Yu Yuanyuan felt her world crumble in an instant. Wuwuwu, this is the worst.
“Daddy…” Her voice was pitiful, filled with a soft plea that could melt anyone’s heart.
Unfortunately, the person in the front passenger seat was as heartless as ever. “It’s no use. You have to go back.”
Yuanyuan had heard that tone before.
The last time was when she accidentally ate 10 fish and 5 immortal fruits. Daddy Black Panther had used the same harsh tone back then—no negotiations, cold and strict. No matter how much she begged, he didn’t give her another bite, saying he was afraid she’d overeat and explode.
If a little celestial cat died from overeating, it would be the biggest joke in the celestial realm.
Memories rushed back, and Yuanyuan let out a long sigh, like a little adult. Sitting back in her seat, she muttered, “So unfair… so unfair, meow… so unfair…”
“I’ll visit you at the orphanage… when I have time,” Yu Jinxiao suddenly felt a twinge of guilt and offered a weak reassurance.
Yuanyuan didn’t believe him at all. She glanced at him skeptically. “Daddy, how can you lie to a little kid?”
Yu Jinxiao: “…What did I lie about?”
“You barely have time to see my brothers, so how could you possibly come visit me?”
The car fell into an awkward silence.
Even Gao Zhou, who was driving, felt a bit conflicted inside.
Kids always say such honest things, exposing the lies and tricks adults often use.
Yu Jinxiao didn’t argue back. Maybe for the first time, he felt completely at a loss after being called out by a child.
The rest of the drive remained quiet, all the way until they arrived at the orphanage. The liveliness outside the car shifted the atmosphere inside.
When Gao Zhou saw what was happening at the orphanage entrance, he was equally confused.
What’s going on here???
There were several men and women standing at the entrance, eagerly watching their car, tugging at each other in excitement. Their faces were filled with anticipation, as if they were there to greet someone important.
“Is that Ms. Lin!” Yuanyuan suddenly perked up, leaning over the seat. “And Ms. Li… What are they doing?”
Children’s emotions change like the wind, and her sadness was soon replaced by curiosity.
As soon as the car stopped, Gao Zhou opened the back door and politely extended his hand. “Yuanyuan, time to get out.”
Yuanyuan stared at his large hand for a moment, then gave up resisting and softly placed her tiny hand around his finger. “Thank you, Uncle Gao Susu.”
“It really is Yuanyuan! Thank goodness!” A younger woman rushed over, scooping Yuanyuan into her arms and planting a kiss on her cheek. “I’m so glad you’re okay, so glad.”
“Did you buy everything I asked for?” Yu Jinxiao, standing by the car, issued commands with his arms crossed.
“Yes, yes, I did!” Gao Zhou quickly opened the trunk, revealing a carload of supplies—everything from toys to blankets, all neatly packed.
The teachers who had come to greet them were momentarily stunned. What was all this for?
“Not knowing what the teachers might need, I just bought a bit of everything,” Gao Zhou explained, handing out various gifts to the adults standing at the entrance. “A little something as a thank you for taking care of Yuanyuan in the future.”
Each teacher received a gift, and they were all pleasantly surprised.
After handing out the gifts, Gao Zhou pulled out more items from the car: clothes, blankets, milk powder, and toys—all high-end, brand new, with the price tags still attached.
“These are all for Yuanyuan.”
The orphanage staff hurried over to help with the supplies, thanking Yuanyuan repeatedly.
Meanwhile, Yuanyuan stood by the car, sneaking glances and silently plotting.
Ah, I’ll let it go this time. But next time, when I sneak out again… Daddy will definitely change his mind!
“Oh, right, Mr. Yu,” Ms. Li suddenly remembered something and hurried into the security booth, coming back with a carefully wrapped item.
With great ceremony, she presented a bright red banner, with four golden characters in the center:
“Anti-Trafficking Hero.”
Yu Jinxiao: “?”
