But both Yuanyuan and her brother wanted their Mommy to come back.
The little girl didn’t say this out loud. Instead, she sat on the carpet, her head drooping sadly.
From his seat on the sofa, Old Master Yu looked down at the small, round figure sitting there, like a little ball of snow curled up in the corner.
Round, soft, and tender, so cute that he couldn’t help but want to scoop her up and give her a comforting pat.
And that’s exactly what he did. His weathered hand gently patted her fluffy head without a word.
Comforting children wasn’t something he had much experience with, but patting her little head with a gentle touch didn’t seem too hard.
Yuanyuan froze for a moment, then she brightened up, clearly enjoying the attention. She leaned into his hand, her head nudging happily against his palm.
The more Old Master Yu patted her, the more he felt like he was playing with a little kitten.
And really, at this age, what was the difference between kids and kittens?
Kittens need care from older cats, and Yuanyuan’s desire for a mother was perfectly normal.
Originally, Housekeeper Yang thought the old man was just being kind, playing with Yuanyuan for a little while before leaving by lunchtime.
But when lunchtime came around, Aunt Chen asked him if he would be staying, and to everyone’s surprise, Old Master Yu decided to stay for lunch.
He even stuck around after lunch, taking a nap on the sofa with Yuanyuan. When they woke up, they ate some fruit together.
Yuanyuan struggled a bit with using a fork. No matter how hard she tried to stab the fruit, it kept slipping off and falling to the ground.
Every time a piece of fruit hit the floor, she would make the most pitiful face, as if she had just lost a million dollars.
Old Master Yu couldn’t stop laughing and eventually took over, feeding her himself.
He noticed that Yuanyuan wasn’t picky at all when it came to food, and he saw that as a great quality.
After spending the whole day with her, he had a simple conclusion about this little girl: easy to please, easy to care for, and adorable.
If father and son ever talked about it, they would quickly realize that they had come to the exact same conclusion.
That afternoon, when Yu Mingxi returned from school, he found Yuanyuan playing “Monopoly” with Old Master Yu.
It was a simple dice game that Yu Yingze had taught her. Yuanyuan couldn’t read the words on the board, but she had gotten really good at recognizing the dice.
“Oh no, I just lost 2 million,” Old Master Yu announced in an exaggerated tone, mimicking the way Yuanyuan would say it.
Yuanyuan looked at her remaining asset card and exclaimed, “I only have one card left!”
“That card’s worth 1 million, but you owe 2 million, so you’re still short by 1 million,” Old Master Yu explained.
Her big round eyes widened in shock. “What? Yuanyuan is bankrupt!”
Old Master Yu laughed heartily. “Look at you, learning how to go bankrupt—how impressive.”
Even though she was being praised, Yuanyuan didn’t seem happy. She had lost all her “money” and was now in debt! TAT
Yu Mingxi stood frozen, stunned by the scene. He silently observed for a while, unable to believe his eyes. It took him some time to realize that yes, the person sitting there was indeed his grandfather.
In his memory, he had only seen his grandfather a handful of times, and even then, his grandfather had never shown much emotion, always looking stern and intimidating. Naturally, children would feel scared around him.
“Back from school, Mingxi?” Old Master Yu was the first to notice his grandson, smiling warmly as he waved him over.
“Yes, yes!” Yuanyuan chirped, eagerly answering for her brother.
As she answered, she shuffled over to Yu Mingxi, clinging to him and immediately starting her usual routine of cuddling up for affection.
“Hey, I was asking your brother, not you,” Old Master Yu pretended to scold, his face turning stern again. His sudden shift in expression made Yu Mingxi’s heart skip a beat.
But Yuanyuan, completely oblivious to the change in tone, giggled and replied, “Big Brother is tired from school. Yuanyuan will answer for him since he’s too tired!”

Hey everyone! I hope you're enjoying what I'm translating.
