Chapter 10.2
Children were truly easy to please.
Sheng Zexi smiled slightly, continued with the payment, and then carried Nuo Nuo inside. After the staff secured her seatbelt and explained how to drive, her little car took off.
“Whoosh! Awesome!” Accompanied by the little girl’s joyous cheers, her hair flew wildly in the wind, and her long eyelashes fluttered like they were sparkling. It was much more appealing than when she had been crying.
Children usually play for about fifteen minutes, which allowed Sheng Zexi to get through quite a bit of work. He leaned against the red and black railing, scrolling through documents on his phone while occasionally glancing up.
After a while, another child entered the area, dashing behind Nuo Nuo. The other kids were sprinting around, while Nuo Nuo seemed to be lagging behind, prompting Sheng Zexi to chuckle softly to himself.
A little while later, Nuo Nuo finished her turn and got out of the car, but she looked slightly upset. She frowned and told her dad, “Daddy, my car was slower than that boy’s.”
Sheng Zexi thought it was simply because she was too young. Her hair was a bit messy, and he reached out to smooth it for her, reassuring her, “When you grow up, you’ll be able to drive faster.”
However, Nuo Nuo felt that the car was to blame. Hearing her father’s words, she became a bit agitated, insisting, “No, it’s not that I’m slow; it’s because that car is too slow!”
She seemed genuinely frustrated.
While Sheng Zexi didn’t care about her speed, seeing her upset made him want to comfort her. He picked her up and said, “If it’s too slow, we won’t play anymore.”
Nuo Nuo nodded, “Okay, let’s play something else.”
She immediately spotted the nearby ball pit and dashed over.
The ball pit also required payment, and without hesitation, Sheng Zexi paid for her. Nuo Nuo excitedly ran in and played for over two hours.
Initially, he thought she would only play for an hour, but the little one was thoroughly engaged. Lunchtime arrived, and Sheng Zexi needed to take her back for lunch since he had things to do in the afternoon.
When Nuo Nuo came back thirsty for water, Sheng Zexi told her, “It’s lunchtime; we need to head back for lunch.”
Nuo Nuo, of course, was reluctant. After gulping down water, she wiped her mouth and looked up at her dad with her clean little face, saying, “Daddy, you can just go back by yourself and leave me here. You can come pick me up tonight.”
Sheng Zexi: …
Since the little one hadn’t eaten lunch, he couldn’t possibly leave her there. If she started crying, it would create a scene, and she might even complain about him later. So, Sheng Zexi ended up waiting for over an hour, and only with the staff’s assistance was he finally able to take the little one home.
He had thought about taking her back to the company for lunch, but as soon as they reached the first floor, the little girl spotted various barbecues and snacks. Instantly tempted, she turned to her dad and said, “Daddy, I want to eat that.”
Lamb skewers.
Sheng Zexi himself didn’t eat much of that kind of food, so he certainly wasn’t going to let his child have it. He promptly refused, saying, “We’re going back to Daddy’s company to eat.”
Nuo Nuo pouted and insisted, “It’ll take a long time to get back, and I’m really hungry right now.”
Refusing to cooperate, she squatted down on the ground, her little face pouting in a way that was hard to resist.
Sheng Zexi firmly picked her up, but just as he was about to leave, her eyes suddenly turned red, and she started to sob, “I don’t want to eat at your company!”
Sheng Zexi already had a slight headache, and seeing her eyes welling up with tears, looking as if she had suffered a great injustice, made his head pound even more. This defiance made him regret bringing her out today; he definitely didn’t want her to think she could come to work with him in the future.
He stopped in his tracks, glanced at the colorful food stalls, and asked her, “That’s not suitable for little kids. Choose something else.”
