master Ji did not have deep feelings for Lin Chengshan, having not lived with him for long. His concern was for Lin Qingqing. He wanted her to live well.
Xiao Man couldn’t believe the drastic change in Lin Chengshan’s status. She now worried that Dong Weixin might want a divorce. She could not go back to Lin Chengshan, and given how her family had insulted him, he would never reconcile with them.
Lin Chengshan and Lin Qingqing would need to change their names to Ji. Lin Chengshan originally intended to keep his name, as he had used it for many years, but he reconsidered for his daughter’s sake. If his daughter’s surname were Ji, it might benefit her in school.
Some teachers are biased based on surnames, and having the surname Ji could bring many advantages.
In his previous life, Lin Chengshan had not returned to his hometown early or revealed he was not the biological son of the Lin family. Even if he had, his emotions would not have been so intense.
Xiao Man wondered whether she should meet Lin Chengshan, or rather, Ji Chengshan.
“Mom.” Xiao Man hesitated to go alone and looked at her mother.
Mother Xiao did not expect things to turn out this way. Should she say her daughter was lucky or unfortunate? Her daughter managed to marry the Ji family’s real son. However, she did not seize the opportunity and ended up divorcing him, with the family even using money to force the divorce.
“You all should stop thinking about it,” Father Xiao said. “She’s already remarried and has registered for marriage. Don’t think about trying to find him again and making everyone uncomfortable.”
“My daughter has already registered her marriage with Dong Weixin,” Mother Xiao said.
“You know they’ve registered. They are unlikely to divorce,” Father Xiao said. “Just don’t expect any help from the Ji family.”
“That child, yes, that child!” Mother Xiao thought of Lin Qingqing. “What’s her name?”
“Lin Qingqing,” Xiao Man said.
“Ji Qingqing,” Father Xiao said. “Now she’s Ji Qingqing.”
“……” Xiao Man pursed her lips.
“Stop thinking about going to find them,” Father Xiao said. “Do you think the Ji family is easy to deal with? We don’t even know how our daughter ended up marrying Lin Chengshan, let alone…”
Father Xiao looked at Xiao Man, who knew best how things had turned out.
Xiao Man felt guilty. She had always criticized the countryside and Lin Chengshan in front of her parents. In reality, Lin Chengshan had been very good to her and always tried to give her the best.
Old Lady Lin and Lin Chenghai went to find Ji Zenan again, but Ji Zenan had no intention of dealing with them.
“Get back to the countryside,” Ji Zenan shouted at the door without letting them in. “What, do you still want me to find jobs for your two sons? Dream on!”
Ji Zenan had no intention of changing his surname, he wanted to keep it. Even if he didn’t change his surname, it was of no consequence—many people already knew Ji Zenan was not a member of the Ji family.
“Zenan,” Old Lady Lin thought about how she had switched the children, which allowed her second son to live such a good life. How could her second son just ignore them now?
With the exposure of the truth, the Ji family would no longer send so many things to the Lin family.
“Lin Chengshan used to send money for our old age,” Old Lady Lin said.
“He is who he is, and I am who I am,” Ji Zenan replied. “You sent me away. Should I still treat you as my real mother? Stop dreaming! You sent me away, and you shouldn’t appear again!”
There are so many people in the world, and if the Ji family met Lin Chengshan, they would just think it was a coincidence and that Lin Chengshan only resembled Old Madam Ji’s brother.
Old Lady Lin was hurt and looked at Ji Zenan in disbelief.
“How can you speak to your mother like this?” Lin Chenghai asked.
“I am being quite polite,” Ji Zenan said. “Do you want to hear even harsher words?”
Lin Chenghai clenched his fists.
Somehow, Lin Chenghai and Ji Zenan got into a fight, and Ji Zenan called the police, who had Lin Chenghai detained. Ji Zenan said that Lin Chenghai had trespassed into a private residence, and even if he was not a member of the Ji family, he was still the son-in-law of the Liu family. The people of the Lin family were no match for Ji Zenan, and Lin Chenghai was frightened.
Old Lady Lin dared to be aggressive in front of Lin Chengshan because he had not caused her any real harm. But Ji Zenan was ruthless and would do anything to prevent the Lin family from affecting his life.
In the end, Old Lady Lin and Lin Chenghai had to return to their hometown in disgrace. When they returned, everyone in the hometown already knew about Old Lady Lin’s actions.
The Ji family did not report them, but others in the village did. The villagers were worried that Old Lady Lin’s actions would affect them, so they reported it. The village chief could not stop them from reporting, and he also called the police, who said that others had already reported it.
The Lin family was taken to the police station, detained for a while, and then released. After all, the Ji family did not pursue the matter, and the Lin family insisted that the children looked similar, which was why there had been a mistake. They also said that the Ji family could not tell the difference, so it was not entirely the Lin family’s fault.
The Lin family really had no shame. They even claimed they did not abandon Lin Chengshan and that they had raised him.
The Ji family chose not to pursue the matter, not because they did not want to, but because evil people eventually met their end. They let the Lin family continue to cause trouble for Ji Zenan. The Liu family wanted the Ji family to suppress the Lin family, but the Ji family did not.
The Lin family could no longer stay in the village and ran to Rongcheng City, hoping that Ji Zenan would support them.
Ji Zenan refused to help them, so Old Lady Lin went to his workplace to cause a scene. Old Lady Lin believed that everything was done for Ji Zenan’s sake and that he should be responsible for them.
The Liu family did not want to get involved with the Lin family and refused to arrange jobs for them. If they did that, it would be like opposing the Ji family.
“You came out of my womb!”
“If it weren’t for me, could you be working here?”
“Ji Zenan, you should be called Lin Zenan.”
…
There were already people in the unit who had issues with Ji Zenan, and they used this opportunity to try to get him suspended. This made Ji Zenan even angrier, but he had no way to address it except to go to his in-laws.
“They are your blood relatives,” Father Liu said. “You handle it yourself.”
The Liu family chose not to interfere, but Father Liu also said, “If things continue this way, don’t consider yourself my son-in-law anymore.”
Ji Zenan understood his father-in-law’s meaning and could only push the Lin family back to the countryside. The Lin family did not want to go back to the countryside. They insisted on staying in Rongcheng City and wanted Ji Zenan to give them money.
After learning about Old Lady Lin and others’ actions, Lin Chengshan sneered.
In his previous life, Old Lady Lin and others had not reached Rongcheng City so quickly but had to wait a few more years. At that time, the Lin family had indeed found more stable jobs. Lin Chengshan did not intend to make things difficult for them. He thought that since there was a blood relationship, he should not make things too hard for them.
“Do you like this little backpack?” Old Master Ji brought another gift for Lin Qingqing.
After Lin Chengshan acquired the store, he had it renovated and planned to sell hamburgers and other items. There were two shops, one sold hamburgers and the other sold cakes and other foods. Lin Chengshan could not run the shop himself, so he hired people and prepared special sauces—these sauces were crucial.
“I like it,” Lin Qingqing said. She had gained a bit of weight and was happy with the attention from her grandparents. She no longer clung to the stuffed doll her mother had given her.
Lin Chengshan secretly locked away the stuffed doll. He did not throw it away but kept it, thinking that his daughter might want it in the future. It was not about Lin Chengshan caring for Xiao Man but about preserving a part of the child’s past.
“Daddy,” Lin Qingqing ran to her father when he came back, very happy. “Look, my little backpack.”
“Yes, your little backpack,” Lin Chengshan said with a smile.
“In a couple of days, let’s have a meal with the relatives at home,” Old Master Ji said. “It’s a good chance for everyone to meet you.”
“I heard that Cousin Dong has already remarried. Will they come?” Lin Chengshan asked deliberately.
