Yu Yuanyuan’s wobbly little figure suddenly stopped. She turned around, eyes wide in disbelief. She couldn’t fully grasp the meaning behind Yu Jinxiao’s words, even though his intention was clear.
“Daddy, are you saying you want Yuanyan to come home with you and stay together forever?” she asked, her small hands nervously twisting the hem of her shirt, her eyes filled with cautious hope.
She looked up at him like a little kitten waiting to be adopted, trying her best to suppress her excitement.
Yu Jinxiao didn’t respond directly to her. Instead, he turned to Teacher Zhang. “What procedures are required to adopt Yuanyuan?”
“Mr. Yu… you… you’re adopting her?” Teacher Zhang was just as shocked.
After all, it had only been an hour since he dropped her off this morning, and now he was already planning to adopt the little one.
Recovering from her initial surprise, Zhang hurriedly guided Yu Jinxiao through the necessary paperwork, with Gao Zhou also assisting in the process.
“Wow, Yuanyuan, you’re getting adopted! That’s amazing!” Ding Miao Miao cheered, hugging Yuanyuan and bouncing with excitement.
But Yuanyuan stood frozen in place, staring blankly at the doorway, bathed in the light from outside.
Could she really go home with her daddy?
Even though everything seemed to point in that direction, having been brought back once before, Yuanyuan couldn’t let herself get too excited too quickly.
“Daddy often lies,” Yuanyuan muttered under her breath, trying not to get her hopes up too much. “What if… what if he doesn’t come back this time…?”
She was only trying to remind herself to stay cautious, but as she spoke, her eyes began to redden, and her voice took on a slight sob.
She didn’t want to be left alone here. She wanted to go home! To be with her daddy and her brothers!
Ding Miao Miao quickly patted her head to comfort her, “Don’t worry, don’t worry. I think that grown-up looks really reliable.”
Reliable?
Yuanyuan thought about it carefully. From last night until now, Daddy had mostly been pretty reliable.
Except for the times when he was scary, with his stern expression and harsh words. But even then… he was still her most favorite daddy!
In the corner of the room, a group of kids who had bullied Yuanyuan earlier exchanged nervous glances. They couldn’t believe what had just happened.
That man clearly had a lot of money. If Yuanyuan really got adopted, she’d definitely have a good life, right?
She’d get to eat tasty snacks and cakes, have delicious meals, and wear warm, high-quality clothes.
The little troublemakers, who had just been up to no good, now found themselves speechless with envy.
Every child here dreamed of having a family, even if it wasn’t a wealthy one. At least they’d have a home… a simple, ordinary life. That kind of happiness was a rare treasure.
The adoption procedures didn’t take long. After Yu Jinxiao had personally completed the necessary steps, he headed back to the children’s dormitory.
The other kids, having lost interest in the excitement, returned to their games with lollipops in hand, leaving only Yuanyuan, Ding Miao Miao, and the small group of troublemakers in the room.
They hadn’t moved an inch since Yu Jinxiao left. Whether out of fear or simply forgetting to move, they remained frozen in their spots until he returned.
Yu Jinxiao strode into the room, heading straight for the trembling boys.
“Little brats…” His towering figure cast a shadow over them, and the weight of his presence was suffocating. “Do you think bullying innocent kids is fun? Does it make you feel powerful?”
The boys were too terrified to speak, huddling together like rabbits caught in the gaze of a tiger.
