Little Yuanyuan’s tiny hands were firmly held by Yu Jinxiao, and no matter how much she wiggled, she couldn’t escape. In the end, she was pressed down on the examination table.
Despair filled her little face as she pleaded, “Nurse Sister… you’ll be super gentle, right? Really, really gentle, right?”
“Yes, of course. I’ll be very careful and gentle,” the nurse responded kindly, going along with Yuanyuan’s pitiful plea.
Still sobbing softly, Yuanyuan widened her eyes, determined to watch the needle go in. The more scared she felt, the more she needed to supervise, fearing that the nurse might poke too hard and “deflate” her.
Just as the needle was about to pierce her skin, darkness suddenly covered her eyes.
In that split second, a sharp sting made her scream out loud.
Yu Jinxiao calmly removed his hand from covering her eyes and coldly pointed to her hand. “They haven’t even started yet. Why are you screaming?”
The needle had barely touched her skin before Yuanyuan began to wail. Realizing she had started her performance too soon, she stopped crying but remained trembling in Yu Jinxiao’s arms.
The nurse, trying not to laugh, couldn’t help but glance over at Yu Jinxiao.
The little girl called him “Daddy,” but as far as everyone knew, Yu Jinxiao only had two sons, and his daughter had passed away three years ago.
Could this be… a secret child?
Rumors always painted Yu Jinxiao as cold and emotionless, a workaholic who only found joy in making money and working. His personality had become even more severe after the tragic loss of his daughter, with his methods growing increasingly ruthless and unyielding.
At first, the nurse had been a little afraid of him, but seeing his subtle care for Yuanyuan—though masked by indifference—made her realize he wasn’t as terrifying as people said.
He was the kind of man who commanded attention—tall, handsome, and dressed in custom-tailored clothes that highlighted his natural elegance and nobility. Even in this seemingly ordinary moment, there was a gentle tenderness and undeniable appeal.
Although his face showed cold indifference and impatience, those large, well-defined hands handled the little girl with such care, carefully adjusting his grip to ensure he didn’t hurt her.
His gaze never left the small dumpling in his arms, watching her with focused attention.
“Don’t worry, I’ll count to three before the injection. It’ll be quick,” the nurse reassured as she held Yuanyuan’s tiny hand, helping the girl build up some courage.
Yu Jinxiao covered Yuanyuan’s eyes, but the little girl insisted on looking. If she couldn’t see, she wouldn’t feel secure—like the nurse might sneak in an extra jab if she wasn’t watching.
As her head wobbled back and forth, trying to see the needle, the nurse’s countdown reached “two.”
Splat.
A sharp pain shot through Yuanyuan’s finger, and just as she was about to whimper, her little hand was squeezed even tighter, intensifying the pain.
“Waaaah…” Yuanyuan’s piercing cry echoed through the room, the pitiful sound tugging at the nurse’s heartstrings.
“All done, all done. The check-up is over,” the nurse quickly said, pressing a cotton ball to the small wound on Yuanyuan’s finger.
But Yuanyuan had no interest in helping, too busy sobbing quietly on Yu Jinxiao’s shoulder, her tear-streaked face full of sorrow.
If it weren’t for her professional obligations, the nurse would’ve taken a picture of the scene right then and there.
A tall, handsome man holding a tearful little girl—it was the kind of scene that made anyone’s heart skip a beat.
“Daddy, Yuanyuan’s finger has a hole in it. Waaaah…” Yuanyuan said tearfully, holding up her finger for him to see.
Yu Jinxiao glanced at it nonchalantly. “It’ll heal by tomorrow.”
“No way! What if I leak air? Maybe I should… rest next Monday?”
So that was her plan all along—this little rascal was just trying to get out of going to school.
Yu Jinxiao chuckled coldly inside but managed a sly smile. “Tomorrow’s the weekend. How about I take you and your brothers out for some fun?”
“Yay! That sounds amazing!” Yuanyuan clapped her hands in excitement.
Yu Jinxiao’s gaze lowered to her happily clapping hands. “So, you’re not worried about leaking air when we’re out having fun, but going to school makes you scared you’ll leak?”
Yuanyuan froze.
Uh-oh…
