Seeing that Yuanyuan was about to cry, Gu Beiyan immediately panicked. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to! I just wanted to help you!”
The flustered little boy looked like a malfunctioning robot, with his arms and legs flailing awkwardly, trying to convince Yuanyuan that he meant no harm.
But…
Even he felt like his explanation sounded weak.
The loose thread on Yuanyuan’s bag swayed mockingly in the breeze, as if teasing Gu Beiyan for his failed attempt at saving face.
“It’s… it’s okay,” Yuanyuan sniffled, shaking her head while blinking away tears. “I know you didn’t mean to.”
“Really?” Gu Beiyan froze for a moment, suddenly feeling like the cute girl before him was glowing, like an angel.
He had never met anyone so forgiving, especially someone this adorable!
Her large black eyes sparkled like beautiful pearls, and her slightly curly hair was tied up in a playful ponytail that bounced on her shoulders. Her small, pale face still had traces of tears, making her look like a wounded little deer—so innocent and sweet.
“Mhm, it’s alright,” Yuanyuan reassured herself, trying not to dwell on her sadness. She didn’t want to spend her first day of school in tears.
Teacher Su breathed a sigh of relief. This little bundle of sweetness was so thoughtful, but it made her heart ache even more.
After her introduction, Yuanyuan left a strong impression on her classmates. Throughout the lesson, some students kept glancing her way—some with friendly eyes, others not so much.
As Yuanyuan sat, staring at the teacher on the podium, a sudden thought struck her. She missed playing the teacher’s role at home.
Wow, standing up there and teaching must be so fun!
Unfortunately, this wasn’t home, and nobody here would listen to her teach.
As these thoughts filled her mind, Yuanyuan’s heart began to ache. Her eyes welled up with tears as she started to miss her brothers, her dad, and even her grandpa. She missed the days when they were her “students.”
Oh wait—dad hadn’t been her student yet! Her spirits lifted as she plotted a new plan. She’d make dad her student one day, and they’d do… arts and crafts!
“Yuanyuan? Yuanyuan?” A voice seemed to be calling her name from afar.
Yuanyuan snapped back to reality, blinking as she slowly turned her head. Teacher Su was staring at her.
She looked around and realized that all her classmates were also staring.
Totally clueless as to what was happening, Yuanyuan froze, and the classroom fell into five long seconds of silence.
“Yuanyuan, the teacher is asking you a question,” Chu Qi whispered, leaning in to help. “Look at the board.”
Hearing Chu Qi’s reminder, Yuanyuan turned to the board and saw several numbers. She recognized all of them!
Recalling the lessons her brothers had taught her, Yuanyuan stood up quickly and proudly shouted, “It’s 1, 2, 3!”
Teacher Su’s lips twitched in an attempt to suppress her laughter. “Actually, the question was, which picture on the board shows the bunny?”
“Ah…” Yuanyuan’s proud tone came to an abrupt halt.
On the board, the number 1 had a picture of a fluffy white animal, so did number 2, and so did number 3!
Knowing only that bunnies were white, Yuanyuan froze.
Gu Beiyan coughed theatrically and whispered, “Pick 1.”
Chu Qi’s eyebrows twitched, and just as she was about to stop her, Yuan Yuan blurted out, “Pick 1!”
Oh no… It’s over!
