The early autumn dusk was a bit chilly, with the cold wind rustling the fallen leaves, though the sound was quickly drowned out by the honking of passing cars.
At the entrance of a dim and cluttered alley, a small, thin figure was curled up in a corner, hugging her knees, watching the pedestrians and vehicles passing by.
The little girl was wearing a light pink dress that had clearly been washed many times. The fabric was stiff and faded, but it didn’t detract from her cuteness.
Curled up like a small glutinous rice ball, she sat at the street corner, soft and round, her black, grape-like eyes blinking occasionally, with her long, fluttering eyelashes trembling slightly.
“Don’t blink, Daddy is coming soon!” Yuanyuan forced her eyes wide open, sniffing the air filled with the aroma of bread. Her little tummy let out a series of pitiful growls.
She really wanted to eat some celestial fruits, some fish… so many things…
Wiping her mouth, Yuanyuan couldn’t help but think about her past life.
She originally lived in a fairyland as a little celestial cat. All the creatures in the fairyland were animals that had attained immortality, sometimes taking human form, but most of the time, they lived in their original forms.
Yuanyuan was the only pure white snowball cat in her family. A pat with her left paw would bring blessings to people, and a pat with her right paw would bring wealth.
Every day, her leopard cat mother would feed her celestial fruits, and after eating, she would lazily sunbathe on her black panther father’s and brothers’ bodies.
But then, her black panther father was suddenly struck by heavenly lightning and sent into the world of a book to undergo tribulation, becoming the villain of the story.
Yuanyuan overheard her mother saying that her father had lost his memories of the fairyland in the book world and was forced to follow the plot, making more enemies than she had meals. Every time he reached the story’s end, he would die, trapped in an infinite loop within the book.
If he couldn’t survive in the book world, he would never return to the fairyland.
Yuanyuan waited and waited, but she couldn’t sit still any longer. She decided to take matters into her own paws and go find her father!
After searching through countless book worlds, Yuanyuan finally caught a faint scent of her black panther father at this very street corner.
This is the place! It has to be here!
The street was busy with people and cars. Yuanyuan strained her eyes, her tiny fingers clenched into little fists, carefully scrutinizing everyone and every car that passed by.
As the sky darkened, the streetlights flickered on.
In the evening light, a black luxury car was stopped at the roadside by a red light. Through the half-lowered window, a face of unparalleled handsomeness was revealed.
Even just seeing the profile, one could sense a sharp, icy aura that warned others to keep their distance.
Yuanyuan’s eyes lit up as she suddenly sprang to her feet and, with a determined grunt, dashed toward the car.
Having squatted in the alley for so long, Yuanyuan’s legs were numb, and she hadn’t managed to steady herself when she reached the car. With a loud “thud,” she crashed right into the door.
Yu Jinxiao frowned, glancing at the car door, and asked the driver, “What was that noise?”
“A child!” The driver glanced in the rearview mirror, breaking into a cold sweat. “It looks like a kid ran into the car!”
“Is she dead?” Yu Jinxiao closed the file in his hand, frowning impatiently.
The driver quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and got out. He hurriedly crouched down beside the car, looking at the small, curled-up white bundle on the ground. “Little girl… are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?”
The white ball on the ground, looking like a squashed dumpling, wobbled as it got up, muttering, “Daddy… I found Daddy!”
The driver asked anxiously, “Where is your daddy? I can help you find him, okay?”
Yuanyuan glanced down at her now-dirty little dress, too preoccupied to dust it off. She pulled open the car door with one hand and cheerfully called out, “Daddy, I finally found you!”
The car door suddenly opened, and a small, fluffy ball of white called him Daddy…
Yu Jinxiao’s eyes were filled with a chilling coldness that made the driver’s legs go weak. “I’m sorry, Mr. Yu, I’ll take her away immediately.”
“I want to stay with Daddy!” Yuanyuan cried, her tiny, round hand grabbing onto Yu Jinxiao’s pant leg.
Her little paw, still dirty from the fall, left a small cat-like paw print on his trousers.
The driver gasped at the sight.
Everyone knew that Mr. Yu was a clean freak. To have someone grab his clothes with dirty hands—he might not even know how he’d die after this!
“Little girl!” the driver exclaimed, quickly picking up Yuanyuan.
But her small hand was still gripping Yu Jinxiao’s pant leg, and with a ripping sound, she tore a hole in his trousers.
It’s over, it’s really over.
The driver felt a cold chill run through his entire body, his heart pounding furiously. He glanced cautiously at Yu Jinxiao, whose gaze was as sharp as a knife, making the air around them go silent.
“Brat, who are you calling Daddy?”
