For a brief moment, Yu Jinxiao felt like everyone around him had lost their minds.
Either they were about to cry, already crying, or had just finished crying.
Was he some kind of god of tears?
“Go,” Yu Jinxiao snapped impatiently, his face darkening as his voice took on an urgent tone.
Gao Zhou, recognizing the familiar authoritative Mr. Yu had returned, quickly took the card and sped out of the orphanage like he was drifting out the door.
This place was clearly run-down—Yu Jinxiao’s bathroom back home was a hundred times more luxurious. He had no interest in lingering here even a minute longer. Initially, he planned to finalize the paperwork and take Yu Yuanyuan away immediately.
But somehow, after all the unexpected events, he found himself still there, being dragged around by Yu Yuanyuan for a tour of the orphanage.
“Daddy, this is where Yuanyuan plays!”
“Daddy, this is where Yuanyuan exercises!”
“Daddy, this is where Yuanyuan eats!”
“Daddy, this is where Yuanyuan sleeps!”
After making a full round of the place, they returned to the room. The dirty blanket that had fallen earlier had been dusted off by a few of the boys and neatly laid back in place. The stolen snacks and toys were also returned to their proper spots.
Yu Jinxiao’s cold gaze swept across the room.
The peeling walls, the wooden window frames eroded by wind and rain, the doors full of holes, the rusty, creaky iron beds…
What kind of terrible conditions were these???
Coming from the affluent Yu family, Yu Jinxiao had lived at the top of the pyramid since birth. He had never encountered such a place, nor did he have any desire to understand it.
“Mr. Yu, I… uh… I’m back!” Gao Zhou’s voice sounded from the doorway, though it seemed strained.
And it wasn’t just his footsteps that were approaching—there were several others behind him.
They were all carrying large bags and packages, looking like they had just emptied out a warehouse.
Yu Jinxiao pinched the bridge of his nose, gritting his teeth, “I told you to buy some things, not to move house.”
Oh no!
Gao Zhou glanced weakly at the mountain of goods he had brought back.
It piled up on the floor like a small hill, and yes, maybe it was a bit… much.
But… hadn’t Mr. Yu’s unspoken message been exactly this? Did he misread it?
“Wow, wow, wow! What’s all this?” Yu Yuanyuan squealed with excitement as she rushed over to the towering pile, touching and inspecting the bags. “Is this all for Yuanyuan?”
“It’s for the other children here,” Gao Zhou explained, wiping the sweat from his brow. “Yuanyuan, you’ll have whatever you want in the future.”
Yu Yuanyuan nodded, half understanding, and joined the adults in unboxing the items, mimicking their actions as she helped sort everything.
Yu Jinxiao didn’t lift a finger—he had no interest in physical labor. However, he kept a close eye on Yu Yuanyuan.
The little rascal usually seemed slow-witted, but she picked things up quickly. She mimicked the adults’ movements perfectly, rolling around like a little ball, surprisingly being somewhat helpful.
Soon, the children playing outside heard there was food. They excitedly rushed over, forming a rowdy line.
Yu Yuanyuan joined in, holding a small tray of freshly baked warm bread.
“This is for you, this is for you, and this is for you!” The little girl carefully distributed the bread. As she spoke, her mouth began to water, and when no one was looking, she snatched a piece and quickly popped it into her mouth.
All the teachers were busy handing out unpackaged snacks and fruit, so no one noticed little Yu Yuanyuan, who was about as tall as the flower bushes around her.
But Yu Jinxiao noticed.
This little rascal was sneaking a piece for herself every five children, stuffing her cheeks full of incriminating bread, all while continuing her duties as if nothing was happening.
“Hey, I saw you. You’re sneaking bread,” Yu Jinxiao suddenly appeared behind her, his voice as quiet and eerie as a ghost, exposing her little scheme.
Yu Yuanyuan froze, her hand mid-air as she was about to grab another piece of bread. Startled, the bread rolled back onto the tray.

Hey everyone! I hope you're enjoying what I'm translating.
