The boy glanced at the little hand gripping his pants and widened his eyes in shock.
This little rascal is surprisingly clever—she’s using the “injured act”!
“Second Brother, Yuan… Yuan can’t get up. Something’s grabbing Yuan from the ground. Waaaah!” The little girl’s smiling face instantly turned into a pitiful cry.
Yu Yingze lifted her up by the underarms, noticing that his new pants had been snagged and torn.
What had “grabbed” her was nothing more than a small hole in the ground.
“You’re pretty good, huh? Using this trick to grab attention,” he said with mock admiration. “What a brilliant act, even I have to admit it’s impressive. Never thought you could be this smart.”
“Huh?” The little rascal looked left and right, completely confused about what these older kids were talking about.
“False alarm!” Yu Yingze quickly concluded. They had all overestimated this little fool.
There was no cunning trick here—it really was just an accidental fall that coincidentally worked out for her!
“Ah! Yuanyuan’s wrist is scraped!” Lin Yichen, a little boy with thick eyebrows, gasped dramatically. “Should we take her to the doctor?”
His shout made the other kids panic as well.
The joyful atmosphere of the game quickly turned into a moment of anxiety.
Little Yuanyuan, puzzled by all the fuss, looked down at her dirty clothes and pants. She extended her hands—
And started vigorously patting the dirt off, first the left hand, then the right.
She brushed off the dirt, removed some leaves and grass, and cleaned her arms and hands.
Before long, the little kitten-like Yuanyuan was clean and ready to go!
As for the minor scrape on her wrist…
Yu Yuanyuan rubbed it a bit with her fingers and smiled brightly. “It’s just a little scratch!”
Wow, what an unbeatable spirit of optimism.
Her calm and cheerful reaction stunned the group of boys, leaving them speechless.
“Yuanyuan, doesn’t it hurt?” asked Ge Yihang, his big, expressive eyes wide with surprise. “My cousin would cry for two hours if she bumped into a couch!”
His cousin was about the same age as Yuanyuan, around three, and as delicate as a little cotton doll.
Every time he saw her, her constant crying would give him a headache.
“Games are so much fun—why would I cry?” Yuanyuan cheerfully grabbed one brother’s hand with her left, and another’s with her right. “Second Brother won earlier. Let’s keep playing a new game, okay?”
“Sure! Yuanyuan, you’re amazing! You can smell each one of us out.”
Ge Yihang, the last one found, widened his eyes. “Really??”
Yu Yingze nodded frantically. “Really! Her sense of smell is even sharper than a dog’s!”
Amazed, the boys let Yuanyuan be the “seeker” again for another round of hide-and-seek.
Though she was a bit slower in walking, she caught every boy with precision.
To make things easier for her short legs, the rule was changed—if Yuan Yuan spotted them, they were out.
In the second round, all the boys lost miserably.
“We should probably head home for lunch. I have homework to do this afternoon, so I won’t be coming back out,” one of the boys said.
“Same here. I have piano lessons later,” added another.
After playing together happily all morning, the group of kids started heading home.
Usually, they would scatter after playtime, but today, as if by some unspoken agreement, they all followed Yu Yingze toward his house.
Just before reaching his door, the tall boy Tian Bin suddenly said, “Yuanyuan, if you call me ‘brother,’ next time I’ll bring you that nice-smelling milk bath gel.”
“Yuanyuan, call me ‘brother,’ and I’ll play games with you all day next time!”
“There’s a bakery that makes amazing Napoleon cake. If you call me ‘brother,’ I’ll buy you one next time.”
The four boys vied for her attention, not wanting to be left out. Just hearing the little rascal sweetly call them “brother” would make them the happiest in the world.
Seeing Yuanyuan about to give in to their tempting offers and call them one by one…
Yu Yingze suddenly felt annoyed. Before they could surround her, he pulled the little girl behind him and loudly declared, “She’s my sister!”
