Chapter 29

Today, Nuo Nuo surprisingly didn’t cry at kindergarten. Pei Zhan’s face showed a hint of relief as he returned to his seat. However, he still felt a bit worried about whether Nuo Nuo would cry later, especially since it was her first day at school.

In the classroom, Nuo Nuo quickly spotted a familiar face—Ning Yichen. She hadn’t expected him to be in the same kindergarten. Excitedly, she waved at him and called out, “Ning Yichen!”

Her voice was loud and cheerful, drawing Ning Yichen’s attention, as well as that of the other children. Nuo Nuo’s new deskmate looked at her friendly interaction with Ning Yichen with a hint of complexity on her face and asked, “You actually play with Ning Yichen?”

Nuo Nuo didn’t notice the unusual tone in her voice and happily replied, “Of course! Ning Yichen is my good friend!”

“Good friend?” Song Yuxi tilted her head, still confused. How could this beautiful girl want to play with that annoying boy, Ning Yichen?

Ning Yichen had intended to approach Nuo Nuo to greet her, but when he saw her sitting next to the other girl, he hesitated and stopped in his tracks. He let his smile fade a bit but still wanted to respond to Nuo Nuo’s cheerful greeting because her smile was simply delightful. Plus, after what Nuo Nuo’s dad had said to his uncle that day, both his uncle and cousin had treated him much better.

“Good morning, Nuo Nuo,” Ning Yichen said with a smile. He gathered his courage and ran over, pulling out some snacks from his bag that his dad had sent him recently. He handed them to Nuo Nuo, saying, “These are for you.”

Ning Yichen’s dad often sent him treats, but every time his cousins would take most of them, leaving him unsure if Nuo Nuo would even like them. He felt both excited and anxious about her reaction.

Nuo Nuo was surprised by how many snacks Ning Yichen had given her. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she attempted to return most of them. “That’s too much, Ning Yichen! You don’t need to give me all of this.”

Ning Yichen shook his head. “No, these are for you. I have plenty left.”

After thinking for a moment, Nuo Nuo took out a piece of bread she had brought and offered it to Ning Yi Chen. “Then I’ll share some with you, so you won’t go hungry.”

Ning Yichen was taken aback by Nuo Nuo’s gesture of reciprocity, his eyes widening in surprise. After a moment, he smiled brightly. “Okay, Nuo Nuo!”

Nuo Nuo felt that Ning Yichen had given her too many snacks and wanted to check with him. “I can’t eat all of this myself. Can I share some with the other kids?”

Ning Yichen, surprised that Nuo Nuo would ask for his opinion, nodded eagerly, a radiant smile spreading across his face. “Of course!”

He said, “Once I give these to you, they’re yours. You can share them with anyone you want.”

“Okay, thank you!” Nuo Nuo replied.

Ning Yichen hadn’t expected to receive gratitude in return. Suddenly, he felt a bit guilty for his previous thoughts about Nuo Nuo. She was such a wonderful girl, and he realized he should trust her.

Looking down, Ning Yichen told Nuo Nuo, “I should be the one thanking you.”

He felt that Nuo Nuo was just too kind.

Ning Yichen soon returned to his seat, while Nuo Nuo began to think about how to distribute the snacks on her desk. After pondering, she took out a piece of her bread and paired it with the milk and beef jerky that Ning Yichen had given her, offering them to her deskmate.

Song Yuxi had never received anything from Ning Yichen before, and she had never seen such a generous child. She felt a bit dazed and thought Ning Yichen was different from what she had imagined.

Curiosity piqued, she wanted to ask Nuo Nuo about it, but just then, the teacher walked in. Song Yuxi decided to hold off her questions until after class. Once the bell rang, she approached Nuo Nuo and said, “Nuo Nuo, I feel like Ning Yichen is different from what I thought.”

Nuo Nuo was shocked. “You know Ning Yichen?”

Song Yuxi nodded, a bit embarrassed. “I do, but…”

She hesitated, feeling guilty because she hadn’t been nice to Ning Yichen in the past. So, when Nuo Nuo offered her snacks, she felt a bit uneasy about accepting them.

At that moment, Pei Zhen came to find Nuo Nuo. The tall, skinny boy asked her, “Nuo Nuo, the slide outside looks fun. Do you want to go play together?”

Nuo Nuo stood up. “Sure!”

She looked back and called to Ning Yichen, “Ning Yichen, do you want to come out and play?”

Some kids in the class were already familiar with each other, and Ning Yichen was also looking forward to making friends, but he was worried they wouldn’t like him. When he heard Nuo Nuo call him, his eyes lit up, and he jumped up, incredulously saying, “Can I join too?”

Nuo Nuo nodded. “Of course!”

And so, Ning Yichen followed Nuo Nuo outside.

The kindergarten playground had many fun facilities, like slides, obstacle walls, and swings, all looking very inviting.

Song Yuxi didn’t know what to do in the classroom, so when some familiar kids called her, she decided to join them outside. She saw Nuo Nuo on the swing, with Ning Yichen pushing her. The two looked so happy, and Pei Zhen was also playing with Ning Yichen.

They seemed to be having a great time together.

Song Yuxi suddenly thought that maybe Ning Yichen wasn’t so annoying after all. She felt a little tempted to join them.
