“Oh no.” Yu Yuanyuan bent down, frozen in place.
“Little, little girl, I’ll dry you off right away!” The waitress serving her panicked, a flood of thoughts rushing through her mind as she recalled the last time she had been fired.
It had been a similar situation, though not as bad as this. Last time, a mischievous child had knocked over some soap, soaking his pants.
Even though she had kindly cleaned and dried the clothes, she still received a harsh complaint. Only later did she realize she had wronged the wrong family—no ordinary people. She was immediately dismissed from the hotel, without a chance to explain herself.
Now, here she was again in almost the same situation, except worse this time. The fear of losing her job again filled her mind, making her dizzy with panic.
She couldn’t lose this job—not again!
Yu Yuanyuan didn’t understand why the waitress face had suddenly gone pale. She had spoken to her several times, but the woman didn’t respond. Instead, she stood still, staring blankly into the mirror, as if she’d seen something terrifying.
Yuanyuan turned to look as well, but there was nothing in the mirror besides the two of them.
Confused, the little girl calmly rinsed off her hands, turned off the faucet, and tried to wring out her skirt.
But her tiny hands weren’t strong enough. She huffed and puffed, squeezing with all her might, only to get a few drops of water out. The skirt remained damp and heavy.
“Miss, your hair is dirty too.” Having finished dealing with her own situation, Yuanyuan was now worried about the waitress.
Some droplets from the faucet had splashed onto the young woman’s hair, and Yuanyuan gently brushed away the droplets, even patting down the strands of hair.
The light tickling sensation on her scalp snapped the young woman out of her fear.
The sweet voice of the child seemed to soothe the fear that had gripped her heart.
The waitress blinked and found herself looking at the little girl’s adorable face, smiling up at her, her mouth covered in sauce.
Yuanyuan’s dark, round eyes were bigger than most, and when she focused on someone, it made their heart feel warm and soft.
“Th-thank you, little one,” the waitress stammered, feeling a sudden pang of guilt. How could a child be more polite than she was?
She found a clean disposable towel, wiped the sauce off Yuanyuan’s face, and then dried the damp skirt with care.
The whole process took almost twenty minutes.
When they finally emerged from the restroom, Yu Yuanyuan insisted on walking on her own. She bounced along, her skirt swaying with her movements like a little flower fairy waking up in the forest.
The waitress found herself smiling despite her earlier panic. Holding the hand of this sweet little girl made her feel lighter, as if the worries that had plagued her earlier didn’t matter so much anymore.
“Ow!” Yuanyuan, happily walking along, suddenly bumped into something hard and black at a corner.
Her cheerful voice was abruptly cut off. She clutched her head, her mind buzzing in confusion.
Slowly, she looked up and saw a stern, harsh face, one that seemed oddly familiar.
Ah, that’s right—it looked just like her dad’s serious face!
“Little girl—” the waitress gasped in shock, terrified that Yuanyuan had hurt herself.
Children from wealthy families were like precious gems—every scrape or bump could blow the situation out of proportion.
The man Yuanyuan had bumped into was an elderly gentleman, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit. His hair was white but neatly combed, and his suit looked expensive. His back was straight, and even in his old age, he radiated an aura of elegance.
He stood motionless, looking down at the little girl crouched by his feet, his gaze cold enough to send a chill through the room.
Yuanyuan rubbed her aching forehead, only to hear a deep, stern voice from above: “Don’t cry.”
